The USS Enterprise Arrives at the Smithsonian


TOS eleven-foot USS Enterprise miniature arrived at the NASM's Silver Hill restoration facility (renamed the Garber Facility in 1980) on February 28, 1974. Donated to the NASM by Paramount Television, it was shipped in three separate boxes, arriving with some shipping damage. In the photo below, note the missing engine nacelle glass hemispheres and the missing secondary hull sensor dish. These were later fabricated and replaced by the NASM renovators (see The IDIC Page - '74 Enterprise). The Tholian miniature can be seen on the table behind the Enterprise.

In the photo below, the Enterprise's wiring for its internal lighting can be seen dangling from the left side of the miniature. For this reason, the left side of the ship was never shown on television.
