Da Race Scene
Oahu's (and the state's) major mountain bike race is the Outrigger Hotels Hawaiian Mountain Tour in March. It's an early season stage race (prologue, time trial, downhill, cross-country, and dirt criterium) in it's third year. Open to all from beginners to professionals.
In September 1996, Oahu hosted the Mountain Biking World Cup Finals.
Neighbor Island Riding
Oahu has great trails, but the neighbor islands' trails are just as great, if not better.
Ride 38 miles down from the 10,000 ft summit of Haleakala on the island of Maui. Check out Maui Mountain Biking for more info about cycling on Maui.
Do some snow cycling and check out the observatories on the top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii. Not for the anemic or asthamatic. At 13,000 feet, the air is very, very thin but the ride down is something else! It's the site of our most epic ride. Click here to read about it. Check out Big Island Mountain Biking Association webpage for trail information.
Explore Waimea Canyon on Kauai, Hawaii's little version of the Grand Canyon.

Read the latest cycling stories and reviews on Mountain Bike Pro, GearHead Mountain Bike Cyberzine , MTB Review , and Velonews Interactive. Four absolutely cool cybermags!
Mail order shops to check out: Bike Nashbar, Colorado Cyclist, Performance Bicycle, Cambria Bicycles, and Price Point. I really don't recommend other high-profile mail-order companies because of too many problems with false advertisements, wrong orders, extremely long waits for back-ordered items, and "bait-and-switch" sales tactics.
