QUILTING TIPS
I have gathered some tips and trivia to help make your quilting more enjoyable! I hope that you will find them fun and useful.
1. Add the 3-D embellishments AFTER the quilt is finished so they won't get crushed by the hoop while quilting!
2. Clean the bobbin area often cause lint builds up quickly when machine quilting!
3. To keep the bobbin thread from tangling on the back when machine quilting, always bring the bobbin thread to the top of the quilt before beginning to sew!
4. For perfectly turned under applique edges, sew a facing onto the applique shape. Turn the shape right side out and get smooth edges every time!
5. If your freezer paper template won't seperate cleanly from the fabric, start with a dry iron on a medium setting. Press for a second or two then peel off!
6. Keep a card file on hand for those patterns you see in magazines! Write down the pattern name, the magazine, the issue and the page!
7. Be sure to name your quilt! Put the name of the quilt on the back lable along with your name and date!
"Shaking the Cat" meant that a cat was placed on a quilt and usually four girls would grasp the edges and shake the quilt. When the cat jumped off, the girl closest to the cat would marry next!
Quilters believe that if you sleep under a new quilt, your dreams will come true!
Quilters believe that if a thread broke while quilting, it would bring bad luck!
During the 18th century, very few quilts were entirely peiced. If there was no applique in the center of the quilt, it was added to border.
