Something I'm contemplating is linking to CDNow.com or Amazon.com as a resource for connecting to this type of music. Write in and let me know if you think this is a good idea or a bad idea .
Swing music is apparently back "in" now -- I'm glad you've all come around to my way of thinking...
First and foremost, arguably my favorite big band leader, the incomparable Duke Ellington has some sites on the web that are "beyond category":
(Louis) Armstrong House and Archives
An excellent Benny Goodman site by dusty Reagan.
Paul's Big Band site is quite thorough, and chock full of sound files, so please go check it out!
Computers Plus Big Band Midi Page -- check them out
The First Lady of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald has a nice site.
This is a fairly detailed listing of Big Band resources on the web.
Gone but never forgotten is Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra , who has several sites:
Discjockey.com -- Let's you listen to streaming music over the Internet. This a link to their forties section.
Cole Wide Web - The Cole Porter Resource Site
We wouldn't be doing justice to all of the fine modern era swing bands that are part of the relatively recent swing revival if we left them out...
Once you hear the music you gotta dance, and SwingHop is where to go in the DC area to find out.
The Spanish Ballroom in DC's Glen Echo Park is one of those places!
PA65K Version 3 -- that's right -- even swing hits are getting websites now! No, seriously, this site is way cool. Check out this swing site.
SwingSet.Net -- Swing Dance, Swing Bands, Swing Swing Swing!
Swing & Rockabilly - Historical Reenactment - Net Links from About.com
Check out more swinging type of links on the Retro Page .
Go back to the Hollywood Section or on to the Old Time Radio Section.
