Do you remember when you were in your final two years of MPHS and you were forced to make many difficult decisions concerning career choices? You visited colleges, pondered many different majors, spent a few years in college, and then had to make the ultimate decision about how to apply your degree(s) to an actual career. Did you wish you had a mentor to assist you with these difficult decisions along the way?

The MPHS Alumni Association believes that we can assist students in this area, knowing that we have the alumni resources in our database to put together an effective Alumni Mentoring Program.

What we would like to do is very simple and will utilize the Internet for what it was designed for . . . communication. We would like to see MPHS alumni of all ages and backgrounds volunteer their knowledge, expertise, and an occasional few minutes of precious time to help current MPHS juniors, seniors and young fellow alumni who are presently in colleges and universities.

Alumni bios or profiles include the following information:
1.) Your name
2.) State or country (if not the US)
3.) MPHS Graduation year
4.) Favorite course(s) and interests in high school
5.) College(s)
6.) Majors, minors, degrees, masters, Ph.D.s
7.) Past and present employment since college
8.) Job description
9.) Question: If you could do high school/college over again, what would you do differently?
10.) Contact me via: (email preferably)

You may print out a form containing the above format and return it to us by clicking here.

MPHS students will browse through the different bios and select an alumnus to contact via e-mail, who seems to have similar interests and/or is in a career that fascinates the student.

The results of such a mentoring program could be absolutely invaluable to students!

It is a win/win situation for:

1.) The High School itself. While not everyone is "college material", there are a number that do not even pursue college because they are unsure about which direction to go. The High School desires that their students realize their full potential. Teachers and the administration want to see their investments (the students), succeed in the real world.
2.) The student. He/she may be thoroughly confused about the difficult college choices. Sometimes the only one who can help in this area is a person who has gone through the process. In today's job market, the student needs as much help as possible to make correct choices.
3.) The parents. Parents may only be able to help to a point. Colleges, majors, and the job market have changed dramatically since they went to school. Financially, it is very important to parents that their teen make the correct choices, rather than wasting time and money in a semester or two of an incorrect major selection.
4.) You, the alumnus. If you can just help ONE student, you may have effected one's entire life. You will then have the satisfaction of really helping someone in need. There are no costs involved . . . just some of your time. If you wished that someone had given you this type of assistance when you were young, you now have the opportunity to offer it to someone today.

Give this some thought!

Leave us e-mail if you would like to discuss this further.
