Who would want to use MacVision:
MacVision is a program that is made for everyone and anyone who has ever been dissatisfied
with Windows Explorer. MacVision helps you use your computer in a more friendly way, and
even lets you see it with a more unique and eye pleasing look.
What this program does is something that no other program has done, and it's coming and
brought nothing but praise from Mac users. Mac users, stuck on PC's. Forced to use PC's
every day because they have them either at home or at work, they are more familiar with
the user friendly system of the MacOS, and don't like the strange and often confusing
workings of Windows. Now, the time has come where they can feel at home on their PC
when they can't be on their Mac.
Exactly what does MacVision do?
MacVision adds a replica of the MacOS8 Finder (The Finder is to the MacOS as Explorer is
to Windows.) to your Windows system. Note that this is not just a screenshot of a Mac
Finder, but a fully functional, very dynamic program that allows you do work just like you
were on a Mac.
Not only does MacVision provide the functionality of a Mac, but it can even trick you into
thinking you are really using a Mac! The Graphical User Interface (GUI) on Macs has always
been know to be better looking, and overall easier to use. Now, with MacVision's interface
emulation, you can experience the MacOS GUI in Windows. MacVision changes not only
the way the frames/borders of your windows look, but also everything from push buttons and
radio buttons to check boxes, progress bars to scrollbars, and even more support will be
added in the future.
Development Details: MacVision is
being programmed by me, Jeff Bargmann, in the extremely powerful C / C++ language.
The program's development began in the Spring of 1998, and has been available for public
testing since the beginning of 1999. Since the first widespread private beta in
early October 1998, the tools available to me have become more advanced, and my knowledge
in programming and the Windows API / infrastructure has been expanded beyond what I ever could have immagined! I hope to pass this knowledge on to you, the user, by delivering accurate,
feature rich applications, that, most importantly, are stable! Stability of my
programs is, was, and always will be my first priority. This is why I need to thank my
beta testers for all their great work in helping me get MacVision ready for each release,
and getting bugs fixed.
Many have asked for future plans for MacVision, and here's what I have to say about that.
I believe the sky is the limit for MacVision's future, but over time. Nothing's going to
happen overnight. Adding large features and making sure they work flawlessly takes a long
time, and since I am the only developer working on this project, most new, totally
unplanned ideas will not be implemented for at least a couple of months. I do have
the development planned out for the next several months, and the things I am planning on
adding / finishing in the not-to-distant future are the rest of the Finder (at the present
time only the Finder bar is replicated), along with a re-coded, more efficient menu
system, as well support for visual emulation of more elements in Windows interface. Please
note that I do not have release dates even roughly scheduled until usually days before a
release, so if you email me about it I will not be able to provide you with any accurate
information about when I am starting work on new features nor on release dates.
Anything Else? Who says nothing good is free? Well, while MacVision is in its beta stage, it will continue to be completely free for personal use. If you like MacVision, you will definitely want to sign up for MacVision's newsletter, which will notify you of news and new-releases the instant they are available!
