Reflecting efficiency,
Love curling for pause.

Get A Long Little
Doggie
If you're looking
for love, loyal and true
I have a suggestion, my friends.
A Dachshund seems odd until you figure
Just where he starts and he ends.
When strolling about the neighborhood
You'll have to slow down your pace.
He's moving as fast as his legs will go,
He just wasn't built to race.
He snuggles and burrows with powerful snout
This loving elongated dog.
His short little legs resemble for sure
Twigs on a little brown log.
He'll bark as a Shepherd, growl as a Lab,
I have it on reliable rumor.
But best of all his expressions and build
Will tickle your sense-of-humor.

Dog
nosing the wind
With hair pressed flat
To the skin,
Passing car sculpture.

The Seeing Eyes
They stood as
one,
His body's gentle pressure
Dissuading movement.
She trustingly obeyed.
He stood firm in the midst
Of the turning vehicles,
Thoughtlessly propelled by
Drivers oblivious to
His task at hand.
He adeptly begins the walk,
Body rippling with attention.
Every movement has purpose.
He maneuvers her safely past
The center boulevard, the
Half-way hazard.
Without turning his head
He sees all he needs to see.
He's working, taking his
Responsibility in cool stride,
Alert to the very bones.
As they reach their destination
I feel the Love surge through
My body for this beautiful,
Loving expression of life. I
Want to race out and embrace
Him with the Love of the Divine.
I saw it all, a moving demonstration
Of beauty, and it Blessed me with Joy.
For a few brief moments I breathed with
Him and shared his selfless gift of
The Seeing Eyes.

City-bred
chipmunks,
Loud decisions on who's first,
Running up downspouts.

A Champion, All
Along
Are there stars
in the eyes of a thoroughbred
As her hooves drum a rhythmic beat?
Does she feel in her heart as muscles respond
Competition she dares to defeat?
She has practiced long, she knows every twist
Of the reins in her jockey's hands,
Watching her diet, learning the ropes, she
Lives for her freedom, heeding commands.
As she covers the turn someone is ahead,
Does she hurt with the thought of defeat?
Or like a true champion of human kind
Does she summon and surge to challenges meet?
As I watch this lady in her element
I'm with her each step of the way,
Edge of my chair, heart in my mouth,
"Come On, Girl!" is all I can say.
She rounds the bend, finish is near,
The crowd begins screaming at her
I open my tightly clenched palms to show
Deep marks where the fingernails were.
Neck and neck, with the others she flies.
"Oh! Look! She's starting to close!
Adrenaline pumping, shimmering limbs,
Right through the finish to win by a nose!
