I think it's great that there is a web site like yours available to help piggy owners get good care information. When I first came online last October, there was nothing. We have a 5 yr old potbellied pig named Opie who is our "child." He is 120 lbs., an indoor pet with a large fenced in yard, and definitely favors my husband. Go figure...I was the one who fell in love with him and convinced hubby we needed a pig in the family. Thanks for the notices about your web site.

I received Swine On Line last month for the first time and I thought it was great. I felt that there was finally something online that could help with my female pbp George. I just brought her from Miami to NC last month after a year of separation and she was a bit tramatized from the trip and reading you articles helped me through some difficult times with a giggle. Thanks for sending it my way. Keep them coming.... (oo) Diane

Not all pigs nest! If the pig does not play with the blankets, you can make him a bed that is good for his back by folding several blankets to create four inches of "cush." Next take 1-2 (depending on blanket size) and wrap them around perimeter, making a circle around the base 4 inches. The goal is to create a "bird's next" look which will give the pig back the support the long spine needs. You can also take a duvet cover or pillow case (if pig is young) and fill it with styrofoam, packaging pellets. Fill no more than 3/4 full. Add a second cover, just in case you have a pig who uses his teeth to root. You can teach him that ripping blankets is unacceptable, but better that you don't have peanut pellets all over the floor while you are learning. So using a second duvet or pillow sham gives you added protection against this. As with human children, you have to teach the pig to use the new item. Punch it with your hand, etc. Most pigs like the "crinkle" sounds the pellets make! Older pigs are not as playful. I "fluff" my big pig's twin size duvet every evening. Then I karate chop it in the center, to make a "next. I push down the entrance, so he doesn't have to step so high to get into the bed next. I sometimes leave a shrunken (very hot water) wool blanket over the top of the bed nest, so he can crawl into a warm "cave." Jaki Beshur

It's a great idea to have a web page on potbellied pigs!! I love them lots and lots and lots lots lots lots lots more. I don't own one myself but am looking for one. I have checked with pet stores, farms, your web page, etc, etc, etc...... but I am still pigless since I have found nobody who sells them where I live. I live in Alberta, Canada ( that's the country to the north of you- look up, look WAY up!!!! :)) You should also list some addresses and phone numbers in Canada of where to purchase a fine potbellied fellow! Please do this sometime, it will be very much appreciated. Thanx eh?!!!!

I love to find places to read about others whose pigs allow them to share the house! We have two - very different piganalities, but both very loving and loveable. Problem we are having: female has very long hooves (nails)that bleed readily when clipped. Therefore we only clip a little at a time, but they get longer than we can keep up with & bleed worse each time. Any thoughts from anyone?

Thank you for this wonderful resource. I have a 5 month old female potbellied pig named Peanut. I love her so much but am having some difficulty keeping her amused. I want to play with her and teach her things but I was running out of ideas and she was getting bored. I have already taught her to walk on a leash, to come when she is called and to sit. We are taking Obedience training right now. I have discovered a lot of new things to teach her and can't wait to get home and start!!

My situation is unusual in that we found our pig as a baby abandoned. We do not have piggy friends nor know of any piggy people with which we can seek advise. It has been difficult trying to find potbelly pig contacts. I hope to find much information and help in this web site. Simple things like how much to feed him or what his target weight should be at a certain age would help keep us on track.

What a great site. I wish I had received the information on toxic plants a month ago. I just spent about a BUNCH(!!!)of money on landscaping and much to my distress now find that I'm going to have to rip out a number of the plants. The new azeleas are lovely and now in bloom. Fortunately, my Precious has not yet found them. I also have a few others that will have to go as well. (Sigh!) Oh well, better safe than sorry. A dumb bush is not worth endangering my Precious pig. Thanks so much for the information on training and tricks. I've been looking for trick information, and have not been able to find anything definitive until this great site. We are going to start tomorrow! I'll check back often for any new additions -- thanks again for all the good info. Linda p.s. Where are the pictures of Amos???

I am looking for a feeder that my 2 pot bellied pigs can use while i am away on weekend. I am using a dog feeder now, but the big pig(Missy) gets her head in it and tries to get more food. She is a new ginea pot bellied pig. They both have thier own personalities. The true pot bellied pig(Cuddles) lets her eat as much as she wants. I am lookig for a feeder that will ration the amount of food as well as not bending out of place when she can't get any more food. Can you help me find a feeder. Cathy Oliver
