Danny Webb

One of the (until recently) totally obscure WB 1930s cartoon voice mimics, Danny Webb (real name: Dave Weber) was the main voice of Egghead, the prototype to Elmer Fudd,a character who was originally voiced (in 1937's EGGHEAD RIDES AGAIN,directed by Fred "Tex" Avery), by
Mel Blanc ,and possibly,Cliff Nazarro.

He could do every one, from Edward G.Robinson (1890-1973),Ned Sparks (1883-1957) ,W.C.Fields (1880-1946),to Fred Allen (1894-1956) and possibly Kay Kyser (1897-1985),Ted Lewis (1890-1971) ,Bing Crosby (1901-1977) and others. Others, such as Elvia Allman , Dave Barry , Sara Berner , Frank Graham , Jack Lescoulie ,Kent Rogers, and Elmore Vincent not only at Leon Schlesinger/Warner Bros. and Warner Bros./Warner Bros. but also at Charles Mintz/Screen Gems/Columbia, Walter Lantz/Universal, Walt Disney/Columbia, and Harman-Ising/MGM and MGM/MGM in the 1930s.

According to columnists Hames Ware and Keith Scott (the latter an old time radio tape collector and cartoon voice in Australia and America), originally Webb and Weber (Dave) were considered (because of their very vastly similiar names, natch!) separate, but obviously one and the same.

This and other information, from Animato! magazines over the last several years,as reported therein, was gathered from knowledge on the paret of Hames and Keith and friend Graham Webb and Mike Barrier with the late Bob Clampett (1910-1916?-1984), and the late Walter Lantz (1899-1994) who had some similiar sounding characters and tracing,it came to Danny Webb.

Webb, it seemed imitated actors for a number of live shorts (and possibly Paramount';s long obscure, but popular, then,SPEAKING OF ANIMALS live,CLUTCH CARGO like theatrical series).

He was mentioned, in a newspaper borrowed by Hames Ware,as mentioned above,or still another friend,Ken Greenwald, from New York's large Billy Rose (song publsiher-writer,1889-1966),Museaum,a clip of Danny Webb, praising his unprententious hositng a kiddie TV show.

This clears up quite a lot of "who did what celeb" voice impression-oriented quesitons when it comes to tracking down the voices of the 1930s. For some more interesting comments,or as a certain rabbit would say,iiiin-teresting-comments..see my piece on Classic Cartoon Impressionists.
