Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital NHS Trust Pathology Department. The department is divided into four sub departments according to the type of tests performed, this in turn affects the way in which requests are processed and also the sample requirements. The routine operation of each sub department is also slightly different, therefore the main test index identifies which department is responsible for each test. All of the laboratories are located on the Doncaster Royal Infirmary site. The Montagu Hospital site has a small laboratory area to process samples for shipping to the main laboratory sites. The departments of Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Microbiology are located in the same building and share the same Specimen reception area and request forms. The specimen reception area is available during normal working hours for delivery of routine or urgent specimens collected off site. Outside normal hours, the Clinical chemistry and Haematology departments operate an EMERGENCY service to provide rapid analysis of urgent samples. There is also a Phlebotomy area available to take blood specimens on behalf of hospital clinics. This can be used to take samples for GP patients where the substance being tested for is not sufficiently stable to allow transport of unprocessed samples from locations off site. Histopathology and Cytology departments are located in a separate building from the remainder of the specialties and have their own request forms and specimen reception arrangements. Samples taken at GP practices or other remote sites are usually collected by a network of vans and delivered to the specimen reception area for processing. The routine service available differs from that for hospital patients as a consequence of sample collection & report delivery. Urgent samples can be prioritized within the laboratory during normal working hours if transport is pre-arranged and handling of sample as a *'FAST TRACK' request is pre-arranged. Results from all departments can be obtained during normal laboratory hours via the Pathology Enquiries service. This is also the contact point for both technical and interpretive queries. Printed copies of all results are distributed on the next working day and/or sent via the electronic links to the GP surgery. Printed Chemistry and Haematology reports are cumulative and will include results of tests requested as an in-patient, at out-patient clinics or by the GP. This system is highly dependent on your providing accurate patient name, Date of birth and patient address data on the request form to allow our staff to correctly identify the patient's hospital data file. If you have any problems obtaining printed reports or receive any incorrect reports, please contact the Pathology Enquiries service. If you have any questions or would like to visit the laboratories please contact Pathology Enquiries. Answers to some frequent questions.2>
