STEREOTYPES
Join the Italian American One Voice
Coalition national activist network. This Network communicates with
individuals and organizations across the USA, Canada and other countries.
This coalition will keep abreast of
the onslaught against our heritage and culture. Working together and
speaking with One Voice against stereotyping of our people we will alert
you to ongoing situations which affect our dignity.
The Network goal is to bombard
offensive parties when Stereotypical in advertisements, TV Shows, movies,
newspapers, etc. are reported.
Using the internet, we hope to invite
and encourage you to send E-mails and letters when needed Write ,
phone and send faxes to those who mock Italian Americans. We will also let
you know when a person or company does something praiseworthy so that we
may thank them.
The power of the Internet is
vast, the potential of which has now been recognized and used extensively
the major political parties. We intend to improve our use of that power to
let those who disrespect our ethnicity know that we will no longer remain
silent in the face of abject defamatory.
If you truly care about righting
our negative image in American society we urge you to join our

''Untouchables'' revival sparks founding
of Italian
American One Voice Coalition
Oct. 12, 1993, SECAUCUS, N.J. --
More than 200 protesters from the Italian-American One Voice committee
staged a protest in front of WWOR-TV headquarters here.
Committee Chairman Dr. Manny Alfano said the One
Voice rally was protest against the continued negative ethnic
stereotyping by the media.
WWOR-TV 9 was chosen as the site for the rally
because the station telecasts ''The Untouchables'' TV series, Alfano said.
''Italian Americans are mad as hell and we're not going to take it
anymore.''
Despite a driving rain storm, the crowd was very
vocal in support of the One Voice project. ''The rain may have affected
the size of the demonstration,'' said Dr. Marco Bruno of the Center for
Italian Culture, ''but it did not dampen the crowd's enthusiasm.
The
One Voice committee is a coalition of organized Italian-American groups
(national and local) from the tri-state area who have joined the protest
against negative ethnic stereotyping of Italian and Italian-Americans, as
well as all ethnic groups, by the print and visual media.
Management of WWOR-TV 9 agreed to meet with One
Voice members about their concerns. Representing One Voice were Alfano,
Renato Biribin of UNICO National, Angelo Bianchi of Order of the Sons of
Italy, and Tom Piasio of Italian-American Association of the Township of
Ocean.
- WWOR-TV 9 would allow the One
Voice committee to give its opinions about negative media stereotyping
via its VIEWPOINT segments.
- WWOR-TV 9 agreed to work with One
Voice to set up a meeting with Paramount Pictures which produces "The
Untouchables" to discuss their concerns.
- WWOR-TV 9 will explore ways to
accommodate both sides with the contract that exists between WWOR-TV 9
and Paramount.
- WWOR-TV 9 agreed to allow for
community input for future programs.
- WWOR-TV 9 further agreed to assist
in developing positive programs in the future.
A One
Voice representative expressed concern that while the meeting with
management was very positive, the committee hopes the discussion will
ultimately lead to positive action.
The
''rally today is just the beginning,'' Alfano said. Future rallies are
planned not only against the media, but also against the sponsors who
support this type of programming.

Honor
WWII Hero Sgt. John Basilone
APPRECIATION FOR HONORING SGT. JOHN BASILONE
Bloomfield New Jersey - August
27, 2004
Doctor Emanuele Alfano, Executive Director of The
Italian American One Voice Coalition took great pride today in applauding
the long over due recognition of World War II hero John Basilone who was
the recipient of the Congressional medal of honor, the Navy Cross, a
Bronze Star and a Purple heart.
Sgt. Basilone was
honored with a commemorative postage stamp. This great honor
to one of America's supreme heroes is the culmination of a 5 year effort
by Mr. Peter Ippolito of Union N.J. who originated the drive and Doctor
Emanuele Alfano of Bloomfield, N.J. who was highly prominent in the long
crusade for the honor to be bestowed on the favorite New Jersey son
from the town of Raritan.
Dr. Alfano offered his most sincere
appreciation to Peter Ippolito, Congressman William Pascrell Jr., UNICO
National, OSIA, NIAF, Veteran groups and to all others whose unyielding
efforts finally persuaded the Postal Service to confer the well
deserved
recognition to the heroic Marine who was respectfully called
"a one man army" by General MacArthur.
