Howard was our first Cardigan and was truly the foundation for our love of the breed. We would never have come this far without him. He gave his all to everything he did and encouraged me to try new things. He was our first and will always be remembered as our finest.

These are some of Howard's activities throughout his long and eventful life. The first picture above is when he was awarded his second major for his AKC Championship. I didn't start showing Howard until he was almost a year old, and only showed him for "practice" until I could get a "real" show dog. Well, he showed his heart out and won!

The second picture was taken in 1996, when Howard was 10. He is shown winnning second place in Utility to earn his title. He earned his CD in 1988 and his CDX in 1989, and was ranked Nationally in the top 5 obedience Cardigans, Corgi Quarterly System 1988-1991, but his career had to be put on hold for a few years due to a spinal injury requiring extensive surgery and a long recuperation period during which we though we were going to lose him. But, he came back strong, nothing could stop him!

Now, the third picture is what Howard really liked to do! Howard earned six herding titles. He is shown above earning his Australian Shepherd Club of America's STD-s (Started Trial Dog-sheep) at the age of 11 and 1/2 in May of 1998 with a seond place win in a trial filled with experienced trial dogs!

In mid 1999, Howard became blind and deaf, but continued to enjoy life and brought joy and laughter to us every day. But a year later, toward the end of May 2000, he began refusing to eat. He became weaker and weaker. Not wanting his last days to be spent in misery, we decided to escort him to the Rainbow Bridge. The decision was hard, but in a way, it was very easy. We respected him enough to give him that final gift of peace. Rest well Howard, my best friend.
