I have been to Lake Compounce several times, but the last time had been in 1987. It was that year that Hershey was operating Lake Compounce, so it was known as Hershey Lake Compounce. I rode the Wild Cat both before and after its restoration for the 1987 season. For whatever reason, despite my obvious (from other pages here!) admiration for Herb Schmeck's work during the late 1920's, the Wild Cat has never greatly impressed me. My first visit, in 1977, found a very small and fairly uninteresting park. The 1987 improvements were certainly helpful. But my visit on 6/19/00 found a glorious traditional park. I loved it. It's beautifully landscaped, filled with good rides and good food, reasonably priced, and offers one my new top 5 coasters. The Boulder Dash was just incredible! The Wild Cat still left me cold, but Boulder Dash really surprised me. I have never ridden a coaster that seemed to run that fast for that long. I must congratulate Lake Compounce on a fabulous addition! Go to the next page for pictures from my visit to Six Flags New England. Also, visit my Trip Report Pages for more photos and information.

The Boulder Dash may be an out and back coaster, but with approximately 11 curves in the track, I would not consider it to be a coaster that really travels in a straight line. While usually no fan of out and backs, this coaster is one that defies all the typical stereotypes! I think it's everything the Beast tried and wanted to be. The terrain, the wooded setting, the incredible speed, intensity, and the continuous out of control ride just makes this ride a real winner for me!
