EPPING FOREST SCOUTS

The District is situated just fifteen miles from the centre of London and is sandwiched between Epping Forest (from which it obviously takes its name) to the west and Hainault Forest to the east with the valley of the River Roding in the centre.  The District covers the three communities of Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell and Loughton. It is a surprising mixture of extremes, having much suburban housing; yet with two magnificently unspoilt forests, cultivated farmland and large recreational open spaces all offering much to local Scouting.

Perhaps because of these natural facilities Epping Forest District is home to a relatively large number of Scout members; last year's Census accounting for some 700, whose interests are looked after by twelve Groups, four local Venture Scout Units and the District Scout Fellowship. In these twelve Groups there are seven Beaver Scout Colonies; eleven Cub Scout Packs and eleven Scout Troops.

The District being so compact means that distances between neighbouring groups is not a problem and there is much co-operation between sections. Communication is further aided by the District magazine "Deerstalker" and the District Commissioner's "Notes & News".
