"When Your Money Talks"
James 5:1-6

What a blessing money can be! Yes what a curse money can be! It all depends upon the way we look at money, and the way we use money. Perhaps our first reaction upon reading what James has to say is that it cannot have anything to do with believers. Some say that these verses are addressed to Non-Christians, but then, James is writing to believers. Moreover, we have known those who would certainly call themselves Christians who have been so spoiled by money and riches that this passage of scripture could, sadly enough be applied to them. Let me say that there is nothing necessarily, wrong in being wealthy. The fact is that the harm comes not when we possess riches, but when riches possess us. That is how it was with the rich young ruler, "he had great possessions", but even more than that, (his possessions had him). I Timothy 6:9-11 Paul says, "But they that will be rich, fall into temptation, and a snare, and unto many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things....". I have known those who have loved God and His church, and His word, the prayer meeting had first place in their life, once they were eager to win souls, but all that is a thing of the past, their "FIRST LOVE" has cooled, and now they care "FOR NONE OF THESE THINGS" and all because of Money!

How we deal with money is a reflection of our spiritual health.

I. HOW DO WE SECURE OUR MONEY?
(James 5:1-6)

(a). Do You Secure Your Money Through Covetousness?
(Verse #3)
Verse #3 "Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days".

HEAPED ="hoarded up wealth"(it is the SPIRIT bent on HOARDING together every PENNY
possible).

HEAPING TOGETHER = "speaks of the way the money was gathered together".

Luke 12:15 Jesus Said, "Take heed, and beware of all COVETOUSNESS; for a MAN'S LIFE does not CONSIST in the ABUNDANCE of his
POSSESSIONS". So is HE who LAYS up TREASURE for HIMSELF, and is not RICH toward God".

LAST DAYS = "laying up wealth for a shrinking and uncertain future".

(b). Do You Secure Your Money Through Corruption?
Verse #4.

Verse #4, "Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud .... ". (see Leviticus 19:13, Deuteronomy 24:14-15)

James ask these ungodly, rich and greedy men to take note of the fact that there are wages that they have kept back from those they have employed to gather in their harvests.

1. These Men Had Became Careless. Verse #5 "You have lived in PLEASURE on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in the day of slaughter"

2. These Men Had Become Cruel. Verse #6 "Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you: (How do you get your money? Through Covetousness, Corruption, Carelessness, and Cruelty).

II. HOW DO WE SAFEGUARD OUR MONEY?
(Verse #3).

We notice that these men had "heaped treasure together" HEAPED = "hoarded"

There is only two places you can store your money.

(a). Money Can Be Safeguarded In The Banks Of The Land.

1. Money can buy million-dollar houses, but all the money in the world cannot turn those houses into homes. (Behind mahogany doors and iron gates are some of the world's most miserable people.)

2. Matthew 6:19 Jesus Said, "Lay not up for YOURSELVES TREASURES upon EARTH, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:"

3. Paul Said, II Cor 12:14 "...the children ought not to LAY UP for the PARENTS, but the PARENTS for the CHILDREN." (There is nothing wrong with safeguarding money on earth, as long as it is for the Glory of God")

4. Money will fail all of us at Death's Door. Luke 16:19-31, Luke 16:9 Jesus Said, "And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the MAMMON (money) of unrighteousness; that when YE (it) FAIL, they may receive you into everlasting habitations".

b). Money Can Be Safeguarded By The Blood Of The Lamb.

1. Matthew 6:20-21, Jesus Said, "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where YOUR TREASURE is, there will YOUR HEART be also."

2. Hebrews 11:8-10, Abraham who was a very RICH MAN, had LAID UP his WEALTH in HEAVEN. Verse 10, "For HE LOOKED for a CITY which hath foundations, whose BUILDER and MAKER is God".

III. HOW DO WE SHARE OUR MONEY.
(Verse #5)

Verse #5 "Ye have LIVED IN PLEASURE on the EARTH, .... Ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter."

Our money talks by how we give it. Some people simply give their money to themselves in self-indulgence, while others give it to the Lord to advance His kingdom.

PLEASURE = "extravagant comfort" (to lead a soft life)

NOURISHED YOUR HEARTS = "to give oneself to pleasure"

(a). We Can Share Our Money In Pleasurable Things.
I Tim 5:6 "She.. in ."

(b). We Can Share Our Money In Permanent Things.
Matt 6:19-20, Luke 16:1-9
