There is nothing like the smell and feel of the ground pounding, fire breathing machines that are Drag Racing. From the Sportsman ranks to the Nitromethane burning, 6000 horsepower Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters a NHRA or an IHRA National Event is not to be missed. The 2000 season of the fastest and quickest motorsport has just ended, be sure to check back here for what's happening during the off season. I usually attend the national events at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ and Maple Grove Raceway in Reading PA. In 99 I was in Richmond for the Pennzoil Nationals, and this year I attended the Gatornationals at Gainesville, FL. Check the NHRA and IHRA sites for all the latest news as the teams gear up for the 2001 season.
I took this photo at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading PA during the 1997 Pioneer Keystone Nationals. I took this photo of Mark Oswald during qualifying, that's Jerry Caminito in the background. Look here soon for more photos.
Summit Racing also has a great web site that updates the results from all NHRA and IHRA events. Also for other motorsports and drag news be sure to look Drag racing- Heads Up Review by Michael Ray and the Drag Racing List Online "Drag Racing's Complete Reference." Be sure to check out Funny Car driver Dean Skuza's web page, Dean is a great guy and a future champion. Three time NHRA TF champion Gary Scelzi also has a web site. Two of my Online friends have pages check out Matt Madsen's Vanilla Motor Sports page, and my friend Debbie's Home Page. Feel the need to either go racing with your car or just watch some racing to find the drag strip closest to you check out the Dragstrip Finder.
And then though it is not drag racing, I have attended NASCAR races, Five at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon NH, and two Daytona 500's , and one at both Bristol Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway. Every since I was young I can remember watching the Dayton 500 on TV. I always said I wanted to see the 500. I got my chance when a friend of mine had an extra ticket.
I have even attended the Richard Petty Driving Experience and did the Ride Along program. On October 31, 1999 I went over 165 MPH in a Winston Cup stock car at Daytona. Then on April 20, 2000 I did it again at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. They strap you in the passengers side of a WC car and take you on a 3 lap trip around the track. It was incredible.
