UPDATED IN FEB. 2002

Actually, I have three different SANDERS family ties: one on my husbands side, and two on my side. My husbands side is from his STEELY/INMAN branch. My branch is from my mother, who was a SANDERS. Her name is Ruby N. Sanders HOWELL and she was born June 12, 1920 in Zack, AR., the 4th child of John Jasper SANDERS, and Moley Effie WITT and also on my fathers side, thru his mother, Sedalia Elizabeth CULLUM.

The pictures above are of JAMES CRAWFORD and also of HIS CHILDREN: L to R are [front row] Lucinda "Cindy" & Daniel. [Back Row] Elias, Charlie, Benjamin "Holly" & James Jasper SANDERS [my grandfather]. This picture of the children was taken in Merced, CA., prior to Apr. 1934, when Aunt Cindy passed away.

Family Facts:

  • The SANDERS were very musically inclined, and most of them played an instrument with great proficiency. My grandfather played a 5 string Banjo, which I inherited, and consider one of my greatest treasures.
My Grandfather, John Jasper SANDERS was named for his Uncle John Jasper BROWN, a Lawyer from Taney Co., MO, who started the "BALD KNOBBERS", a vigilante group established to bring law and order. The Vigilante group got out of hand, and his Uncle quit the group, and was , at a later date, the Lawyer who prosecuted them for the crimes they committed.
    ON MY HUSBANDS SIDE:
Henry (Joseph>Benjamin SR), b. 26 Oct. 1753, S.C. was captured by the British at the Battle Of Rocky Mount, near his home, as he was gathering acorns to feed General Green's starving Army. After being confined for some time, he escaped and continued fighting for the Revolutionary Cause until the War ended. He was among the first to volunteer for the Rev. War and was in service until the Battle Of Yorktown.
