REVIEWS BY THE FANS

L.A. Guns Concert Review click here for a very cool review of the Feb '97 Billboard Live show !

Filthy Lucres' new CD update (as posted (and reviewed) by Mitch in the AOL folder...Mitch can be reached at: AngelOfAce@aol.com ! Thanks Mitch).......I just got the new Phil Lewis cd. His new band is called "Filthy Lucre". The album is called "Popsmear". The album sounds like LAG's "Vicious Circle" , "Hollywood Vampires" and "Cuts" mixed together. I guess you can tossed a guy out of a band, but you can't toss the band out of a guy. This is album sounds a lot like old LAG... like Phil never left!! The good thing about this cd is that we now get two LAGs (new LAG with Ralph and old LAG with Phil.). Anyhow, I recommend this cd to any old LAG fans... you should really like it....
Songs include:
1)Ariata
2)Outta Control
3)Black Cadillac
4)Baby I Want You
5)Hollywood (be thy name)
6)Milk My Honey
7)Brand New Deal
8)SuckSex
9)Can't Kick
10)Let's Do Lunch (Japanese Bonus Track)
11)Ladbroke Groove

REVIEW of the Billboard Live show 8/1/97:
By Mark Thompson (GEELAGOO@AOL.COM)
At 6:00 this evening I met up with LA GUNS tour manager Jeff and he introduced me to Tracii Guns, Ralph Saenz, and Johnny Crypt who make up 3/4 of this reborn band. Missing was drummer Steve Riley, but all I said to Tracii was "Hi, How are things going?" and we did an interview for over an hour. That interview will be coming later on down the line, but from talking with the guys, I was convinced that tonight's show at Billboard Live was
going to be one for the books. They had a newfound level of confidence with the recent addition of Ralph to the vocal department. There is a high level of hype circulating around the resurgence of rock, LA GUNS in particular.
Tonight the gunners open up with that old standard sing along, SHOW NO MERCY. They attack the stage in a fashion not seen too often in the days of alternative whine and self-pity. They follow with ONE MORE REASON. They quickly jump to the swinging blues of KISS MY LOVE GOODBYE and everybody begins to feel the power and good times that rock n' roll used to bring to our souls. Ralph exudes that rare level of Roth meets Bach showmanship that has been forgotten recently. Tracii has that Cheshire cat who just ate the canary smile on his face. He seems so genuinely happy to be playing and it shows by the smiles he brings to our faces. Ralph soon straps on the guitar for the 'cliché' ballad that took them to the top 10. I would have loved to hear the thrash version of THE BALLAD OF JANE, but I also enjoy them not forgetting their musical past. Tracii gives a little guitar ditty before they launch into the heavy Sabbath vibe that is OVER THE EDGE from the Hollywood Vampires album.
The band really begins to loosen up on stage and teases us with BRING IT ON HOME from the mighty Led Zeppelin before they play their first single ever, SEX ACTION. This is the song that first brought them to my attention. But this song disappears after the solo and into Van Halen's AINT TALKIN' BOUT LOVE. And no, they are not doing this for the obvious reason; I saw them do this opening for Iron Maiden almost ten years ago. Now is when they put Ralph to the test with the American Hardcore song, GIVE. He quickly puts all of the doubting Thomases to silence with his abilities. During the center grind break, the band begins to circle the stage like an angry Chumash tribe. But they are having a good time doing this. Next is another crowd pleaser, ELECTRIC GYPSY. This song has a memorable chorus that keeps you singing along. They then close out with another AH number, WHAT I'VE BECOME and the crowd favorite, RIP n TEAR. They encore with the heavy HUGS n NEEDLES and the ultra melodic NEVER ENOUGH.
There should not have been a person in Billboard Live who left disappointed. If you did, then you have fallen victim to what society has labeled "cool." Remember that the music during the 80's was based on having a good time and escaping from the routine daily activities that made your life a bore. Rock is coming back and LA GUNS is proof that you can have a good time and play music! I left knowing that this band, through many recent
changes, has survived. And I am proud to know that I was there!
