The Hanna-Barbera equivalent of Mel Blanc until Mel joined him,Daws did a lot of WB voices (including
Chuck Jones's excellent ROCKET BY BABY)
(1956),doing Jinks,Pixie,(to Don Messick's Dixie),Quick Deraw,Yogi and a huge host
of others. He did many impersoantions, and, having been on BEANY
AND CECIL with WB's Bob Clampett and Stan Freberg on the hit puppet (later a toon itself)
took over from Frerberg's voices (which both did on Capitol on Freberg albums, many
of which are still revived on recordings and radio
by Dr.Demento).
Daws soon did many voices at all the studios in Hollywood (Disney excepted, although he did
do MARY POPPINS,another irony being that Paul Frees's
one and only WB animation voice was their live animated
INCREDIBLE MISTER LIMPET
.Many of these became Hanna-Barbera's most recognized voices, that many
generations of children loved just as with Mwel Blanc';s star voices, and with Mel at HB and Daws at WB(Yogi, for example grew out of Art Carney's
HONEYMOONERS role as Ed Norton before taking on a life of its own,so to speak,at WB in some shorts0.
The world lost a great voice when he died in 1988.
