A Klingon Battlecruiser from TOS - Faux??

This miniature of TOS Klingon Battlecruiser was on display at Planet Hollywood-Washington, DC during May 1996. Is this the Smithonian's original miniature, or a reproduction? Apparently, it's a reproduction. On August 20, 1997, a Smithsonian museum technician told me that it was not the original studio model.
