Janet Amelia Toner

That's my name, or at least, it was the day I was born. I prefer to have my current name a bit more anonymous. As a public employee, I think it wise not to let too many people know I like to publish sexy stories on the net.

If, for some unfathomable reason, you're curious about me, I'll let you in on a few facts:

I was born on 11/6/47, which means that I've been breathing on my own for a half-century now. I am a college graduate with a certificate in the teaching of high school English. For many years I have worked in the social work field, however, first for a state child protection office, more recently for an agency that assists people with severe developmental disabilities.

I have gotten to see a lot of grief in my life, some in my own life, but more because of my work. I have also seen some remarkable examples of personal courage, achievement, and survival against incredible odds that has reassured me that the human spirit can overcome unbelievable hardships, perhaps with scars, but essentially intact. Maybe that's one of the reasons I have always loved Star Trek since I was first exposed to it on that premiere night on NBC 31 years ago.

I am married to a wonderful man who loves chess, volleyball, his two sons and me (not necessarily in that order). I have a son who just qualified to read my NC-17 stories and another who recently entered those perilous teenage years. They are both great kids, even if we do fight over whose turn it is to use the computer at times.

I have two terrific brothers, both of whom have been Star Trek fans for many years. My sisters-in-law have become friends as well as relatives-by-marriage, and I currently have three nieces--(but there's another niece or a nephew on the way).

My mother is still living and is one of the gentlest, sweetest people ever to grace this earth. My one regret about not ever having a daughter is the fact that I will never have the kind of relationship that she has had with me, although gentle and sweet are not adjectives that immediately come to mind when someone tries to describe me! I do believe, however, that the mother/daughter relationship is very different from the mother/son one. Since I was raised with brothers and now have sons, I sometimes feel like I have lived my life in a locker room.

I love music and sing with a local choral group. Classical, pops, you name it, I like to sing it. I like classic rock, too, but I could never sing it--folk music, yeah, but it's been out of date for a long time. My soprano voice is losing a bit on top now, so I am working on my bottom register and sing alto from time to time. I refuse to be a quavery soprano! I play a bit of guitar and piano, but I'm pretty out of practice at the moment.

I like to cross-stitch, although lately the computer sucks up all my spare time. Websites are time-intensive! So is writing, which I love to do.

When I was about 7, my parents had to have me tested through the school's child study team because of my distractibility. I would probably get a PDD diagnosis nowadays! Then, my parents were told that I had a very active imagination that should be cultivated through books.

And boy, was it ever cultivated! I became a denizen of the local library. I read biographies, mysteries, fiction of all kinds, books on science, and finally, when I was about 12, I encountered Science Fiction. My first "trial" term paper as a freshman in high school was entitled, "Science Fiction, from Ralph 124C41 to B.E.M.s (Bug-Eyed Monsters)." I still remember that I got an A- because the paper was longer than it should have been, and that the teacher wrote on it, "A good paper. Too bad you wasted so much time on such an insignificant subject." This was long before Star Trek and Star Wars, so we will give this teacher the benefit of the doubt for his lack of prescience.

Although I dabbled in writing bad poetry while in college, I pretty much stopped writing for many years because I didn't think I had much to write about. Real Life took up my time. Lo and behold, those Real Life experiences have given me, finally, some suitable subjects, while the invention of the word processing program and the home PC has given me the means to write my thoughts down easily. I just love editing on the computer!

So far I have been writing mainly Tom and B'Elanna fan fiction since "Blood Fever" on Star Trek: Voyager prodded me into putting my thoughts down on paper again. Now I'm addicted to writing. I've got a few other stories kicking around my head, though, some Trek related, some not, and they may see the light of day soon. We'll see.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. Thanks for visiting.
