Easy Basketweave Cloth and Potholder

Materials:
1 1/2 balls Sugar N Creme Worsted Wt. cotton
Size
G crochet hook
Size: 6 3/4" by 6 3/4"
Gauge: 2 rows patt = 1 1/4"
& 4 dc = 1"
Stitches used:
ch st - chain stitch
sl st - slip
stitch
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
Fpdc - front post
double crochet
Bpdc - back post double crochet
CLOTH:
Ch
26.
1: Hdc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. (24
sts)
2: (For Potholder mark this row as right side) Hdc in next 3 sts, Fpdc
in next 4 sts, (hdc in next 4, Fpdc in next 4) across. Ch 3, turn.
3: Bpdc in
next 3 sts, hdc in next 4, (Bpdc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 4) across. Ch 3,
turn.
4: Fpdc in next 3 sts, hdc in back loops of next 4 sts, (Fpdc in next 4
sts, hdc in back loop of next 4) across. Ch 3, turn.
5: Hdc in next 3 sts,
Bpdc in next 4, (hdc in next 4, Bpdc in next 4) across. Ch 3, turn.
6: Hdc in
back loop of next 3 sts, Fpdc in next 4, (hdc in back loop of next 4 sts, Fpdc
in next 4) across. Ch 3, turn.
7: Rep row 3.
8: Rep row 4.
9: Rep row

At end of row 16
- ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc in the same st. (corner) Work 1 sc in each st across to
last st. 3 sc in last st for corner. Work 2 sc in edges of each row; 3 sc in
corner, sc in each st across foundation chain; 3 sc in corner, 2 sc in edges of
each row up next side. Join with a sl st to beginning ch 1.
Fasten off and
weave in loose ends.
POTHOLDER:
Make 2 of the cloths. Hold the two
cloths together wrong sides in and matching 1st and last rows. (You can pin them
together if they`re too clumsy to hold. I sometimes use those little bag clips
or plastic clothes pins/clips to hold pieces together. It`s much easier than
using straight pins :-)
Join yarn through both stitch of any corner.
Ch
1. Sc together by making a sc through corresponding stitches of both pieces and
3 sc in each corner.
Join with a sl st to beginning ch 1. Ch 8; sl st in
same st. Fasten off and weave in ends.
