Eduardo Rivera, Roland Jackson, Kylie Griffin, and Garrett Miller were all working on Halloween decorations for the firehouse. It was coming along nicely. Garrett seemed to have a knack for carving pumpkins and Eduardo knew of a place that sold cool and exotic decorations for holidays.
Kylie and Roland worked together hanging some of the decorations, and Eduardo helped from time to time.
Garrett had just finished carving a pumpkin portrait of himself from the biggest pumpkin. He had pumpkin portraits of all the other GBs sitting behind him, including Janine and Egon.
"My, my, this sure is a handsome pumpkin," Garrett said to himself, as he admired his work.
"Funny, I thought THIS was the handsome one," Eduardo said, as he picked up the pumpkin of himself.
"He's got you there, Garrett...boy, does he EVER," Kylie said with a smirk, and a dreamy glimmer in her eye.
"Uh huh, whatever Kylie," Garrett said as he wheeled to the elevator.
"This is going to look really great," Roland said while admiring the parts of the firehouse that had been completed.
Date: Sunday, October 31, 1999
Time: 9:38 PM EST
It was All Hallows Eve and in the firehouse, the ground floor was bustling with activity. Janine had invited guests, from the neighborhood, to a party. The firehouse was very well decorated for the occasion with six pumpkins, that Garrett carved, glowing on the floor. There were many candles to provide ambient light, fake cobwebs, small stone carvings, and other dark-looking decorations.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the basement, matters weren't so great. A small crack had developed in the containment unit. It wasn't large enough to set off any alarms or let ghosts through, but one ghost was just strong enough to break free. At first, only his hand was able to fit through, but slowly and quietly he managed to emerge from the abyss. Then he let out a quick, maniacal laugh, wrapped his cape around himself and disappeared.
Time: 9:41 PM EST
Egon, took some time to himself, away from the crowd of people, to spend quietly in his lab thinking about the one thing that was always on his mind: Janine. He had never met a woman quite like her, full of never-ending energy, a lot of which went to flirting with him. He didn't know how to respond to these constant advances, however. He DID love her, but he wouldn't let himself accept it, it was too illogical, and thus was a mystery to him.
Suddenly one of the larger computers in his lab, that he used for monitoring psychokinetic energy in other parts of the country, sprang to life. Startled, Egon quickly went to see what had caused it to activate like that. Then he saw what the problem was, he was picking up a very faint signal, one that he had hoped he would never see again. A ghost so unrelentless that he had managed to escape the containment unit twice before. A ghost that had haunted Egon since it had first appeared, for what he took from him, as well as the rest of the original Ghostbusters. The most evil and powerful ghost he had encountered since Gozer... Samhain.
"No! Not again, not now!" Egon whispered to himself, as past memories of pain came flooding back. "I won't let him do it again, he won't take these young Ghostbusters," he said as he clenched his fist "and I will do whatever it takes to stop him."
Time: 9:43 PM EST
"Ghostbusters!"
Eduardo, Kylie, Roland, and Garrett all looked up at Egon, who had a look of fear on his face.
"What's wrong, Egon?" Kylie asked with concern.
Egon then walked over to the stereo and pulled the plug. "Sorry, party's over. Ghostbuster emergency."
With somewhat annoyed, yet understanding groans, the guests slowly walked out the door. Janine, noticing the somewhat pale look on Egon's face, quickly rushed to his side.
"Egon? What's wrong?" she asked.
"We have a code red, a specter has escaped from the containment unit, but not just any specter."
"Who, Egon?" asked Roland.
"One of the most powerful demons the original team ever had to contended with, Samhain."
"SAMHAIN?!" they all replied.
"Yes, and we MUST stop him, there is no telling what plans he has for destroying humanity this time."
"Samhain...why does that name sound familiar?" Eduardo asked, half to himself.
"Wait, now I remember. When I was ten, there was this kid...his name was Donald. One day he just disappeared and no one ever found out what happened to him. I heard rumors from some other kids that he was killed by a big pumpkin, or something, but I didn't believe a word of it."
"Actually it's true. Him along with his two friends, Jason and Catherine, were killed by Samhain. They were the Junior Ghostbusters. They got involved, because they wanted to help, but they got too close and he killed them. It's my fault. I should have stayed with them, I should have protected them."
"Egon, you can't blame yourself. You had to defend the city from Samhain. You saved millions of innocent lives, you just can't protect everyone." Janine said, in an attempt to comfort him.
"Yeah, Egon. You can't be everywhere at once. It's not your fault," added Kylie.
"I can't change the past, but I can preserve the future. I won't let him take anyone from me again.
"So let's find this ghoulie, and KICK IT'S BUTT!" Garrett stated with a tone of determination.
"No. I won't have you dealing with a demon with the strength of Samhain without all the knowledge you could need to defeat him. I'm coming with you."
"And so am I."
Everyone turned to look at Janine. She had a look of pure determination on her face.
"No, Janine. It's far, far too dangerous."
"I'm a grown woman, Egon. I can take care of myself."
"Janine, I can't risk him..." his voice softened, "...taking you."
Janine was slightly taken aback by this. She knew he felt something for her, but due to the fact that Egon hid his emotions well, she could never tell exactly what it was he felt.
"I'll be careful, I promise."
"Very well, but I want you to be armed with a proton pack."
"Now, tell us about Samhain," said Kylie.
"The original team and I first encountered Samhain on a Halloween in the late eighties. He was said to be the demon that no man could defeat," Egon smiled at the memory. "Ray was overjoyed to hear this, he loved a challenge."
"How did you defeat him, Egon?" asked Kylie.
"While the guys distracted him, I taunted one of his minions in a mini-car to pull some large spotlights beneath the building where Samhain was standing. I hooked up my proton pack to the lights and with a little adjusting I managed to shine the lights right on Samhain. Light is his one weakness, it temporarily blinds him. Distracted and blinded, the guys and I were able to zap and trap him."
"But, how did he escape from the containment unit?" inquired Roland.
"He's managed to escape three times now."
"How could he possibly escape? I thought those ghosties were locked up tighter than canned sardines in there." Garrett stated.
"He didn't escape, he was released."
"By whom?" Kylie asked.
"Two of his minions. We never could identify them. However, the first time he escaped, in the early nineties, we managed to capture those ghosts after trapping Samhain. The second time he escaped, was when...he...killed the Junior Ghostbusters" he clenched his fist, "not again. Not EVER."
"Well, if the old blasters could take on Samhain, I'm sure these blasters will make short work of him," stated Eduardo.
"Don't get overconfident. Samhain is a VERY powerful and dangerous demon, one never to be underestimated."
"Wait, where IS Samhain hanging out anyway?" asked Garrett.
"The computer in my lab indicated that he is hiding deep within the subway tunnels underneath Manhattan. He's waiting for us to challenge him, to go there ourselves and confront him. He must be too weak for a direct assault, and is simply setting an elaborate trap for us."
"But we'll be ready for him." said Kylie
"Exactly," replied Egon.
With that they all suited up, ready for a battle that would prove to be one of the greatest in their lives. Janine suited up in the uniform she wore occasionally when she was forced to save the rest of the team, and strapped a full size proton pack on her back. Egon strapped on a slightly modified proton pack, with large spot lights on the sides. Kylie belted her small proton pack and gun and put a trap on her back. Finally Eduardo, Roland, and Garrett all strapped on their packs. The team of six was ready to face All Hallows Eternity incarnate.
Time: 10:26 PM EST
Egon was leading the team through the subway tunnels. They each had hard-hats with flashlights attached for light, as well as numerous handheld flashlights. Janine was by his side at all times, eyes peeled, and ready to pull her holstered proton gun at the slightest disturbance. Garrett and Kylie followed close behind, and Roland and Eduardo took up the rear. The tunnels had been long since abandoned. The perfect battleground for Samhain, plenty of places to stage an ambush (although that is a highly unlikely tactic for Samhain to use), and completely safe from light from the outside world. Egon stood with his PKE meter in hand watching it carefully.
"Why do these old subway tunnels look familiar?" asked Kylie.
"These old subway tunnels all look the same," answered Roland.
"We're getting closer... Samhain should be within a 20 yard radius," stated Egon.
"Wrong, Ghostbusters." said a peculiar accent.
"SAMHAIN!" Egon shouted.
"That is correct, Egon Spengler. Now you shall pay for locking me away all that time. And so shall these young Ghostbusters," Samhain said with a maniacal laugh.
"NOOOOOOO!" Egon screamed. He drew his proton gun and fired, however Samhain was able to dodge the stream.
"Foolish mortal. Now you shall pay."
With that, Samhain emitted a powerful stream of energy from his long, thin, pointy fingers, causing the ceiling to cave in on the unsuspecting Ghostbusters. They tried to run, but to no avail. They were trapped.
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I have finally put an end to those Ghostbusters' meddlings. Now, to continue with my plan, and call upon my new children to destroy this world. Making ME it's ruler. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!"
He then flew deeper into the subway towards his new potential army. All he had to do, was go in and get them.
Time: 11:17 PM EST
Janine was the first to awaken from unconsciousness. By a great stroke of luck, the entire cavern had not caved in. Janine looked around, quickly assessing the situation, then she went to Egon's side to make sure he was OK. He was bruised and unconscious, but fine. The others were the same. She looked on both sides of her, their escape routes had caved in, they were buried alive.
"Egon! Egon!" Janine pleaded with Egon to wake up.
Egon's eyelids twitched at the sound of her voice, then blinked, and he began to awake.
"Janine?" Egon called out.
"I'm here Egon." Janine said, as she cradled his head in her lap.
Suddenly Egon snapped into full consciousness and found Janine staring deeply into his eyes. He then quickly sat up, and looked around.
"SAMHAIN!"
"Shhhhh, he's gone. But we do have other problems, we're trapped."
Egon looked around and suddenly realized his situation.
"This is very bad," were the only words he could speak.
Slowly, Kylie began to regain consciousness, holding her head and shaking it a bit, she blinked and looked around.
"Eduardo? Egon? Janine?" she called out in the near darkness.
Janine fumbled for her flashlight that she dropped when going to Egon's aid. Finding it, she turned it back on and replied "We're OK, but the others are still unconscious."
Even though she knew that they were OK, she quickly checked the rest of her fellow Ghostbusters, starting with Eduardo. After she was absolutely positive that he was all right, she checked the others. They were also unharmed. She stood up and began to look around at her surroundings. Running her own flashlight's light against the newfound walls of their prison she quickly realized there was no way out. It was then that she noticed a strange marking on the wall and she moved closer to it for a better look.
"I KNEW these subway tunnels seemed familiar."
"What did you find?" Asked, the now fully-conscious, Egon.
"These markings, they were the same markings we found near Achira's imprisonment. But, what would Samhain want here?"
"The trans-dimensional breach!" replied Egon. "Of course! He plans to release all of the ghosts from the trans-dimensional breach that the subway workers dug up."
"We have to stop him," stated, the now conscious, Roland. "An army that size could destroy the city in a matter of hours."
Just then, Garrett and Eduardo began to regain consciousness.
"Uhhhh, what happened?" asked a dazed Eduardo.
"Samhain collapsed the tunnel in on us and we're trapped," replied Janine.
"Awww, man. This is not my night."
As Garrett cleared the cobwebs in his skull, he began to look for his wheelchair that had strayed only a few feet from him. Grabbing it, he pulled himself back into his chair.
"So, how are we going to get out of here?" asked Eduardo.
"Simple, Eddie. We blast out." Garrett said as he drew his proton gun and powered it up.
"No, GARRETT! Egon yelled as he got up to stop him, "The blast will cause the entire tunnel to cave in!"
"Then how are we going to get out of here?" Roland asked.
"We can use the proton packs to generate a frequency equal to the resonant frequency of the rocks thus shattering them, while causing very little of the surrounding tunnel to be effected," stated Egon.
"Then, let's do it!" stated Garrett, enthusiastically.
With a nod Egon got to work on his proton pack, with a small tool kit that the always carries in his pocket.
"All I have to do is tune the frequency of the proton pack, which usually emits energy in the microwave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, down to the audio part of the spectrum," stated Egon.
Taking a large flat-blade screwdriver, he turned the largest potentiometer counterclockwise thus decreasing the frequency of the energy released from the thrower. When he knew he had turned the potentiometer enough to reduce the frequency to the audio portion of the spectrum, he placed the opening of the thrower into a large crack in the pile of stones and pulled the trigger. An ear-piercing screaming frequency of about 18KHz was emitted from the thrower, causing the team to cover their ears in pain, however it was having no effect on the rocks. Egon quickly compensated by increasing the frequency to around 19.936KHz, at which, the chamber began to rumble slightly. Quickly backing away from the wall he yelled to the others "TAKE COVER!"
The wall shattered into hundreds of thousands of tiny pebbles, leaving a hole big enough for them to escape through. Egon quickly ran to his proton pack to deactivate it before they all went deaf. The rest of the team all took their hands off their ears and let out a sigh of relief.
After readjusting his proton pack back to microwave frequencies he said, "Now, I will stop Samhain once and for all!"
"You heard the man, let's go team!" said Garrett, as he wheeled after Egon.
"I've never seen Egon like this, he has me worried." Janine whispered to herself, but she continued on by his side.
Then the team continued through the hole further down the tunnel toward the point where Achira used to be imprisoned.
Time: 11:30 PM EST
"Egon, are you OK?" Janine asked.
"I'm fine, Janine"
"I've never seen you so preoccupied...obsessed even, with busting a ghost."
"This isn't just any ghost, this is the most powerful demon in Tobin's Spirit Guide, and one of the more dangerous. He CANNOT be allowed to destroy even a single inch of sidewalk," His voiced trailed off to a whisper, "nor take a single life from me again."
"Egon, let it go. It wasn't your fault."
"I can't let it go, I can't...not now..."
Janine sighed. "OK, but sooner or later you're going to have to deal with this," She placed her hand on his arm, "and I'm here for you."
Egon looked into her eyes, he knew she really loved him, and he could see the love and compassion in her eyes. He smiled at her and said, "I know, Janine."
Suddenly, Egon's PKE meter started to go crazy.
"I'm getting some heavy readings straight ahead. We're close. Very close."
The sound of six proton packs powering up was the only reply.
Then, they encountered the enemy. Samhain surrounded by thousands of ghosts... with hundreds more coming out of the wide-open trans-dimensional portal. It was Samhain's personal connection to the spirit world, drafting all of it's occupants into his army of darkness.
Egon, being a little more cautious than last time pressed a button on his thrower that caused the large spotlights on his pack to extend outward. Pointing his meter at the portal and adjusting some dials, he got a quick analysis of the portal and decided on a course of action.
"Kylie, set your proton gun to 86.385GHz, and shoot the portal. That should cause the portal to collapse upon itself, and if we're lucky, it will pull back all the ghost back into the portal. But be careful, the proton packs were not designed to operate at frequencies above 40GHz, and I calculate that if you don't shut down within 14 seconds of pulling the trigger, it will explode with the force of a 5 Kiloton bomb."
"That's enough to destroy a large chunk of the city!" Kylie exclaimed.
"I know, so exercise extreme caution," Egon replied.
"The rest of you, focus your efforts on Samhain, full stream. I won't let him get away this time. On three..."
"THREE!"
Kylie blasted at the portal, and as Egon calculated, it began to close. Meanwhile the other five Ghostbusters focused their efforts on Samhain. With Egon's spotlights blinding him, they were able to easily capture him in the streams. However, the ghosts were not being pulled back into the portal.
"My children! Seize them!" Samhain ordered.
With the portal still closing fast, the small army of ghosts attacked the Ghostbusters, forcing them to redirect their attack, thus releasing Samhain from the proton beams.
Meanwhile, Kylie had disengaged her proton gun, just in time, before it exploded. She adjusted the frequency back down to the usual 15GHz and began to defend her fellow Ghostbusters. It was futile, however. There were just too many ghosts.
Then it happened.
"EGON!!" Janine screamed, as she shot at the ghost that had grabbed him.
She missed.
The others realized they couldn't shoot without hitting Egon, so they had to let him go.
"EGON!!! NOOO!!!" Janine cried as she began to run after him, but the others grabbed her and held her back.
"We can't save him if we're captured ourselves." Kylie said.
"We have to regroup and come back for him. We have to retreat," stated Roland.
"NO, NO! I won't leave him behind!" Janine cried.
"We have to, we'll come back for him. I promise." Kylie said.
"I won't let you go, Egon. I'll get you back...or die trying."
They ran through the tunnels back to the Ecto-1. Shooting at any ghosts that followed. The ghosts soon gave up and returned to their master.
Time: 11:35 PM EST
"At last, I have captured the infamous Dr. Egon Spengler." Samhain said to Egon's face with an evil grin.
"You've gained nothing by capturing me, the other Ghostbusters will zap and trap you just the same." Egon replied bravely.
"Ahhh, that's what you think, with you, I have a hold on your fellow Ghostbusters. Whenever they get too close, I can dangle you in front of them, unless they have the heart to kill you just to imprison me, which I doubt very much. You Ghostbusters have proven to be a force not to be underestimated. I did some thinking while I was in your 'containment unit' and I realized that brute force is not the way to defeat you. I can use you as a shield while I commence my plans for world domination."
"They won't stop because of me. My life is a small price to pay for the fate of the world."
Samhain narrowed his eyes and stared into Egon's as he said, "Maybe to you, but is it to her?"
"She knows that she can't sacrifice the world for one man."
"Are you sure about that, Egon Spengler?"
"Yes."
"We shall see." Samhain said with a maniacal laugh.
Time: 11:37 PM EST
Janine's face looked as if it was carved from solid stone. The same expression of determination combined with anger, she saw on Egon's face earlier, was now set on her face. She knew what she had to do and right now, she was willing to do whatever it took to defeat Samhain and get back the one she loves.
Back at the Ecto-1 she quickly took charge of the situation.
"It's almost midnight." Janine said.
"So?" asked Eduardo.
"Samhain is most powerful on this night alone, once it's over, he is weakened noticeably. All we have to do is keep his minions busy until midnight and then we can go after Samhain himself. Right now he's too strong, and with the help of his new army, he's almost invincible. He has Egon, and we HAVE to get him back safely."
"How did you know all that about Samhain?" asked Roland.
"I've been the Ghostbuster's secretary since we first opened almost 15 years ago. A lot of that time I spent with Egon. I learned a great deal from him."
"So what's your plan?" asked Garrett.
"Simple," she grabbed her thrower and held it in front of her, "we zap and trap as many of his minions as we can. He can't get any more, so it can only weaken him."
"Simple, decisive, active... I like it!" Garrett said.
"Kylie, you might want to grab that new trap that Egon's been working on." Janine said.
"But, it hasn't been tested yet." Kylie replied.
"Now seems like a good time." said Janine
Kylie grabbed the triple capacity trap, or TCT, from the back of the Ecto-1. Egon had claimed that it could hold about 50 class 3 ghosts inside, and could be reopened without releasing previously contained ghosts.
The team of five returned to the tunnels to fight Samhain one last time. One way or another, their fate will be decided within the next 20 minutes.
Time: 11:44 PM EST
"OK team, we pick them off one by one while Kylie traps each one. Pick your shots carefully." Janine ordered.
They all replied with a nod and with the sound of four proton packs powering up.
Then a small ghost flew by, probably a class 3 or 4, and Garrett whispered "It's mine!" as he blasted it. Kylie then opened the TCT, pointing it at the ghosts. Thankfully the trap opened and sucked the ghost right in slamming shut with a sharp "clang."
Kylie let out a sigh of relief when she looked at the small display telling how much space was remaining, it read 97% empty.
"It worked." Kylie stated.
"I knew it would, It was built by a genius." Janine replied.
They looked to see if Samhain had noticed what they had done. He was too busy planning his next move and keeping an eye on Egon to notice anything, fortunately.
Time: 11:59 PM EST
The Ghostbusters had been trapping every ghost that floated by for about 14 minutes, and so far Samhain still hadn't noticed. Janine never took her eyes off Egon, and so far, he appeared safe, but she knew that could change at any time.
Then, when they had just trapped a small class 2 that had floated by, Samhain turned his head to see what had been happening. When he realized what they had been doing, he became enraged.
"Foolish Ghostbusters, you think that if you capture my army then deal with me. You cannot defeat me, not on this night," he then took Egon, wrapped his hand around him and lifted him as if he was a rag doll, "and not with me in possession of your precious Egon Spengler." said Samhain confidently.
"You're forgeting one thing, Samhain. It's no longer Halloween," said Janine.
"Foolish mortal, just because I can't see the sun doesn't mean that I don't know if it's daylight."
"Maybe in Celtic belief Halloween ends at sunrise, but according to ours it ends at midnight, and since time is merely a point of view of the people who follow it, it is not Halloween."
"I don't believe you, and to prove it, I will now crush your precious Egon."
"NOOOOOO!" Janine screamed, but it was too late.
Egon's screams filled the cavern as the grip of Samhain's hand grew tighter. He just stood there and laughed as his hand got tighter and tighter, but then he stopped and loosened his grip and tried to crush him again, but he couldn't crush him. His pupilless eyes then grew wide, with what looked like fear, as he realized, she was right.
"MY CHILDREN, SEIZE THEM!" He ordered of his minions.
A swarm of ghosts came after the Ghostbusters, however, they had a surprise for them as Kylie pulled out the second TCT she had brought with her. Holding it outward in front of her, she pulled the trigger, turned her face away from the light and closed her eyes until she felt the clang of the trap slamming shut. When she opened her eyes she saw nothing but empty space, and Egon clutching his ribs nearby. However, Samhain was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh Egon!" Janine said, as she ran to his side.
"I'm fine Janine, possibly a broken rib, but nothing more." Egon replied with a grimace of pain as he clutched his ribs once again, "He went down that corridor," he pointed down a nearby tunnel behind him, "Just get Samhain!"
"I'll stay with Egon, the rest of you, TAKE HIM DOWN!"
"You heard her, let's go after him!" Kylie ordered.
The rest of the team had no argument, they wanted Samhain tucked away in the containment unit again, and now, it was personal. So, with throwers in hand, they ran down the tunnel for their final confrontation with Samhain, leaving Egon safely in Janine's arms, of which, Egon had no objection.
Date: Monday, November 1, 1999
Time: 12:04 AM EST
The EGBs continued to run down the tunnel, when suddenly, Eduardo stopped them.
"Wait, I'm sensing something."
"What are you? A warlock or something?" asked Kylie, jokingly.
"No, but I do have instincts. What does your PKE say?"
Kylie removed her PKE meter from her belt and turned it on, all she read was residual traces from Samhain.
"I'm just getting residual traces, Samhain was here, but he's not now," said Kylie. "I have a feeling that he left a little surprise for us, he is an ingenious ghost, as Egon said." replied Eduardo.
Eduardo picked up a small rock and threw it as far as he could in front of him. Suddenly a large fireball came flying at them and they were just barely able to dodge it.
"Whoa, that was too close. How did you know that would happen Eddie?" asked Garrett.
"I didn't, it was a hunch based on my instincts."
"Do you think that it's disarmed now that it's been triggered, or do you think it will do that every time something passes through that invisible PKE field?" asked Roland.
"I dunno. Let's find out."
He threw another rock down the tunnel, and sure enough, another fireball came flying back. This time Eduardo had been ready for it and easily dodged it.
"That answers that, now what do we do?" inquired Eduardo.
"Phase cancellation!" exclaimed Kylie.
"Huh?" said Garrett.
"Phase cancellation, if we blast that field with a PKE frequency identical to that of the field, except that it's 180 degrees out of phase with the original frequency, we can disperse it. We did the same thing when we dispersed the PKE fields of that mime a while back. I can adjust the PKE meter to tell me the exact frequency of the field, then all we have to do is adjust the proton throwers to that frequency, throw it 180 degrees out of phase, and the field should just disperse," stated Kylie.
"Well, let's do it," said Garrett.
Kylie adjusted a few knobs on her PKE meter and pointed it at the field, she obviously managed to get a good reading when she told the team to set their throwers to 12.3285 GHz.
"On three," said Roland.
"THREE!"
They all blasted the field simultaneously and it worked just as Kylie had expected. The field exploded with an impressive flash of light, followed by an equally impressive implosion of light until it shrunk to a pinpoint and blinked into nothingness.
"So, you managed to disarm my little trap. Foolish mortals, while you were busy with that, I was coming around from behind you. My powers may be diminished slightly, but I am still more than strong enough to destroy you. Now, you will all DIE!" said Samhain.
The sound of a single proton pack charging could be heard coming from behind Samhain.
"I don't think so, pumpkinhead," retorted Janine.
Samhain turned around, only to see the proton stream coming at him. He was then caught in the stream and was captured. The other EGBs then followed and caught him in their beams, as well.
"Wait, I just remembered, I used our last trap capturing his minions. How are we going to trap him?" asked Kylie.
AS if to answer her question, Egon came, limping slightly, with one hand still clutching his chest, an empty trap in his hand.
"Your reign ends HERE, Samhain!" He shouted as he threw the trap out underneath the helpless Samhain.
"NO! NO! Not agaaaaaaiiiiinnnn..." Samhain yelled as he got sucked into the open trap, his cries cut off by the closing of the trap's doors.
A cheer erupted from the team as Samhain became trapped in oblivion for the fourth time since he was first released over a decade ago.
Egon walked over, picked up the trap and raised it in front of him by dangling it by it's cord.
"You will never learn, Samhain. You cannot stop the Ghostbusters. No matter what you take from us."
Time: 12:34 AM EST
Egon pressed the trap into the slot and pulled the lever opening the electron field inside. Samhain was then sucked into the containment system, the opening sealing behind him. Once again he was just another piece of ectoplasm in the sea. The drop rejoined the ocean.
After checking the green light, as well as checking to see if Samhain's PKE signature was registering inside the tank, he pulled the trap from the opening and put it beside the two, now empty, TCTs.
He had found the crack that had allowed Samhain to escape. It was caused by a computer failure that had allowed the field to become unstable at that point. Apparently, someone had put a magnet too close to the computer. He made a mental note to magnetically shield all computer components and cables. It was a quick fix however, a few simple keystrokes were all it took to restore normal operation.
Just as he was finishing, Janine came walking down the stairs. Hearing her footsteps, he turned to her.
"Are you going to let me take you to the hospital for X-rays now?" she asked.
"Yes, I just had to make absolutely sure he can't escape again," he replied.
"Egon, any of the others could have done it, why were you so determined to do it yourself?"
"I couldn't even take the slightest chance that he could escape again."
He couldn't fool her, she saw right through his excuse. She knew the real reason why he wouldn't let the others take care of it.
"Egon, you have to stop blaming yourself. You could never have known that the Junior Ghostbusters would do that. You have to let it go."
He flinched as the memories came flooding back. He had gotten to the scene only seconds too late. Catherine's screams still echoed in his mind. Suddenly, something came back to him. A force that had been with him all his life, shaped who he was, who he is, and whom he will become. It was his sense of integrity. He had let it slip through his consciousness since this whole ordeal had begun. He felt something else too, something stronger than his integrity, or anything that he had ever felt before. He didn't know what it was, but it felt very familiar. He couldn't understand it yet, but he would, and sooner than he realized.
He snapped out of it, and what appeared to be mere seconds to Janine, were like a lifetime relived for Egon.
"You're right, Janine."
His posture suddenly straightened, as he recomposed himself.
"Let's go get those X-rays."
Janine smiled as she followed him to the door. She wanted so much just to hold his hand, but she knew that he needed his space to sort out his emotions right now.

Roland, and Garrett had both gone home, they both had classes in the morning. Eduardo and Kylie however, did not. They remained at the firehouse for two reasons, first they wanted to know if Egon was going to be OK, and second they wanted some quiet time alone.
Hands and fingers interlocked they gazed into each other's eyes. They were amazed at all that had happened in the past few months. When they first opened up to each other that late afternoon on the couch. They had been in love all this time, and just been too scared of rejection to admit it.
Luckily they finally realized...some things are worth the risk.
"Eduardo."
"Hmm?"
Kylie wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled her head into his chest, placing her head underneath his chin. She closed her eyes and said, "I love you."
He smiled and placed his hand on her head, as he gently stroked her strands of black hair, and said, "I love you too, Kylie." The moment was perfect, and they sat there like that for an indeterminable amount of time, to them, anyway.

Egon was the first to enter the firehouse, fully aware that all he had was a bruised rib and that he would be back to normal in a few weeks. Janine was relieved to know he was OK, as she followed him inside, a look of exhaustion on her face. It had been a long night, and she was relieved to finally sit down at her desk.
"I better go tell Eduardo and Kylie that I'm OK." said Egon.
"OK, Egon."
When he reached the top of the stairs, he was surprised to see Kylie and Eduardo asleep on the couch in each other's arms. Suddenly, something snapped into place, as if he had just found the place for the last piece in a 3,000,000 piece puzzle. He knew what that strange emotion he felt earlier was. He loved Janine, he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life, and if all he had read and seen of the spirit world was true, he wanted to spend his afterlife with her, as well.
He felt terrible how he had treated her all these years. How could he of been so blind? She kept making advances toward him and he either ignored them or backed away from them. What he didn't realize until now, was that deep down, his heart beat only for her.
There was one way to make it all up to her, and now he was more than eager to do it.

Egon looked at himself in the mirror in his tuxedo. Straightening and tightening his bow tie, he checked to make sure he looked as perfect as he could. Surprisingly he wasn't very nervous considering that this was the day of his marriage.
Taking a deep breath, he walked out into the church. Everyone was there, all the Ghostbusters and both Egon and Janine's families. It took some doing to get the all together, but it was worth it.
This was the happiest moment in her life. Finally the man she had spent...what was it now? 15 years? Yes, that was it...15 years chasing, had finally proposed to her.
Today was the day she had been waiting for, for the past 7 months.
Janine would still be the Ghostbuster's secretary, and Egon would always be a Ghostbuster, but their relationship was no longer employer and employee. Now it was husband and wife.
