Links

When I first got mixed up in this mess, there were only four Web sites with significant information on the Zodiac case, and two of them were by-the-book Graysmith rehashes.  These days, there are more Z-related sites than I can count, and many more than any sane person would want to visit.  The ones I've listed below -- in no particular order -- are interesting for their style, suspect, presentation, or all three; they're more than simply repetitions of the stuff you can find at your local library.  Some are required reading, some are curiosities, some are the products of deranged personalities; each, however, is worth a look.

Free the West Memphis Three
Thank God I live up north. This site isn't Zodiac-related, but it's certainly the most important one listed here. The only thing more outrageous than the hillbilly kangaroo courts that foisted triple-murder raps on Jessie Misskelley, Jason Baldwin, and Damien Echols -- all minors, one of them semi-retarded -- is the fact that two juries considered black T-shirts and Metallica lyrics adequate evidence for a conviction. Baldwin and Misskelley are serving life sentences in an Arkansas state prison, and Echols is actually facing the death penalty -- did you know that the only nations in the world that execute juveniles are Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the United States? Visit this site, read about the sham legal proceedings that put these kids away, and then bury your Black Sabbath tapes by the light of the moon, because it could have happened to you.

TheZodiacFilm.com
THE ZODIAC is one of several recent and upcoming Zodiac movies,  but this is the one starring my main man Philip Baker Hall and others in what looks to be a sweet period piece based on the Zodiac era.  I don't know what the plot will include, but the movie's site is nothing short of rad.  Give it a look.

ZodiacKiller.com
Graphics-driven site with a heavy emphasis on Arthur Leigh Allen as the Zodiac. Features plenty of exclusive photos, tons of documents, stuff for sale, and a message board populated by a whole slew of heavy hitters. Pretty much the biggest and the best Z-site out there, it's a must-see.

Two New Theories Regarding the Zodiac Case
Every now and then, an amateur researcher comes along and knocks one out of the park, and Mike Cole is one of them, putting all the old-timers to shame.  Here's a fascinating new take on the radian and related graphic/mathematical theories.

ZodiacRadian.com
This looks to be a comparison of the radian and the symbol from  the Halloween Card with a Vallejo street map.  Pretty spare at this point, but the author promises more to come.

Thoughts on the Zodiac Killer
A Web site by researcher Mike Rodelli detailing the case against his suspect, Citizen X.  Mike has been featured in the SF Chronicle, ABC's Primetime, and on this very site, and regardless of what you think about his suspect, you've got to hand it to him -- the guy's got heart.  Take a look for yourself and see what he's got.

Zodiac Vortex
A flashy site from a fellow amateur researcher.  This one uses high-tech-looking graphics to morph photos of the well-known suspects into the Zodiac composite sketch, presents summaries of the evidence against them, lists the victims, and details other aspects of the case.  The information and analysis won't surprise longtime students of the case, but the dynamite visuals make the whole site very engaging.

The Unabomber-Zodiac Connection
Dedicated to the theory that UNABOMber Ted Kaczynski was also the Zodiac, this site features a slew of relevant essays and information. Unfortunately, their Dr. Zodiac CD-ROM is no longer for sale; it's "in need of revision" and has been discontinued. Let's hope they bring it back soon.

Labyrinth13
A great site that offers an excellent overview of the Zodiac story with briefs on various theories, a lineup of the high-profile suspects, and a relevant examination of The Mikado.  Accurate and well-written, it's a terrific crash course in the case.  It's part of a larger site that deals with other unsolved true crime cases, conspiracy theories, and THE OCCULT.

TheZodiacFiles.com
This site, run by senior Zodiac researcher Ed Neil, promises chronological synopses of vintage Zodiac newspaper articles.  It's pretty slim at this writing, but ought to be invaluable if the information is ever posted.  In the meantime, check out the selection of photos from Zodiac field trips!

The Zodiac-Manson Connection
Dr. Howard Davis is working on the theory that the Zodiac was actually Bruce Davis (no relation -- I think), a Manson henchman and genuine bad guy in his own right.  Over time, Howard has filled out his site rather well and it's worth a look.

Zodiac Killer Pages
Here's another amateur enterprise you might be interested in.  Nothing groundbreaking, but there are a lot of high quality pics and the author is obviously enthusiastic.  The recent addition of a Table of Contents makes the site a lot easier to navigate.  Worth a look while you're waiting for another round of DNA testing.

The Zodiac Factor
At the moment, this German site is composed of a beautiful splash page and a series of links to articles by prominent Z-researchers, but there's something about it that seems pregnant with forthcoming features.  The author may be best known as something of a gadfly in some Zodiac circles, but he's rapidly becoming a very valuable source of information, and I look forward to more.  Check out the CD-ROM offer.

The Black Dahlia Web Site
Not a Zodiac site, but they gave me an award, so they get a link.  This is an extensive look at the grisly and unsolved 1947 murder and dismemberment of Elizabeth Short, another heinously baroque California mystery.  Gets a little gory at times, which will attract as many as it repulses.  Very well done, and very thorough.
