JESSE MALIN DEMO CD Label: None
Release date: Spring, 2000
Format: CD
This CD was something Jesse passed around in the early part
of 2000. This disc originally included 10 songs; he later added
two more tracks and those CD's with tracks 11 and 12 (Demons
and Downliner) have those titles written on the CD label
by hand on at least some copies. Some of these songs were originally
recorded and performed during the PCP Highway days and some of
the cuts, such as "Solitaire" and "Love Streams"
sound just like the versions on the PCP Highway demo CD, while
"Don't Come Back" and "Basement Home" are
new recordings that differ from the PCP Highway versions.
Track Listing:
1. Bklyn
2. X-mas
3. Don't Come Back
4. Victim in My Hand
5. Solitaire
6. Basement Home
7. High Lonesome
8. Love Streams
9. Bad Friday
10. 3 Martini Lunch
11. Demons
12. Downliner
169 EP
Label: None
Release Date: April, 2000
Format: CD
This independently-released CD was Jesse's first, solo record
to be available to the public. It is now out of print and
not currently available. This disc contains 8 of the 12 tracks
from the Demo CD described above and is packaged in a color, cardboard
sleeve. At least some copies included an 8.5 x 11 picture of Jesse
along with the album credits which was folded and inserted into
the sleeve. For the record, the other musicians on this album
besides Jesse (lead vocals / guitar) included: Esko (electric
guitar / background vocals), Howie Pyro (bass, shoebox), Joe Rizzo
(Drums), Bobby Rai (drums), Joe McGinty (piano), Toby Damnit (percussion),
Ryan Adams (background vocals) and Kid Congo Powers (slide guitar).
At one time, there was a plan for a re-release of this disc
with new packaging and some different songs on Goldenseal
Records but that never came to fruition.
Track Listing:
1. Brooklyn
2. X-mas
3. Solitaire
4. Bad Friday
5. Basement Home
6. High Lonesome
7. Love Streams
8. Downliner

To Be Somebody
Label: Goldenseal
Records
Catalog Number:
Release Date: April 18, 2001; October 2001 (re-release)
Format: CD
Produced by: Bryce Goggin
Bellvue's debut album - released to limited locations on April
18, 2001 with a full, national release in June, 2001. The history
of these tunes varies - some are relatively new while others have
been performed live or previously recorded during the past two
years. Of those songs on To Be Somebody that
have shown up on past recordings, all are newly recorded versions.
Sweet Talker (a cover originally performed by the band
Sister Double Happiness) had been in DGeneration's live set during
the last year or so that they were together and a studio version
appeared on their Prohibition
EP. Sorrow, Brooklyn, Solitaire, Love
Streams and Basement Home were first recorded and performed
during the PCP Highway
days (as was Bad Actor). The song Moneyrunner is
a reworking of a song called Runnin which PCP performed
on a few occasions. Also, a version of Downliner and a
few of the PCP Highway era tracks, appear on Jesse's 169 EP. Just
FYI - To Be Somebody record can be ordered via
mail directly from GoldenSeal
records.
The initial release of the record contained a cover version
of the Rolling Stones song Heartbreaker. However, due to
contractual issues with the copyright owners of the song, it was
dropped from future pressings of the disc (an .mp3 version of
this track can be downloaded from the official
website). In October of 2001, the album was re-released, with
wider distribution, and included a revised tracklisting, with
Alien Nation and Shades of Gray dropped from the
album, and the addition of the songs Bad Actor, Never
Never and Bad Dreams. It should be noted that we here
at DC were informed by a member of the band that the a second
pressing of the disc, identical to the first but without "Heartbreaker",
was released, making the October 2001 re-release the third pressing
of the disc. However, as of this date, we have never seen this
second pressing version with our own eyes, so it may be that the
disc only exists in two states (as denoted under first and third
pressings below), or that the second state was a promo-only version.
Track Listing (first and second pressings):
1. My Life
2. Faded Flowers
3. Alien Nation
4. Brooklyn
5. Money Runner
6. Love Streams
7. Heartbreaker [first pressing only]
8. Solitaire
9. Shades of Gray

9. Sweet Talker

The Fine Art of Self Destruction
(Australian Tour edition)
Label: Modular Records
Catalog Number: MODCD025
Release Date: June 23, 2003
Format: CD
Produced by: Ryan Adams
This special, 2-CD set was released by Modular Records in Australia
to promote Jesse's tour of the country in July, 2003 (which was
subsequently cancelled). Disc 1 contains the full album (non-US
version without Cigarettes & Violets), while Disc 2 contains
4 non-album songs. Although relatively hard to find outside of
Oz - it is still readily available through on-line outlets (such
as Amazon), which tend to carry the album on several different
labels, although its special 2-disc status is not always noted
- but you can tell by verifying the label name and catalog number.
In addition, for some reason the cover differs slightly from
all other releases of Fine Art, as the letters in both Jesse's
name and the album title all run together. While all copies we
have seen are printed in this manner, it is unclear whether or
not this was a printing error and, if so, whether or not it appears
on all copies released.
