Who is Don Simpson?

Brief Sketch:

I lead an interesting double life as an artist and technician.

As an artist I do mostly sculpture and jewelry, and occasional bits of anything else that seems interesting or beautiful.

As a technician, I've mainly built prototypes and models of high-tech devices, managed laboratories, and documented the various gadgets and methods involved.

In the middle, at the interesting edge where art and technology overlap, I do computer graphics, fonts, and Web design.

I hang out mainly with the science fiction community and its various offshoots and overlapping groups, where other people are doing things at that interesting edge....

Don Simpsons Who Are Me:

Yes, I'm *that* Don Simpson!

Don Simpson once made a robot costume using origami
- Joni Stopa, in Masquerade, The Magazine Of Science Fiction Costuming
Actually, I used metallized paper, scissors, and lots and lots of paper fasteners.

Simpson, in the twentieth century, said "It's good that things can be found by accident - otherwise you'd never find anything you weren't looking for."
- William Rotsler, in his novel, Patron of the Arts

...the U.N.C.L.E. torch was kept burning by hard-core fans such as Bob Short, Bill Mills, Don Simpson, and David McDaniel....
- Jon Heitland, in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Book
You can find Bill Mills these days at: http://www.billmills.net/

We called Don Simpson the Eldritch Doom
because of the things he kept in his room.

- Larry Niven, in his book N-Space
See under my name in Dramatis Personae, and also the introduction to Cloak of Anarchy. Niven also quoted my song Serpent's Reach (about the C.J. Cherryh science-fiction novel of the same name), for chapter 28 of his novel The Legacy of Heorot.
There's a good Larry Niven page at: http://www.larryniven.org/

Don Simpsons Who Aren't Me:

If you look for me on the Web, you will probably find these guys (and many others) instead.

Don Simpson the comic book artist, creator of Megaton Man.
- He looks nothing like me, but people who have never met him often mistake me for him at comic book conventions. I tell them I'm his evil twin.

Don Simpson the movie producer
- Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, etc. Died in 1996.
