A lone gull seems to be taking in all the sights atop a pole at the Milford Marina and boat club.
In the distance, beyond the breakwater rocks, Charles Island can be seen. When the tide is low, a natural sandbar becomes a long walkway leading to the island and many people enjoy spending time out there taking in the different sights and sounds, found only on an island.
With this natural sandbar road exposed at low tide, the island is easily accessed...better wear a watch since the tide is high again in about six hours.
I live about 30 miles inland from this area of the Atlantic Ocean- in the beautiful, cool and green and shady state of Connecticut. Its one of my favorite places to visit. I have so many childhood memories of vacationing at a shorefront cottage each summer near Silver Beach.
The ocean is a banquet for each of our senses to feast on..it's truly a gift of Earth, with its sights and sounds, colors and creatures and treaures- from a child's collection of shells, to delicious Maine Lobsters, dipped in buttersauce- it is here for all to enjoy. We must see to it that the generations that follow us have the same chance to reap it's bounty and ride its waves.
