In "The Quilt of Hathor," the old maid Effie Stokes used the infamous quilt to kill off her rivals for the hand in marriage of Reverend Josiah Grange. In "And Now the News," the ambitious Dr. Avril Carter used a cursed radio to scare patients to death in her maniacal quest for success and a Nobel Prize. Both character's motivations were destructively selfish, while the character of Anne Holloway in "Repitition" was a social worker who nearly sacrificed herself to save a young girl.
