Our beginnings...
(updated on 01/11/02)

In the fall of 1997, the Midland Park High School celebrated the 40th anniversary of the school's founding in 1957. Special activities occurred during the week of Thanksgiving, not only to celebrate the anniversary, but also to introduce a new organization, the MPHS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC.

Concept:
Until now, Midland Park has never organized its alumni records all under one roof, namely that of an alumni association. Many school systems enjoy the benefits of such organizations. Over forty years have passed since the founding of the high school located on Prospect Street. Our fellow classmates have scattered from coast to coast, but those fun years of our youth and the memories of Midland Park High still reside in each of us. It is now time to draw us all together in a very unique and appropriate way. . . the MPHS Alumni Association!

Purposes:
The new MPHS Alumni Association, Inc. will function as most alumni organizations do.
1.) It will assist the school with out-of-budget projects to help ensure the quality of education at MPHS.
2.) It will support deserving seniors with scholarships.
3.) It will maintain records of all alumni for future events.
4.) It will produce a newsletter to keep all informed of alumni events, alumni accomplishments, high school happenings, etc.

Benefits:
When the records from classes 1959 to present are organized into one database, individual class reunion committees will have a much easier job planning their events. Upon request, the Alumni Association will provide labels for reunion mailings. Alumni will be contacted twice a year with either the alumni newsletter (members) or a postcard address verification notice (non-members), so the association's files will be as current as humanly possible. By using the Postal Service's "Return Service Requested" on our mailings, mail will not be forwarded to you, but will be returned to us with the corrected address on it. So, with each mailing, we know if you exist or have disappeared.

Funding:
Primarily the organization is supported by personal donations. A minimum donation of $15.00 annually, covers the cost of producing a quality newsletter for donaters and an address verification postcard mailing for all alumni. We feel that the $15.00 amount is certainly affordable by most alumni. Our Scholarship Program is funded by special fundraising events and donations. Since the organization is run totally by volunteers, there are no administration costs.  The association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, so all donations to us are tax deductible.

Projects:
William Freeman, the High School principal in 1997, initiated the starting events in the fall of 1997. He combined the concept of launching the association with a unique project on the school grounds. He began plans for an "Alumni and Veteran Garden & Walkway." The new Alumni Association has now taken over on that project. The Garden and Walkway will be a brick paved walkway surrounded by beautiful landscaping, located at the southwest corner of the high school. The project will be totally paid for by the selling of inscribed bricks to MPHS Alumni & Veterans, and will be separate from any scholarship funds. You can find out more information on the Garden & Walkway and how to obtain a brick order form by clicking the two links. It is our hope that a large percentage of alumni will take an interest in this project and make it a success!

Our immediate needs:
To make this organization effective, we need everyones' help! We have started the database needed to organize the 40 plus years of alumni records and have an approximate 3200 records to date. We have a long way to go before we can effectively reach the approximate 5,000 graduates of Midland Park High School. If you can help us, please contact the MPHS Alumni Association, Inc. via e-mail, the phone numbers or address below. We are especially looking for class officers or those that took it on themselves to form reunion committees If you know who these persons are, have them contact us ASAP. We also need people to volunteer for various committees that will be needed very soon. These will include scholarship, newsletter, event and fundraising committees. If you want to get directly involved and make things happen, let us know!
