ELFLAND: A novel

Lots Happening! After a long quiet period mostly spent beavering away in my study, everything seems to be happening at once. My new novel, previously known as All About Elfland, is now called simply – ELFLAND. It’s going through its final editorial stages at the moment and due to be published by TOR (US) in 2009. My editor says the cover will show the wording ELFLAND with ‘A novel’ underneath. Very excitingly, the artist lined up for the cover is KY Craft, who is renowned for her beautiful fairyland scenes. I’m also at work on my second novel for Tor – working title Midsummer Night, but again, this may change.

A BLACKBIRD IN SILVER DARKNESS

Next piece of exciting news is that Immanion Press (see link below) is republishing my first pair of novels, A Blackbird in Silver and A Blackbird in Darkness, in a single, omnibus paperback edition, called A BLACKBIRD IN SILVER DARKNESS. The cover art is very different from its previous incarnations, with an image by Polish photographic artist Malgorzata Maj, and layout/typography by Andrew Bigwood. This was fun for me as I got to choose the image and suggest the layout which was then beautifully realised by Andy. I’ll try to put the image up here soon. The book should be available from February 2008.

MYTH-UNDERSTANDINGS

And there’s more – MYTH-UNDERSTANDINGS is a brand new anthology of stories published by NewCon Press and edited by Ian Whates, with a beautiful cover by Anne Sudworth. Anne is an acclaimed fine artist who rarely does book covers, but apparently in this instance she let Ian bribe her with chocolate!  The anthology includes many well-known authors such as Storm Constantine, Liz Williams, Gwyneth Jones, Pat Cadigan, Justina Robson, and Tricia Sullivan. My story is called And Their Blood Will Be Prescient to Fire, and it’s based on characters (Charlotte and Violette) well-loved from my vampire books (A Taste of Blood Wine, A Dance in Blood Velvet, The Dark Blood of Poppies). Please seek the anthology out – Ian’s done a wonderful job putting a splendid selection of authors together.

EASTERCON, MARCH 2008

MYTH-UNDERSTANDINGS will be launched at Eastercon, which is to be held at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, Heathrow, 21 – 24 March 2008. I intend to be there with copies of A Blackbird in Silver Darkness too. (I’m usually hanging around in the bar or dealer’s room!)

Previously…

Pagan Moon – hard to find book surfaces!

I receive quite a few emails from people who have enjoyed Dark Cathedral but can’t find a copy of the sequel, Pagan Moon. When we moved into this house, my husband Mike stowed all our boxes of books straight into the loft where they have remained undisturbed for five years. Well, when we finally decided to have a clear-out last week, I found a small quantity of Pagan Moons that I had completely given up hope of finding.

If you are interested, please get in touch. The price will reflect the rarity of the book but please remember these will be new, signed copies! And still only a very few.

Chronicles SF Network

Please take a look at this fantastic site – all your favourite authors are there and you can talk about books and writing to your heart’s content! I’ve now got my own author board so you can message me there. http://www.chronicles-network.com/forum/freda-warrington/

I’m indebted to author Mark Robson for setting the ball rolling!

BLACKBIRD books -  A BLACKBIRD IN AMBER and A BLACKBIRD IN TWILIGHT are both now available from Immanion Press!

Incidentally, Immanion have a new web address: www.immanion-press.com

The long-awaited anthology OUTSIDERS has been published to great reviews – see below.

OUTSIDERS - '22 all-new stories from the edge' -Edited by Nancy Holder and Nancy Kilpatrick. Published by ROC New American Library $14.95.

Outcast, outlaw, goth, skinhead, freak, misfit: Show us your scars. Are they burned in the flesh? Or carved in the soul?

Yes, folks, this long-awaited anthology is now available with stories by Tanith Lee, Neil Gaiman, Poppy Z Brite, Jack Ketchum and many other big names. My story is 'Cat and the Cold Prince' and is VERY loosely based on characters in my novel-in-progress, ALL ABOUT ELFLAND. You can order OUTSIDERS from Amazon.com.

More Previously Still

Interaction - World SF convention held in Glasgow, August 2005 - Mike and I had a great time and you can read my personal report of the con HERE.

A BLACKBIRD IN AMBER, the third in the Blackbird quartet, is now available in hardback collectors' edition from Immanion Press.  Please note that if you received an early edition, an unfortunate cock-up crept in - chapter 13 was printed twice, while chapter 14 (the last) was omitted entirely! The corrected copies are now available - just send yours back to Immanion Press for a free replacement.  For IP info see link above.  The fourth book, A BLACKBIRD IN TWILIGHT, will be out in 2006.

IMMANION PRESS

Anyone who writes or reads will know that getting a book published has more to do with commercial potential than actual talent.

A new, independent publisher has been launched by Storm Constantine in order to reissue classic but hard-to-find works (such as Storm's Wraeththu series - and my 'Blackbird' series), and to showcase deserving new authors who would never get a look-in with the 'big boys'.  In defiance of the big, bad world of mainstream publishing, Immanion represents quality rather than quantity and brings you the weird and wonderful!

The images above show Freda's first ever novels - A BLACKBIRD IN SILVER and A BLACKBIRD IN DARKNESS - reissued by Immanion in beautiful collectors' hardback editions with covers by Ruby.  To find out more, click on Book Information above.  To enter the Immanion Press site, click on Links.

THE COURT OF THE MIDNIGHT KING

by Freda Warrington. (Pocket Books (Simon & Schuster UK) June 2003).  An alternative history/fantasy based on the story of King Richard III, the most controversial and intriguing of English monarchs.  Many books have been written about Richard but Freda takes a different, darkly magical view, 'in the bestselling tradition of MISTS OF AVALON and LADY OF HAY'.
