Figures from Myth and Legend

Fairies, elves and mystical figures inhabit the vivid imagination of Ingrid Dijkers, a very creative artist living in Plymouth, Michigan. Ingrid Dijkers, an American artist, was born in the Netherlands in a very artistic family. Having lived and traveled extensively in Europe, Great Britain and South America, her interest was stimulated by many old folk tales and classical works dealing with out of the ordinary stories of real or imaginary personalities.

Dijkers' work evolved and migrated from one art form to another. From painting, clothing design, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics into a perfect marriage combining all these techniques, producing the intriguing mystical marrionette-like figures she has been designing over the past years. It appears that she has definitely found her niche and has become well established in her unusual art form. Her creations attract a great deal of attention at various Galleries and art shows where her work is displayed.

Ingrid Dijkers' dolls have one thing in common: They are all one-of-a-kind creations of a very active imagination. Ingrid's impish figures inhabit a make-believe world , were anything is possible and which is not even remotely connected to our plastic nowadays environment. One can dream, can't one?

Ingrid Dijkers draws inspiration for her original hand crafted figures from a lifetime interest in medieval folk tales, myths and legends. Period clothing designs are incorporated in many of her creations.
It takes several months from concept to completion to create a new limited edition series. An original piece is sculpted in clay. A sectional mold of the original piece is made in order to provide a limited edition of these pieces at a modest price. After several weeks of drying, slip (liquid clay) is poured into the molds. The piece is removed from the mold and further refined, dried and fired in a high temperature kiln. Ingrid has chosen this labor intensive process to work with as it is a time tested stable medium, unlike many of the synthetics and plastics being used today.
The results are original handcrafted designs painstakingly hand painted and dressed in unusual and vintage fabricis and further embellished with period accessories.
