Happy Surfing!
Animation World Magazine asked me to write some tips on how to get one's comics published. As an addendum to this article, I'd like to say that anyone interested in self-publishing (or even anyone interested in doing comics professionally) should pick up a copy of the Cerebus Guide to Self-Publishing by Dave Sim. It's $4.00 US/$6.00 Canada (postpaid); send to Aardvark Vanaheim Inc., Box 1674, Station C, Kitchener, Ontario N2G 4R2. Creators interested in self-publishing should also check out the Xeric Foundation (see below).
The Xeric Foundation was set up by Peter Laird (one half of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creative team) to give a grant of up to $5000 to five or six people to publish their own comic book every six months. The first two issues of Awakening Comics were published using Xeric grant money.
CD Regan has contributed to a number of Awakening projects, namely Everwinds 2, 3, and 4, the logo for Awakening Comics #3: The Everwinds Awakening War, Awakening Comics 1999, and the back cover jam in Awakening Comics 2001. His current project is a masterpiece called Nether.
Jason Thompson has done a terrific adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. The fifth and final issue includes pinups by Mike Mignola and yours truly, Steve Peters. The latter pinup features a number of characters from both Awakening Comics and DQoUK. Jason puts an insane amount of detail into his artwork and the Awakening pinup is a true tribute to his drawing style---a must see for any Awakening/Everwinds follower.
Jim did my jiva portrait in the Images section of this site. A lot of his comics feature some form of dream symbolism or have surreal, dream-like qualities. His comic Frank is highly recommended.
A contributor to the Awakening #1 jam, as well as the back cover jam of Awakening 2001. Matt also did a sketch of Fur Face that appears in the images section of this site. Cynicalman is probably the best-known mini-comic out there.
Yet another artist who drew a panel in the Awakening #1 jam. If you are interested in dream images and symbolism, his Rarebit Fiends comic is a lot of fun.
Eric Wilmoth drew the center spread in Awakening Comics 2001, and is responsible for the first appearance of Sparky outside Awakening Comics (in Untitled Tales #1). More information on both of these is available on his site.
Scott is the creator of the 24-hour comic as well as the must-read Understanding Comics. If you go to his section on 24-hour comix, you'll find a listing for my mini-comic, Slow Wind.
A *VERY* comprehensive guide to finding Cerebus information on the web. There's a lot of Cerebus memorabilia out there, a lot of web sites...the mind boggles. There's a list of all the collaborations and contributions to other comics Dave Sim has done over the years, including his appearances in Awakening Comics.
