"Sin's Hook Line And Sinker"

James 1:12-16

Every one of us has, for at least one moment, been tempted. But where exactly does this temptation come from? Who or what causes it? How can we survive it - or can we survive it at all?

Illustrate: Temptation. Vr#12 and Vr#13

(We want to blame others for our sin) S(I)N = "I" Is the middle letter. (Adam & Eve)

Vr#13 ... " Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: ..." (We are personally responsible).

I. WE MUST RECOGNIZE THE CAUSE OF SIN. ("The Source Of Sin")
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

James 1:14 BUT EVERY MAN IS TEMPTED, when he is DRAWN away of his OWN LUST and ENTICED.

(a). LUST = "DESIRE" ... drawn away of his own lust. (Sin is an Inside Job).

1. Normal Desires 2. Wrong Desires
Romans 6:12 "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lust (desires) thereof."

Romans 13:14 "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts (desires) thereof.

(b). ENTICED = "TAKEN WITH A BATE" ... "and enticed" (Sin is an Outside Job).

Matt 4:3 "When the tempter (Satan) came to him (Jesus), he said, IF thou be the Son of God, ...."

Luke 4:13 "And when the DEVIL had ended all the TEMPTATION, he departed from him for a season. (See I Cor 10:13, II Peter 2:9, I Thess 3:5)

II. WE MUST RESIST THE COURSE OF SIN. (How temptations works -The process of Sin)

(a). STEP ONE * ENTICEMENT. "Taken With A Bait" or "Lured by the bait".

1. evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness,blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

(b). STEP TWO * ENTRAPMENT. Vr#14 .."Drawn away" "snared in a trap"

1. Satan knows - "The sin which doth so easily besit us,..." Heb 12:1

(c). STEP THREE * ENDORSEMENT. Vr#15 "Then when lust hath conceived, .."

1. When desire has conceived .. it gives birth to sin.

(d). STEP FOUR * ENSLAVEMENT. Vr#14 .."it brings forth sin.."

1. You can choose how you want to LIVE. (Privilege Of Personal Choice)

2. You can choose the ACTION, but not the RESULTS.

3. You are free to make the CHOICES, but you cannot avoid the CONSEQUENCES.

4. You can choose the KICKS, but you cannot avoid the KICKBACKS!

III. WE MUST REALIZE THE CURE FOR SIN.

God Is Not The Cause Of Your Sin, But God Can Be The Cure For Sin.

God has done two things to take care of the sin problem.

(a). GOD SENT HIS SON. Eph 2:8-9. John 1: "Behold the Lamb of God"..
(Jesus Never Yielded To Sin)

(b). GOD SAVES THE SINNER. John 1:11 and Romans 10: 9-13

Through personal faith in Jesus Christ, He will save you and give you victory over sin. Ask Him to come into your life. Jesus was the substitute for our sin.

Vr#16 .... "Do not err, my beloved brethern." ("stay true to Jesus") ("don't defect")
