Child`s V-st Poncho Design by Janelle Schlossman 2004 For a toddler!
I designed this poncho for a child size small 4/6 but it is like a size 2. I made the rectangles side to side instead of bottom to top. It`s a simple V-st pattern and works up fast :-) If anyone uses this pattern I would greatly appreciate feedback as to the fit. I don`t have any little ones around to model this on. I`ve received some feedback from a very gracious young lady. She made this for her 4 year old and it was too small and has given it to her little niece who is 2. So this poncho fits a toddler and not a small child. I will have to design a larger size soon :-) Thanks so much Courtney!
Here are the measurements for this poncho:
12" from neck to point 18" at widest point about 8 1/2" from neck on down the arm I think the neck is approx. 15"
Materials: *approx. 5 1/2 oz. Red Heart worsted wt. yarn the color is Aran *crochet hook size L
Special stitches: V-st: dc-ch1-dc in same stitch or space
Ch 25. 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook. Ch 1, dc in same ch. *skip 2 ch, V-st in next ch. Repeat from * 5 more times. Skip 1 ch, dc in last ch. Ch 3, turn. 2: (V-st in ch1 sp of next V-st) across. Dc in ch 3 of previous row. Ch 3, turn. 3-22: Repeat row 2. Finish off; weave in loose ends. Make another rectangle the same.
Below shows the two rectangles sewn together. Sew pieces together according to the graph below. .
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Finishing:
Rejoin yarn at top of 3rd row to the right of one of the seams at the neck. Ch 1 (counts as the first sc); work 2 sc in end of each row around neck edge. When you get to the seams, sc the last st before the seam and the first st after the seam together.
Join with a slip st to beginning ch 1. For the fringe around the bottom of the poncho, I cut 108 pieces of yarn about 7 1/2" long and attached them evenly spaced around the whole bottom edge.
