Little Jimmy was laying about on a hillock in the middle of a
meadow on a warm spring day. Puffy white clouds rolled by and he
pondered their shape. Soon, he began to think about God.

"God? Are you really there?" Jimmy said out loud.

To his astonishment a voice came from the clouds. "Yes, Jimmy?
What can I do for you?"

Seizing the opportunity, Jimmy asked, "God? What is a million
years like to you?"

Knowing that Jimmy could not understand the concept of infinity,
God responded in a manner to which Jimmy could relate. "A
million years to me, Jimmy, is like a minute."

"Oh," said Jimmy. "Well, then, what's a million dollars like to
you?"

"A million dollars to me, Jimmy, is like a penny."

"Wow!" remarked Jimmy, getting an idea. "You're so generous...
can I have one of your pennies?"

God replied, "Sure thing, Jimmy! Just a minute."

We were having my husbands favorite dinner, liver and onions last night. Well to say the least it is not my kids favorite, but they will eat it. My daughter proudly anounnced that she had finished all her liver. When my 13yr.old son poped up and told her " I'm and organ doner you can have mine." It was a good try but it didn't quite make it. We all had a good laugh.

I love your site....so refreshing....delightful...happy....a true edifying
experience...
I do the church bulletin and have used some of the excerpts from your site
to add a little Smile...

Here is something for you.....

My 4 yr old grandson, Justin, was up at the front of the church when the
pastor called the kids up and was telling them the story of Mary, Joseph
and baby Jesus. He got to the part and said "Mary had baby Jesus". Justin
interrupted.."Huh-uh" The pastor said "Yes, Justin, Mary had baby Jesus."
Justin, "No, Mary had a little lamb". My son and daughter-in-law were
about to die from not breathing because they had no idea what he was going
to say and then were so relieved that this was his answer.

This same little Justin, was at the house visiting and I told him to go ask
Papa if he needed anything from the store..."Papa do you need us to bring
you back anything from the store?" Papa "Yes, bring me back some peace and
quiet"
Justin came running in and I said "What did Papa say?" Justin,"He said
bring him back a piece and be quiet". My husband and I both cracked up and
then my husband said "Yeah, that'lll work too!"
Love you...Gay

Giant Ding Dong Cake

Cake

1package devil's food cake mix
1 small package chocolate instant pudding
4 eggs
1 ¼ cups water
½ cup oil

Filling

4 T flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Glaze

1 cup chocolate chips
¼ cup shortening
3 tablespoons corn syrup
2 ¼ tablespoons water

Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour a DEEP round pan. (10" springform works, smaller diameter would be even better.) Combine all cake ingredients and mix well. Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick tests clean. Let the cake cool.

Carefully slice off the top 1/2 inch of the cake and set aside. Scoop out the inside of the cake to 1/2 inch of the sides and save for another use. To make the filling, combine the milk and flour and heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. (It will be very thick.) Cool the flour milk mixture completely. Beat the remaining ingredients on high speed for 4 minutes. Add cooled flour-milk mixture and beat an additional 4 minutes. Spoon into center
of cake. Replace the top.

Heat the glaze ingredients in a double boiler. Heat until melted, stirring. Slowly pour the glaze over the top of the cake. Smooth a little of the glaze over the sides. Refrigerate to set.

Chicken and Rice Casserole

1 Chicken, quartered
2 cups Cooked Rice
1 Tbs. Butter or Margarine
1/2 cup Onion, chopped
1/2 cup Celery, chopped
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
6-oz. can Mushroom Pieces, drained
8-oz. Fat-Free Sour Cream
1 Tbs. Fresh Parsley, chopped
1/8 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/8 tsp. Marjoram
2 Tbs. Sesame Seeds (optional)

Pre-heat oven to 350-F degrees and bake chicken pieces in a 9-inch by 13-inch baking or roasting pan for about an hour, checking and turning occasionally.

Remove chicken from the oven and let cool until you can comfortably handle it to remove the skin and de-bone it. Cut into small, bite-size pieces. Return the chicken pieces to the baking pan, making sure to leave just a bit of grease to prohibit sticking during baking.

Meanwhile, prepare the rice as directed on the package to produce 2 cups of cooked rice, and add the cooked rice to the chicken pieces in the baking pan.

Sauté the onion and celery in a skillet over medium heat, utilizing the tablespoon of butter or margarine to soften the vegetables slightly. When onions are translucent, transfer the mixture to the baking pan with the rice and the chicken.

Add cream of chicken soup (without any extra water), mushroom pieces, sour cream, fresh parsley, garlic powder, and marjoram to the chicken and rice in the baking pan, and use a wooden spoon or spatula to thoroughly combine all ingredients.

Sprinkle the top of the casserole with the sesame seeds, if desired. Bake in the same 350-F degree oven for about an hour. Serve warm.

Welcome to all my new Readers...
Thank YOU for joining sMiLeS from KaThy!!!
I hope that all of you had a nice summer as it's almost over.
School starts here in Southern California September 8th.
I'm not ready for the shorter days yet, but I am getting tired
of the hot weather.....as it's been over 100 degrees for the past
week now. I just came back from a GREAT vacation with my
family. We spent a week on the beach in Mexico. We had a lot
of fun and it was very relaxing. I am truly a tan California Gal now... :o}
We layed in the sun, swam in the pools, went horseback riding along
the beach, rode quads in the sand, went down water slides, watched the fireworks show at night, built sand castles, flew kites, shopped, ate
good Mexican food, went to the evening shows, stayed up late, slept in,
laughed, shared, and had a wonderful time.....
In my August Newsletter I had a section where I asked you what state
you were from.......yikes, after over 1,000 emails I had to go in and take
that question out of there.....I couldn't keep up with the mail. But, to those
of you who responded I sincerely Thank YOU.....you are the GREATEST!
I have not had the time to compile all of your responses yet.....sorry!
I promise to list the results in my next newsletter. I can tell you though
that the states with the highest number of readers are: Florida, Texas,
New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, and California.
Many of you send me email requesting me to keep up my newsletter sites longer than a month, as you go back often to visit. To do this, I had to go
from weekly newsletters to monthly to prevent running out of web space.
Well, after publishing this months newsletter, I am out of web space.
Before I do an October newsletter I will have to do something....
I have two choices. I can delete some of my older sites or I can delete
my two awards pages......these seem to be my only options.
So I am asking that you please understand when I have to delete
some of my web sites.

I have tried in the past to answer each email personally to thank you for your sweet email. But, if you check the counters on my pages, you will realize as I have come to, that this has become an impossible task to keep up with. I love to receive your email, but due to the large volume of mail I get, please understand if I do not personally get back to you. Let this little thank you note remind you of just how much your Friendship means to me! Thank You so much for sharing a part of my heart with me each time you visit one of my web sites! Hugs & Smiles, Kathy ((~.~))
Have a GREAT Labor Day Weekend....!!!!!
Be Safe & Have Fun..!

Do you know what Hope is?

It's magic and it's free
It's not in a prescription
It's not in an IV.
It punctuates our laughter,
It sparkles in our tears.
It simmers under sorrows,'
And disipates our fears.
Do you know what Hope is?
It's reaching past today,
It's dreaming of tomorrow,
It's trying a new way.
It's pushing past impossible
It's pounding on the door,
It's always seeking more.
It's rumors of a break
It's whispers of a cure
A roller coaster ride
Of remedies, unsure.
Do you know what Hope is?
It's candy for the soul,
It's perfume for the spirit,
To share it, makes you Whole
Take my hand...come...let's share this hope together.

A Childs Love!

You have given to me the precious gift of life,
And a wonderful place for me to call my home.
But most of all, you have freely given to me,
The greatest unconditional love, I've ever known.

I feel blessed having been born out of your love,
For you wanting me, without knowing who I'd be.
And now you know who I am, not a day has past,
When I have ever felt that you did not want me.

Without me ever needing to ask for it from you,
You've always been right here for me over the years.
Sharing in so many smiles, as you have felt my joy,
And comforting me in sorrow, wiping away my tears.

You have taught me so much over the many years,
Some I was too young to remember, but lots I do.
But those not remembered, are still part of me,
And I've become who I am today, because of you.

Although I am "my own person", an individual,
I'm thankful that so much of you lives inside me.
If I'd been able to choose my own personality traits,
It would have been yours, that I wanted them to be.

I just want you to know how much I do love you,
And have appreciated everything you have ever done.
I could not have asked for a more special parent,
As in my heart, you will forever be, my number ONE!

All I Ever Really Needed To Know
I Learned In Kindergarten

Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why , but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: Look. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and sane living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nations to always put things back where found them and cleaned up our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is better to hold hands and stick together.

Your Friendship

I am writing this to tell you,
All you are to me.
You are my best friends,
And will be eternally.

You've stuck with me through thick and thin,
Never letting go.
You carried me when I was weak.
You made my life begin to flow.

I know you'd never even think,
To try to let me down.
You always want a smile
So I never hold a frown.

You can never be replaced,
I hold you deep within my heart.
Thanks for always being there,
I know we'll never part.
(Ramsy)

Thank You For Being My Friend

Thank you for believing in me when
I found it difficult to believe in myself...
for saying what I've needed to hear sometimes,
instead of what I've wanted to hear....
for siding with me....
and for giving me another side to consider.
Thank you for opening yourself up to me....
for trusting me with your thoughts and disappointments and dreams....
for knowing you can depend on me
and for asking my help when you've needed it.
Thank you for putting so much thought
and care and imagination into our friendship...
for sharing so many nice times,
and making so many special memories with me.
Thank you for always being honest with me...
being kind to me...
being there for me.
Thank you for being a friend to me
in so many meaningful ways.
I love you !!!

We love the sound of laughter
And the merriment of cheer,
But our hearts would lose
their tenderness
If we never shed a tear.

Today appreciate the importance of
both laughter and tears.

Love is not kissing or holding hands.
It is, rather, the holding of hearts.
It is the commitment of mind, body, and soul.
It is the commitment of future.
It is sharing the present in a way that makes life worth feeling.
Love is more than the word.
Love, true love, is protecting the heart and hopes of two people
without fear,
with pride,
and dignity,
and respect.

" A SMILE costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the memory of
it sometimes lasts forever."

May you not become too concerned with material matters,
but instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see beauty and love in the world around you.

Do all the good you can
By all the means you can
In all the ways you can
In all the places you can
To all the people you can
For as long as ever you can...
(John Wesley)
When God measures a man, He puts the tape measure
around the heart instead of the head.

Little Things In Life

Too often we don't realize
what we have until it is gone;
Too often we wait too late to say
"I'm sorry - I was wrong."

Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones
we hold dearest to our hearts;
And we allow foolish things to tear our lives apart.

Far too many times we let
unimportant things into our minds;
And then it's usually too late
to see what made us blind.

So be sure that you let people know
how much they mean to you;
Take the time to say the words
before your time is through.

Be sure that you appreciate
everything you've got
And be thankful for the Little Things
in life that mean a lot.

Attitude

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than the past, than education, than
money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what
other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance,
giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude
we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot
change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change
the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to
me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge
of our attitudes."

MOMMY BRAIN

If you've left the crayons to melt in the car,
And forgotten just where the car keys are,
There's a perfectly good way to explain:
You see, you've come down with "Mommy Brain."

When you're not sure where the past 8 hours went,
Or whether the phone bill check's been sent,
If you've left the laundry drying in the rain,
It's just--you guessed it--Mommy Brain.

If you find yourself chatting for hours on end
About diaper prices with your cyberfriends,
You've just caught a particularly virulent strain
Of that affliction known as Mommy Brain.

If you left your bags at the grocery store
Or completely forgot what you went there for,
If you called the cat by your baby's name,
You can bet that Mommy Brain's to blame.

And if you know the words to "Goodnight Moon" by heart,
Or you study your sleeping babe like a work of art,
If you're always surprised by how time is flying,
And the thought of that first birthday starts you crying.....

It's unavoidable girls, and I feel your pain,
For I, too, suffer from Mommy Brain.
But I'll admit one thing--of this I'm sure:
I hope they never find a cure.

Friendship

F is for the funny things you say that make me smile.
R is for the radiant way you light up my life.
I is for the intelligence that you have shown you possess.
E is for the excellence you strive for each and every day.
N is for the nice things you say and do.
D is for the daring things that you say once in awhile.
S is for the way you selfishlessly give of yourself.
H is for your helping way I know I can count on.
I is for the interesting things you share with me.
P is for the passion you have for life.

All of these letters represent a quality that I believe you possess...

You Should Know
I just thought you should know
just how much it means to me
to have you in my life.
Can you tell
how wonderful I think you are?
Or how many times a day
I think of you?
Or how I feel
whenever I look forward
to being in your arms?
Can you read my mind?
Can you see into my heart
and know how special you are to me?
If I ever imagined
someone perfect,
to share my life and love,
that someone would be you.
I JUST THOUGHT
YOU SHOULD KNOW

FRIENDSHIP

If there is one ingredient in which adds, warmth and love to our lives,
it is friendship.

If there is one relationship to help us through all the others, it is
friendship.

Friends surround us with the beauty of their caring.

With friends we can share what we see, what we feel, and what we love.

Friends help us with our problems because they listen.
And as they listen we begin to hear the language for our own hearts.

With friends we can walk along the remembered paths of our lives and
completely share our experiences.

With friends we can work the soil of forgotten dreams that needed to be
tended and nurtured once again.

With friends we can plant the seed of our hearts and new dreams.

We can always return to a friend like going back to a special place and
find the same warm feeling unchanged by time or distance.

Life gives us friends so we can share the precious times and memorable
moments of being children, teenagers, adults, parents, and grandparents.

Life gives us friends so we can share the growing up and growing down
and growing old.

With friends we have a place to go to be accepted and understood.

Together we can laugh.
Together we can cry.

Our thoughts are heard, our feelings are held in the heart of a friend.

With friends our lives are made more full, more rich, more open
beautiful, and blessed

I cannot ease your aching heart,
Nor take your pain away,
But let me stay and take your hand
And walk with you today.
I'll listen when you need to talk,
I'll wipe away your tears,
I'll share your worries when they come,
I'll help you face your fears.
I'm here and I will stand by you,
Each hill you have to climb.
So take my hand, let's face the world ~
Live one day at a time.
You're not alone, for I'm still here...
I'll go that extra mile.
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!

My Little Prayer

Every evening
laying here in bed
This little prayer running
through my head

God bless my mom and dad
and bless my little child
please take care of my spouse
when he's out on that long ride....

God there's one more little thing
I hope that you can do
hope you don't mind me askin'
'PLEASE' bless my puter too?

I know that it's not normal
to bless a mother board
but listen just a second
I'll explain to you, "LORD"

You see, that little metal box
holds more than odds and ends
inside those small components
live hundreds of my 'FRIENDS'

Some it's true I've never seen
and most I've never met
we've never shaken hands
or shared a smile as yet...

I know for sure they like me
by the kindnesses that they give
and this little scrap of metal
is how I get to where they live.

By faith is how I know them
much the same as I know you
I share what life does bring them
from that our friendships grew.

'PLEASE' take an extra minute
from your duties up above...
to bless this hunk of metal
that's filled with so much love.

Beautiful Treasure
From a Childs perspective

"LITTLE EYE'S"

There are little eyes upon you
and they're watching night and day.
There are little ears that quickly
take in every word you say.

There are little hands all eager
to do everything you do.
And a little child who's dreaming
of the day they'll be like you.

You're the little child’s idol
you're the wisest of the wise.
In their little minds, about you
no suspicions ever rise.

They believe in you devoutly
holding all you say and do,
they will say and do in your way
when they've grown up just like you.

There's a wide-eyed little child
who believes you're always right
and their ears are always open
and they watch you day and night.

You are setting an example
everyday in all you do and say.
For there is a little child who's waiting
to grow up to be just like you.
