
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Simpson’s death, the Sorrel quartet will give 3 performances of Simpson’s 7th Quartet in 2007, and the Royal Northern College of Music’s Festival of Brass (Manchester, 27-28th January 2007) will include three of Simpson’s Brass Band pieces. The brass band performances will be recorded and broadcast later (during the week of 5th February), in conjunction with BBC Radio Three's broadcast of the complete symphonies on Afternoon Performance (29th January-9th February). Also in January, the Montpellier String Trio will perform Simpson’s String Trio in Bromsgrove on January 6th, and the Matangi Quartet will play Simpson’s 3rd Quartet in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands on March 18th. The radio station of Harvard University ,WHRB (95.3 FM and streaming on the Internet at www.whrb.org), will be broadcasting a two-day tribute to Robert Simpson to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his death, including all the recorded pieces in chronological order. In 2006, two recordings of Simpson’s 3rd Symphony were released. Also in 2006, Hyperion records re-released their pioneering series of complete Simpson Symphonies as a boxed set. The Hyperion recording of the 11th Symphony and Variations on a theme by Carl Nielsen was released in August 2004, see Forthcoming and Recent Releases.
