VOLUNTEERS DEDICATED TO PLACING ADOPTABLE POTBELLIED PIGS
PIG PLACEMENT NETWORK is an adoption service managed by a committee of volunteers from the different potbellied pig associations in different states. Our members wish to promote and protect the potbellied pig as a companion and housepet. Many of us contribute by sharing our pets with the public: showing them at large and small fairs, pet shows, or by participating in pet therapy for children and adults.
We as pet owners recognize that as for most all companion animals, potbellied pigs, too, can lose their homes or become abandoned. One of the primary goals of our adoption project is to help keep pet pigs in their current homes until new homes can be found. While we endeavor to place most as housepets, we do occasionally place an "outdoor" pet piggy.
PIG PLACEMENT NETWORK maintains a descriptive list of adoptable pigs, most of whom are currently living with their owners. Volunteers recruit and educate prospective new piggy parents before matching an adoptable pig to a new home. When recruiting, the volunteers goal is to make a successful match by carefully screening applicants and providing the information they need before deciding to make a 10- to 15-year commitment to a pet pig. As is true for so many animals, the potbellied pig is not for everyone, but can be a source of great joy to the right person or family. Once a pig has been placed, our volunteers remain available for questions on care and training of the pet pig. For the new owner, learning all that one can about the pet pig is the best guarantee for a long and happy companionship.
PIG PLACEMENT NETWORK is funded and sponsored primarily by our member volunteers. Monetary contributions or other donations (e.g. blankets or bedding) can help to defray veterinary, housing, transportation, and administrative costs, and are gratefully accepted. These can be directed to PIG PLACEMENT NETWORK through any of our volunteers.
We hope that by bringing together potbellies and people we can improve and enrich the lives of not only these deserving pets but their new owners as well.
