BOND:11-2-01
A relative of my wife's, Joseph Dickinson Bond, was born 1832 Edenton,
Chowan, NC and returned to Edenton with his spinster daughter, Matilda
Penelope (Tillie) Bond, after having been a Baptist Minister in Georgia and
Alabama. I do not know where in GA or AL, and I do not know his wife's name
or when Tillie was born.
Tillie was the last member of the family to live in the 1758 Cupola House,
where her four spinster aunts had spent their entire lives, and became so
impoverished that she sold the interior of the house, which is now in the
Brooklyn Museum. Tillie's grandmother, Penelope Barker Dickinson, was named
for her great aunt, Penelope Barker, organiser of the Edenton Tea Party,
the first political action by women in America.
Having found a marriage record in Jefferson County for Joseph D Bond &
Susan A F Todd on October 15, 1854, I am wondering if this might be his
marriage.
Is there any Baptist church in Jefferson County that might have records to
show if they had a Minister of this name in the middle of the nineteenth century?
John Collins

BROWN:10-21-01
My g.g.g.grandfather, Francis Brown, is, I believe, the same Francis Brown that lived in Jefferson Co. GA between 1794 and 1805. I believe he was from NC before going to GA, as his first two children were supposed to have been born there (evidence but no proof). I have never been able to connect him to any other Browns in the county, and it's possible he was there with inlaws, names unknown, although one author did say he thought Francis' wife was a Spiers. I've never found any evidence of that, though. We will soon have a Y-chromosome DNA profile that I would love to compare to the DNA profile of any other Brown from Jefferson Co. If you descend down a straight patrilineal path of Jefferson Co. Browns,
AFter Francis BROWN left Jefferson Co., he showed up c. 1817 in Lawrence Co. MS. In MS, he was near THIGPENS and TARVERS, and other family names I have seen in Jefferson Co. queries. Any connections? please contact me. Connee

GAMBLE:10-21-01
I have traced my Gamble family line back to my gggg grandfather who is listed on the Jackson County, AL census as Mitchell Gamble (whose son was Thomas). Mitchell was born in 1812 or 1813 in Georgia. From other information gathered, I believe he was born in Jefferson County, GA and later traveled to TN and then on to AL. In Alabama, William Gamble and Burgess Gamble who were also born in GA, lived near Mitchell and were probably his brothers or other relatives. Any information that might help me learn more about this Gamble line from Jefferson County, GA would be appreciated. Debbie

27 years old at the time of that Census, and the age discrepency a
mistake of some sort? The John A. Guin in the Jefferson County Census,

LIVINGSTON:10-2-01
I am a volunteer genealogist (registrar) for a Sons of the American Revolution chapter in Virginia. I am working with an applicant for
membership whose ancestors came from Jefferson County, GA. The g-g-grandfather was Joseph M.Livingston whose father was William
Livingston. But, we need proof that William was in fact Joseph's father. William died in 1840. Joseph is among the males shown in William
Livingsston's household in the 1830 and 1840 census for Jefferson County. Unfortunately, only the head of household was named in the
censuses before 1850. What we need is William's will, or short of that, an appraisal of his estate and a settlement of his estate which shows
his heirs getting their fair share. William's wife's maiden name was Rachel Vining. She died in 1848. Perhaps she had a will, or there was
an appraisal and disbursement of her estate. Can anyone in Jefferson County help? Bob Bowen, Registrar, Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter,
Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution.Bob Bowen
