We had a fantastic (albeit quick) trip! We flew out of San Antonio, thru Houston, to LA, then on to Guangzhou, China. Left San Antonio on Friday afternoon, August 28th, and arrived in Guangzhou Sunday, August 30th, at 7 a.m. Spent the rest of Sunday exploring the White Swan and nearby shopping! Monday was Gotcha Day! We were driven to Jiangmen to the orphanage, and also did paperwork that day in Jiangmen as well as Guangzhou. On Tuesday we got Kaitlyn's visa photos taken and got her medical exam done. On Wednesday, we received her Chinese passport and adoption paperwork, and picked up her medical exam paperwork. Thursday was our appointment at the U.S. Consulate for her visa. Friday was departure day--we picked up her visa at 3 p.m., and our flight home left Guangzhou at 7:30 p.m. that same evening (September 4th). We arrived at LA at 5:00 p.m. that same day (thanks to the International Date Line). The immigration and customs folks couldn't have been any nicer! After spending the night at the Wyndham Hotel near the LA airport, we flew to Houston and catch our connection to San Antonio. An in-flight emergency occurred (the flaps got stuck) and we had to return to Houston! Nothing like seeing the fire trucks and ambulances chase your plane down the runway! What a story we will have to tell Kaitlyn when she's a bit older! They fix the plane, we finally get airborne, and we arrive in San Antonio only about 2 1/2 hours late on Saturday afternoon. Get our luggage, retrieve our car, and drive the 200 miles home! Finally we are home with our precious daughter! Only one week and one day after leaving home.
Kaitlyn has just turned one year old, and is a delight! Attached are some photos of our trip and since our homecoming.
