Frisky Ferrets is dedicated to the education of the general public, ferret owners, owners to be, pet shops and any interested parties in ferret care and all aspects relating to ferrets.    We have space available on this page for anyone in this area with a ferret they can no longer keep and are looking for a new home for their fuzzie children.

Hello Everybody!
I am Thomas's Dweasel.   I am the new host for now, both Angel &Jasmine past away this year as well as Maytag.   Mom was really sad and she still cause Angels Liver cancer had no signs at all and it was to late for the Louisianas Best Ferret Vet Karen Gordon to help her,  she tried but the tumor was almost as big as her.   So next time your mom picks you up and starts feeling your belly and stuff don't squirm so much your mom is just checking things out!   Enough of that time to talk about me.
Mommy says I am the Flying Ferret! I guess I have to agree cause when mom would call Angel naughty, Angel would say  "at least I don't think I am a bird and fly into your hair everytime you bend down and sit on top of your head like Thomas does!"    I have to admit I am very good at flying, infact did you know that the fastest way out of the ferret room is to climbe a cage and jump from the cage out and over the dutch door.  Its pretty easy, give it a try.  But don't tell your mom I told you how to do it, I promised I would not misbehave.
Mommies friend that moved in with the eight week old ferret moved but she her ferret is still here he is my pal.  We share a cage and do real naughty things together, we dump litterboxes over together and throw all the food out of the food dish right after mommy fills it together.  We are a team, his name is SG Jerhamia Thor, he has more names but me and mom can't remember them and her friend is not here, but I know the SG stands for Super Germ cause he was real sick when he was little.  I guess it is time for me to go for now........

- By the way Ferrets talk in Green!

If you want to talk to my mommy you call her at: 1-318-827-5627
Mommy's name is Tricia by the way!

Mommy Says you can learn stuff about weasely guys here so I will tell you more about me later!

What is Ferret Placement?

Ferret Placement is basically the maintaining of two lists, one for people looking and one for people looking for homes for their ferrets. All information possible is gathered on the ferret looking for a home, age, color, health, vet, current on vaccines, behavior, temperment and such. Families looking for a ferret are sent a questionnaire/adoption formto fill out the same as if they were adopting from a shelter. When all information is gathered we match the families up together and hopefully the ferrets find new loving home.
There of course are exception and the explanation of Ferret Placement is rather simplified here.
Why Do Ferret Placement? - Placement gives the ferret more time with the current owner and less stress of going from one place to another only to go to yet another. It also is less stressful to the current owner who loves their ferret but for one reason or another can no longer keep their ferret. They get to meet the prospective new parents themselves and personally choose the new home. No information on any ferret will be supplied to a questionable or unfit home, same as a shelter or rescue, this way the current owner gets to meet people that would fit a normal adoption critieria. This also enables us to care for our older and ill ferrets that have been taken in with out the added risks of contagious illness being introduce to our home. This is the reason we chose to do placement, as most of the ferrets here are 6 & up and some with medical problems.
In short Ferret Placement is simply a way to help out unwanted ferrets find homes through working with the current owner, it also puts some of the responsibility back to the owner.
I hope this has helped to explain Ferret Placement and what we do. Because of my own health problems I am currently trying to work strickly on ferret placement - but as I stated before there are exceptions to every rule! For more information or to list a ferret for placement call Frisky Ferrets at

THIS SECTION WILL BE UPDATED SOON

Trouble Maker Mommy says the person that welcomed Mischief in there home also is special because Mischief had some behavior problems - not that I - Angel the Inocient ferret would know anything about behavioral problems, not me!

I didn't do it - not me I am a good little ferret Ok everyone listen up! Look at me I am a beautiful ferret that my first home did not want anymore - so why don't you give one of these ferrets a chance and you might get one as pretty as me too! Aren't I pretty?? These ferrets are good kids, their moms and dads just couldn't keep them anymore, one of them might make a nice addition to your family.

I am a good girl - really I am Mommy told me to tell everyone that blind ferrets can get around fine, you just have to take extra precautions and can't move furniture around alot. Mom says the vet says Jasmine has a degenerative eye problem or something like that and she is now blind - but I didn't know that, she plays with me all the time and I never even noticed. I wanted to tell you that so you don't think that a blind ferret is not going to be able to play or live with your other ferrets - that goes for deaf ferrets too, I know all about that cause I am deaf!!

I am a good girl - really I am I thought I would just let everyone know that moms computer got the hiccups and she lost her list with a couple shelters in La to be added to this list, so if you were waiting to be added please e-mail mom again and she will add you!

If you are looking to adopt a ferret in Louisiana please contact one of the shelters/rescues/placements listed on this page And please keep checking back with your local ferret shelter as
conditions can change daily - one day there may be none then the next day there may be 10!

Special Thanks to Jan and the GDFA

I would just like to take a minute to say thank you to Jan and the GFA. I have always loved ferrets but it wasn't until I met these wonderful people that I even knew there was a need for ferret shelters or placement. With ferrets learning never stops.
If you are in Ga. and looking for a ferret or other ferret people please contact the GFA, they are wonderful people and always willing to answer questions. My favorite ferret I ever had was adopted from the GFA.

I found this poem on one of the sites listed above it sums up the importance of Ferret Shelters and Placements, it is also heart-breaking.

Bandit

Listless, and lying, Fur matted and dull
"Bandit" lay crying, Heart shattered, a shell.

Left in his cage, All day and all night,
His life was such That more food gave a fright!

His water was empty Food bowl overturned
He felt kinda dizzy, His stomach still churned.

Once he was loved A long time ago
Felt young hands stroking, That made his heart glow!

Now he felt nothing, No more was life fun.
His heart was empty Now he had no-one.

His cage had felt big, For it was just a bed.
No runs in the house now, He may well be dead

He watched as his 'owner' Walked past to the van.
Now left in the garage, He rarely saw 'man'

He slept all the time, No toys in the cage.
If he'd had the heart, He would be enraged!

Bandit lay crying, Spine clearly shown,
Bandit lay dying, His life overthrown.

One day he was taken. Moved out of his cell,
He was badly shaken, Now in for more hell!

Jaws latched on tight A reaction of fear,
A hand gently stroked, Too late now to care.

In his new cage, Belly now tight,
Bandits' short life Ended that night.

He died with some comfort, Soft bedding and food
His water now filled, (So much it felt lewd!)

Bandit died knowing That someone did care
Died with a heart Full of love that was shared.

For those that no longer Can care for their charges
Their lives are being begged for By Bandit, and others

Before it's too late (As it was with poor Bandit)
Go, take that baby, To a shelter, do hand it

Do one final thing For the love they have shown you
And give them a chance To show others love too.
