Capital Senior Center at Maxcy Gregg Park (just off Pickens near Blossom) 3-6 pm Sunday February 2, 1997 For those of you who have been pining for a good vocalist, you are
going to get your wish this month when Jackie Culley joins the house
band. Jackie is always a popular guest. She has a nice way with a
ballad, but she can turn on the heat, too. Jackie sings regularly
with the Ancient Age Society Jazz Band and guests at other venues
around Columbia. There was a good crowd, especially considering the competition from the playoffs. Those of you who chose to watch football missed another great concert. But if you watched local news on either Channel 10 or 19, you got a chance to hear a little of it. We don't know why but crews from both stations showed up and taped exerps for local news that evening. It is a pity they didn't stay around and catch the band doing "Poor Butterfly". That and a whole host of songs were magnificent. Mary Bond has volunteered to start writing for the Cat's Meow. That's great for all sorts of reasons. Not the least of which is that I find myself using the same words and phrases over again. I'm sure you will be happy to read someone else for a while. If you have the time and energy, we can sure find a place for your talents. In particular, Jane Philips could use a hand with memberships. Perhaps you & she could alternate and that would be easy for everyone. THE CAROLINA JAZZ SOCIETY was founded in 1957 to enjoy Dixieland Jazz, one of America's original art forms. Concerts are $6 for non-members, $3 for members, free for Patrons and young people under 18. We have a web site! Check us out at
