The Eastern Korean province of Ururun selected Daisaku Ikeda for a Special
Certificate of Commeration. He is the first foreigner to receive this honour.
The master of the awards ceremony, Mr. Chon Syonte stated, "Mr Ikeda's grand
ideas and philosophy have profoundly influenced me. He is establishing an upright
history of respect for human beings. Mr Ikeda has contributed to actualize the
highest ideals for the prosperity of all human races. Therefore, I take this
opportune meeting to give this award to Mr Ikeda."
Then the Director of
Korea SGI said, "We will lay the foundation for the way of human justice based on
the spirit of Buddhist compassion. And to realize the prosperity and happiness of
all peoples. We have the highest ideal and desire to advance peace based on the
way of culture and education and respect for human life.
The people of Ururun province of Eastern Korea including nearby Ururun
Island, are good hearted farming peoples. Korea is a nation of great culture, and a
brother to Japan. From heart to heart exchange, creating eternal friendship.
Pusan University, at the gateway to Korea, also conferred an Certificate of
Appreciate to Daisaku Ikeda as the founder of Soka University. Pusan
University,
founded in 1946, with the ideals of "Integrity and Freedom" and "The spirit of
scholarship", has as its goal, "Raise capable people who can contribute to
society"
This Certificate of Appreciation is awarded to Daisaku Ikeda in appreciation
for his contribution advancing a profound philosophy for education and
culture.
Seikyo Shimbun 1/10/98 City of Buchon, Korea, Award to Daisaku Ikeda
The Council of Buchon confers a certificate or commendation and a key of
the city to SGI President Ikeda citing his contribution for amicable
relationships between Korea and Japan.
Korea SGI General Director Mr Jae Il Park delivered here the certificate and
the key awarded by the council of Buchon, Korea to MR Ikeda. The
conferment cermony was held during Korea SGI Headquarters Meeting last
December of 1997 and Mr Gan Gin Lee, the council president presented the
award to Mr Park on behalf of Mr Ikeda.
The city of Buchon, one of 8 largest cities of Kora, is a neighboring city of
Seoul and is considered to be a city with a bright future for its dramatic
growth in recent years.
All 50 council members agreed to the commendation for Mr Ikeda fo his
global contributions in areas of peace culture and education. Praising SGI
President hor his ongoing worldwide peace promoting activities, the
certificate reads, "In honour of your tremendous services as a diplomat of
people for amicable relationship between Korea and Japan". The golden key
(3.75 x 10 inches) has engraved upon it , "May the SGI movement be
prosperous".
