Team Background

The False Creek Women's Team began in 1986, Expo Year, in Vancouver. Marathon racer Heather Taylor gathered together 22 women from various athletic backgrounds to compete in an open race weekend. Coming third to two men's teams was the start of a tradition that continues today. This is the team's 10th year of being together. The women's team is open to any woman who is a member of the False Creek Racing Canoe Club. We offer coaching on the water, as well as weight and aerobic training and coaching.
The team determines it's yearly race goals which in the past has seen many a successful trip to Asia as well as being reigning champions for the past 10 years in Canada. The team provides an opportunity for paddlers to train and race in a supportive and competitive atmosphere with the goal being performance.
Funded mostly from within through various fund raising events, the large part of travel cost is borne by the women. The team will for the first time this year not be going to Asia because of financial reasons. As many festivals cater to the mixed events and often will not allow the women's team to race these events, finding competitive race venues is becoming more difficult. Despite constant challenges facing this team, we maintain a high standard of training and performance.
