Mulder sat sadly outside the J. Edgar Hoover building. Every time a face passed by, he looked for her face, for the face of Jessica Neller. He wanted to see her black hair and blue eyes, he wanted to see her smile and her frown. He needed her; not to love, but for answers. Only she could explain and tell him what to do. She knew everything about their futures and only she could help them.
The face he sought never appeared. She had given him the only think that had and will ever matter, but he could not touch it. He could not feel it and sometimes he couldn't even see it. She had given him that one night of revelation and all though he hadn't realized it then, he did now. That one night was all he was going to have. Jessica had known it, he had not. He hadn't even thought about it, he had just acted.
"Jess you knew....." he whispered. "Tell me how I can get her to listen to me. How do I get her to believe in her heart?"
He closed his eyes and rested his head on his car steering wheel. All he wanted were the answers and suddenly he felt his body being filled with a familiar presence.
"Soul mates come together just once in a life......." a voice coming from deep inside his soul spoke. "Your time to meet in love has not come. You must grasp deaths hand once again, but only in this life. Before then and forever after you will love, but in the before you will only seek, never feel. Let death take you and let the savior pull you back. Let me help."
Mulder fought the presence with all of his strength. As much as he liked the presence, it weakened him. With his fists balled and his eyes shut tightly he pushed it out.
"I have to have her now Jess." he growled.
"The answer you sought has come, do not fight it." the presence spoke.
"Stop it!" he forced his eyes open and looked directly into the sun, and as he did so, Jessica's presence vanished. A sickening wave of nausea washed over him and he quickly stumbled from the car and to the bushes where he let the pain go.
He wasn't sure how long he had been kneeling there when he felt soft hands on the back of his neck.
"Come on Mulder, let me take you home." a voice spoke.
"I don't think I can walk, Scully." he moaned. "I feel like someone just stuck a suction pump down my stomach."
Scully grabbed his left arm and hoisted him up then led him back to his car. "Would you mind telling me how you suddenly got so sick when you were fine not more than twenty minutes ago."
Mulder slumped down in the car and held his head between his hands. "I think it must have been something I ate."
"We ate the same thing and I'm not sick." she leaned over and placed a hand on his forehead. "You feel like you have a fever, I'm going to take you to my place and check you out."
To tired and sick to argue, he nodded and closed his eyes. "Will you shoot me? I think I'd feel better if you got me right between the eyes."
Scully laughed and started the car. "I don't think I have the heart to do that. I like you too much to kill you."
Mulder grinned and laid a hand on her leg. "I like you too Dana."
Scully brushed his hand away and backed out of the parking space. "Watch it agent Mulder. I may end up shooting you if you touch me like that again." she pulled on to the street and turned onto the road leading to her apartment.
"Thanks......I really feel like crap. I don't know what I'd do with out you."
Scully smiled but did not comment. 'You'll never be with out me.' she thought. There was no way she'd ever leave him now that she knew he loved her. "I don't think that you'll have to be with out me." she said carefully.
Mulder glanced over at her. "I hope you'll never have to be with out me, Scully."
"I haven't lost you yet, and you've gone through about everything known to man." Scully said as she turned the corner. "So what's to stop you know agent Mulder?"
He laughed. "Nothing , but the group."

20 Minutes Later
Scully's Apartment
Mulder sat sullenly on Scully's bed, hoping that she would hurry up in the bathroom so that he could go empty the last contents of his stomach. At the very moment she came out he ran past her and slammed the door.
Scully shook her head and made her way to the kitchen. She opened the cabinet where she kept her medical supplies and pulled out a thermometer and a couple other things. Moving over to her stove she quickly began to boil some water for tea.
She refused to worry about Mulder, but the worry was there. Every time she moved she felt like something was wrong. All she could think about was the time Mulder had been drugged by the MOCALD and almost died. he had been so out of it, so afraid that he had killed his won father. She prayed that this little incident was nothing like that one.
"Scully?"
She turned around to find Mulder standing in the doorway. "Feeling better?" she asked. Picking up the thermometer from the counter she turned it on and handed it to him. "Here, put this under your tongue."
Mulder grimaced but did as he was told. After a minute of agony the thing beeped and he tossed it to her without bothering to look. "You might as well look Dr. Scully, because I sure as hell don't think I want too."
Scully laughed. "You have a fever so I want you to go get into my bed and I'll be there with some tea in a minute, okay?" She was beginning to feel like a mother trying to get her stubborn child to do as she told.
He nodded, to tired and sick to argue. "Sure...." he was about half way out of the room when he remembered something. "Ugh-- Scully, I used your tooth brush. You may want to buy another one later today or tomorrow." he caught the expression he had hoped to see before he left, leaving her alone in the kitchen.
"Mul--der......" She shook her head and turned back to the stove.
*****
Mulder tried to get comfortable, but Scully's presence in the next room was making him restless. He could smell her presence in the sheets and he wanted to so much hold her like he had many months ago. He knew that he should have gone with his feelings and pushed her into it, but that wouldn't have been fair and she would have hated him for it.
"Here." Scully said walking into the room. "Drink this, it'll settle your stomach." she handed him a cup of tea then sat down on the bed next to him. "I'm so tired, would you mind if I curled up with you?"
He shook his head. "No and thank you." he excepted the mug gratefully and took a sip of the hot liquid.
"Your worrying me, Mulder." she confessed. "I no that I always see you when your sick, but I've never seen you get sick so fast. All I can keep thinking about is that time you were all doped up on those drugs. You were so sick and I wasn't even sure you were going to make it. I was so scared, then."
"I'm okay." he placed the cup of tea on the night stand next to him. "And I want you to know that I will always be all right. If I ever did anything to hurt you I'd probably kill myself. I love you."
Scully was taken aback by his last statement. He had never once said that to her before and now that he had she didn't quite no what to say. She loved him, it was very clear in her mind, but she couldn't tell him. "I--"
"You don't have to say it back, I just wanted to tell you in case something happened to me before I got the chance to tell you." he took her hand in his. "What ever happens, happens and I don't want to make a mistake that will separate us. If you felt the same I'd be sure to watch my back , but...."
"Mulder." She said interrupting. "You know how I feel. I do love you, but it can't happen yet." she started to pull back but Mulder caught her cheek and his eyes held her gaze. "I don't think that...."
"I need you." he pulled her face closer. "You want me, I can see it in your eyes. Tell me you want me."
Scully did not resist him. She went down until her lips were pressed tightly against his. "Maybe....." she murmured in to his lips as he pulled her further and further away from her beliefs. His hands moved to her hair and she moved so that she was laying on top of him. "I do love you."
"I need you......" he whispered again. Her lips parted, letting him further in. He flipped her over so that he was on top of her. His lips moved down her neck, wanting more and more of her. one hand went t o the top of her blouse, the other he used to hold himself up so that he didn't crush her with his weight.
She knew she wanted it, but not yet. "No...!" Scully pushed at him weakly. "Not yet, Mulder. Please." Tears stung her eyes. "I want too, but I'm not ready yet. I just can't. It's to risky. I'm still so afraid of what will happen if I give into you. I'm so afraid." It was too close to the end, she could feel it.
"I won't push you." he rolled off of her and onto his side. "I'm sorry, I guess it's this fever. I would never try to seduce my best friend. I swear."
"Mulder--" she snuggled into his arms. "We can hold each other. We can hold each other every night for the rest of our lives, but can we just wait to make love. Please."
"Sure, I love you to much to push you into anything. We can wait." Mulder agreed and closed his eyes. Little did they know hat their time was extremely short. There wasn't much left to do, but love one another.

10:17 P.M.
Scully's apartment
He watched her sleep. That was all he could do, that's all he wanted to do. Her peace was so beautiful. It was something that he wasn't for himself, but selfishly gave to her out of love. He knew that she didn't sleep well without him close to her, so if he could give her this, then it was enough.
Sometimes he wondered what his life would be like with out her. He often wondered what would have happened if she had never been assigned to him. He would have probably ended up dead or lost on some wild goose chase. He didn't even want to think about what would have happened if she had never returned after her abduction or about what would have happened if Jessica hadn't save her after that shooting.
He loved Dana Scully more than life it's self. He was willing to die for her, but for her sake prayed that he would never have to. She was strong, but not that strong. She would easily give up on life if he died. She had almost done it once, he didn't want her to have to go through that again.
He looked back down at her peaceful face. She stir softly in his arms; wanting to get closer to his comfort. Mulder felt her breath on his neck. "Scully." he pulled his arms tighter around her frail frame. "Scully, I'll protect you."
"Lo--ve you, Mulder." she whispered sleepily, her eyes fluttered open for just a second then close again.
"Not half as much as I love you." he whispered back, this time kissing the top of her head. "Our time is almost up."
"How do you know?" she asked, looking up into his eyes. "Did someone say something to you? How?"
"Just a feeling." he smiled. "But when it comes we'll be together."
"Always." Scully whispered and closed her eyes.
Underneath the sheets, their hands came close and then their fingers entwined. They had held hands many times, but now was different. The love in their grasp was more powerful that before. They were more powerful.

Washington DC
12:08 A.M.
He could just make out the faint light seeping from under the crack of the basement office door, as he made his way down the long corridor. He hadn't wanted to speak to anyone; he had simply wanted to slip the envelope under the door and leave, but as he approached he saw that being inconspicuous would be impossible.
"Agent Scully." he said, trying to not alarm her.
Scully whirled around and gasped. Out of all the men she expected to see coming through that door at 12:00 A.M., he was the last. "Is there are reason your here?" she asked.
The man nodded. "I have something for you." he held out a the envelope he planed to shove under her door. "It they find out that I'm the one who have you this, they'll kill me. Promise me that you won't tell them where this came from."
Scully studied the man carefully. "What is this? she asked, pulling two bundles of disks from the envelope. "More lies?"
"No......." he pulled a cigarette from his pocket. "It's our manifest. I realize that you have no reason to trust me, but I ask that you at least take a look at the disks."
"Is there some reason your trusting me with these?"
He nodded. "Agent Mulder isn't ready to know the truth. I feel that you are, but in certain aspects."
"What aspects might those be?" Scully asked, still not sure of whether she should trust the man or kick him out while he still had a chance at survival.
"One plus for you is that you don't have any family ties. Agent Mulder, unfortunately does. He's ties to me."
"Excuse me?"
"The man laughed, "Samantha is my daughter, her blood is mixed with Fox's, there for we are tied by blood." he watched the young woman's face turn from anger to shock then to disgust. It was just the reaction he had hoped to see.
"I won't comment on that....." she said carefully. "Because it's none of my business. I just want to know why your giving this to us. Is this a trap? After all you've done to cover everything up......., why would you just give yourself away? You see m so out of character."
"Agent Scully, we will all be exposed. I want to do my part in it. Hell! The truth is stranger than fiction. You've already beaten us. I'm the only one visioned enough to see it!"
Scully nodded, but still didn't understand. "Sir, why is it so important to you that the truth stay hidden. What concern of all this is yours?"
He sighed. "May I tell you a story, Agent Scully?"
She nodded.
"Many years ago, a man , not much older than you, wanted power. He wanted people to work by his ways, to do what he did and at the time everyone believed it was okay. No one dared to question his ways and no one knew any better."
"So how did you get involved?"
"I was young and didn't know what to believe. Science in itself was just then being further studied and researched." he glanced down at his hands. "I got swept up in this mans movement. I really didn't know what I was involved in until it was to late."
"Why didn't you leave. Couldn't you get out?"
He shook his head. "I didn't want to agent Actually. I believed and I still believe in our cause, only now I'm willing to make a compromise.
"What exactly is your cause?"
"It was your protection. The MOCALD believe that there should not be one master race, but many."
Scully gasped. "Your talking about colonization The merchandise."
Roland laughed. "The merchandise was a fluke.......we were just then beginning to understand the power we held in our possession."
"You performed tests on innocent human beings, you made creatures and then killed them. Your not protections anyone."
"Agent Scully, you don't understand. Can't you imagine a flawless race. One that does not depend on violence and war to solve their problems. Or how about a race that doesn't use up all of the earth's resources on foolish things."
"A perfect being?" Scully shook her head. "Everything, everyone, has their flaws. Every race will find a way to destroy, lie, cheat, hate and kill each other. It's just instinct. Your changing the survival of the fittest. You can't alter a genetic code to change the way an organism acts.--" she let her voice trail off. A sudden reality hit her. "If you try to create this race, what will become of the rest of us?"
"You all have been marked and tagged. The few who have past the genetics tests will govern."
"And the rest of us?"
He shrugged. "They will be eliminated." he paused. "You have no need to worry, though. You be one of us. Your DNA has been altered to fit that of the master race."
On instinct, Scully's hand traveled to her waist and with a shaking hand she pulled her gun. "Stop the colonization."
"I'm sorry, I can't." he didn't even seem to notice the gun pointed at him. "Maybe if you expose us, in time......" he paused. "It's out of my hands, agent Scully. It's being run by a much higher power."
"Damn it!" she slammed her fist against the wall angrily. "Is it to late or do we have time to stop it?"
Roland glanced down at his watch. "If everything goes right, you have until January 1, 2000. That's three days." he began to leave the office, but stopped. "Protect yourself, Dana. They'll see that those disks are gone and they'll come after you. The end for us all is coming."

Mulders apartment
"Mulder!" Scully cried, banging on his door. "Mulder, it's me! Open up!"
There was a rustling sound and a click. Knowing that Mulder was probably still half asleep, she opened the door and pushed past the junk on the floor and walked in.
"It's a little early for a social call, isn't it?" Mulder asked through the darkens.
"Since when did you start sleeping, anyway?" Scully asked, flipping on the light switch. She opened her bag and dumped it's contents on the table. "Time is up, Mulder. We have exactly three days until the project is complete."
"What are you talking about?" he asked, squinting through the bright light. He was trying not to sound all confused, but it wasn't working.
"Roland came to see me this evening." Scully explained. "He gave me the MOCALDS manifest. He said something about the project being completed on January 1, 2000." she glanced at Mulder to see if he was following her, but she could tell that he wasn't. "Don't you get it, Mulder? The date for colonization is set. We're all going to die unless we do something in the next three days."
That got Mulders attention. "The bees......!" he jumped up. "The bees, Scully. That's how *they* are going to kill us. *They* are going to release swarms of killer bees to eliminate us."
"Roland mentioned that some are immune or protected." she paused. "He said that I was protected. I guess that when I was taken they did something to protect me."
"Why you?" Mulder asked. "Why you and not me?"
"Why not me!!!??" Scully cried.
"That's not what I meant." he took her hand in his. "I was just asking how they chose those to save. What are we going to do?"
"I don't know." she replied. "I've been coming up with hundreds of solutions, but the only one that sounds good is sending a copy of these files and of the manifest to every newspaper in the United States. I figured that we might be able to stop them by scaring people off. Too much publicity could ruin them and the project would have to be scraped."
"Then I suppose those men will be after us now." Mulder said grabbing his jacket of the chair. "So we're going to have to hurry. Let's see what's on these disks."

2 Hours Later
FBI Headquarters
"This better be important, Agent Mulder." AD Skinner said appearing in the office. "I don't normally like being woken up at 3:00 in the morning."
Mulder shook his head. "Sir, we don't have very much time left. I'm afraid that everything I have been telling you for the past seven years is about to go down."
"What?" Skinners eyes shifted nervously around the room. Why were they being so quiet? "Hello? What's going on?" he faced Mulder. "Agent Mulder, what do you mean?"
Mulder motioned to Scully. "As her sir, for once in her life she knows more than I do."
Skinner turned to Scully. "Well?" he tapped his foot impatiently. "I don't not have all night Agent Scully."
"Sir..." she stepped out from behind her desk. "I'm afraid that Mulder and I have been barking up the wrong tree for a while now." she shifted uncomfortably. "The whole time that we've been investigating the MOCALD we've never really thought about the more scientific approach."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning that we've focused to much on the government conspiracy and corruption and not the most important thing."
"And that would be?" Skinner asked impatiently. He didn't have the time for this.
Mulder through his pencil down and moved to sit next to Scully. "We're out of time." he replied. "The colonization project is going to take place on the first and that gives us very little time to stop them."
"Are you sure?"
Scully nodded. "We don't even know where this will take place." she laughed. "This was never about justice or getting even. This was always about colonization. This group is going to kill over five billion people and we can't stop them."
"There must be away." Skinner cried. "Have you looked through the files?"
"Yes, Sir." Scully replied. "There is nothing on a way to stop them, so what it comes down to is letting the world know the truth before the citizens die."
"Are you prepared to let that kind of information out?"
Mulder and Scully both shook their heads. "We haven't even begun to start putting it all together. It could take days to do it."
"We have to edit the manifest." Mulder said thinking of the things they had to do. "We can't leave the colonization part in there. The files are pretty much ready to send, but I haven't been able to make a copy with out the UFO/Colonization stuff in it."
"You need to hurry." Skinner said glancing over at the computer screen. "I want these files sent to every paper and news station before midnight on the thirty-first."
"Sir....." Scully stood up. "I think it would be wise if you left for the next week. There will be a lot of stuff going down in the next couple of days and Mulder and I don't want you mixed up in the middle of it."
"Maybe you should take your wife and go on a vacation." Mulder suggested. "If Scully and I get killed we'll need someone here to vouch on our behaves and if you die no one will be here to do so and our names will be destroyed."
Skinner nodded. "All right agent Mulder. I'll go, but be careful. These men are dangerous. I don't want to see something happen to you, not this close to the end."

10:18 P.M.
Location Unknown
"Some one in this group has betrayed the MOCALD name." James Dumaine announced as he walked around the table occupied by his associates. "I am not making any accusations, but who ever it was is facing a very strong punishment."
Adrian and John exchanged glances. "How so?" they asked.
"Someone has given a copy of our manifest to the *Spooky* agents in the X-Files division." he replied. "And I would like to know who it was."
"It must have been one of the brothers." Roland said leaning up from the shadows. "I doubt that any of us would do something so stupid."
James laughed. "Maybe, but that was not what I wanted to speak to you all about." he turned to John and threw down a stack of files. "These are not the real MOCALD files. I have found many mistakes and changes, it seems that Jessica was never truly one of us. She tricked us and now do you know who possesses those files?"
The men in the group shook their heads.
"Let me guess." Ned said leaning up from the back of the room. "Agent's Mulder and Scully?"
James grinned and nodded. "Very good Agent Roberts, I was beginning to wonder when you would voice your opinions. It's been years since you've actually contributed anything to this group."
John glanced over at his cousin. "How do we get the real files?"
Ned shrugged. "I don't know, why the hell are you asking me. Your the leader of this group. Your the one who is suppose to be organizing this project. I don't want anything to do with this anymore."
Adrian gasped and slouched further down in his chair. "Bad move Ned." he whispered.
John looked up to James who nodded. "Are we afraid, Agent Roberts?" James asked.
Ned shook his head and jumped to his feet. "I'm sick of you." he growled. "I'm sick of you and John always ordering me around. This group has changed. We used to care about each other and now all we do is kill one another. You can kill me, but I'm out." he headed towards the doors, but two men stepped out and grabbed him.
James pulled a gun from his pocket and walked over to the younger man. "You'll die either way." he said softly. With the gun pressed against Neds temple, he leaned in closer. "What makes you think that we'll just let you walk away?"
"I--I--." he looked over to John, but John turned away. "Kill me then. What have I got to live for? You killed my wife and I'm an old man. Do what ever you like." he closed his eyes. He could here the chambers turning as James slowly pulled the trigger.
"That's enough, James!" John cried. "Let him go." he walked over to the two men. "Ned will kill the FBI agents before we let his place in the group go down." he turned to his cousin. "Isn't that right, Ned?"
"Yes." he replied through clenched teeth. "What ever you would like, sir."
John turned to James. "Get out! This is my operation now."
"As you wish." James tucked his gun back in his pocket and left.

"Shit!" Mulder cried out in frustration. Time was almost up and there was still so much to do. The files were formatted and complete, but the manifest was far from being complete. He wasn't used to reading so much in such a small amount of time. He was beginning to see words every time he closed his eyes. The sentences kept running though his mind, over and over again. Everything was so hard to grasp, there was just too much of it.
It was getting to the point where he was just deleting every thing that had the words E.B.E or UFO, Colonization and things along that line. Leaning back in his chair he glanced up at Scully who had just entered the office.
"How's it going?" she asked walking around to stand behind him.
"I don't know. I've got about another five hundred pages to go and I'm beginning to think that this is just a waste of time."
"There has to be an easier way to do this, we have---" she glanced down at her watch. "We have a little under twelve hours to complete this. We can't give up, there is too much depending on it."
"Here, then you help." he handed her another disk. "I'll be damned if I'm going to do the whole thing plus make the copies."
Okay." Scully accepted the disk and sat down at her desk. "What is it that I am supposed to be deleting?"
"Anything about the project." he replied and turned back to his own screen.
"That should be easy." Scully muttered and slipped the disk into the drive. Once it was loaded she began going through the entries. After about ten pages she stopped on and entry dated from July 28, 1948:
"There is no longer one master race in our known galaxy
and beyond. There are many races, some far more advanced
than our own and many far more advanced than the
other's we know of. Our mission is to make one perfect
master race and to eliminate all others. The project will
not be set for another three to four decades, but by the
millennium we pray that it will be set......."

Taking her mouse she quickly highlighted the passage and deleted it from the copy they would be sending to the media. After a few more pages she stopped again to read another excerpt.
"March 24, 1949,
They think that they can stop us from our dreams,
but they are wrong. We will succeed in taking them over
by force, we will win independence to our
names. It is not the justice that we crave, it is our
humanity. With the extraction's of the DNA we will be at one,
in a perfect race. There will no longer be any greed or crime for
those whims will eliminated. The project is set. We mark the day
of colonization."

"Mulder." Scully said glancing up from the screen. "Why do I have the files dated back to 1948 and 1949?"
"What?" Mulder's head flew up. "That's impossible, I have--" he skimmed down the page. "I have 1948-1948." he groaned. "This is ridicules."
Scully laughed and turned back to her screen. "The passages are getting shorter and the dates are more spread. I'm hoping to get to 1960 before dinner."
"At the rate were going, there won't be any dinner for us. We have to get this done."

(8 Hours and 44 minutes left)
"February 9, 1980,
Possibilities rest with in the hands fate, but
our testimonies have been proven to be immutable
and have been tossed out. Crimes are not our passion,
justice is not our creed, perfection is our goal and the
purification must begin. Individuals will be chosen, they
will taken aboard the many capsules and into our hands.
A series of tests will be done on each individual and those who
pass the requirements will be spared.
With the DNA tagging we will be able to choose those few
individuals who will make it past our tests and in that they will live
as slaves to the new race."

Tears stung Scully's eyes. She couldn't read anymore. "I'll be back in a second Mulder." she said then quickly ran out of the office. Out in the hall she let her emotions go. Sobs shook her body, she had to grip the railing for support. She wished that it could all end. She wanted it to all end now.
"Scully?" Mulder walked up behind her. "Scully, if your crying for me, don't." he pulled her to his chest. "I'm not my father and I know that he was sorry for what he had done. That passage could mean anything."
She shook her head and turned to face him. "I saw your father's name but that wasn't it." she pulled away and wrapped her arms around herself. "I don't want to be used as a slave. I don't want to have to watch you die while I live. I'd shoot myself in the head before I they did that to me. I can't handle this."
"Scully, there isn't a place that you'll go where I won't. Well fight this thing. They can't succeed as long as we stick by each other and stop them."
"I can't take this anymore!" Scully screamed. "It's making me crazy. God, I'm going to go crazy if this doesn't stop." her eyes darted nervously around the hall. "I have to leave, Mulder. I have to go away. I can't stay! I can't ! I can't." she covered her eyes. "I feel like the walls are watching us, it feels like they have ears."
"Scully!" Mulder shook her shoulders roughly. "Scully, don't do this to me! Not now, not when we are so close." he pulled her hands free of her face. "Please have faith. Now is not the time for a breakdown."
"Mulder I can't take it anymore. I'm going to lose it, I just can't handle this. I can't believe in all this."
"Scully, why can't you believe."
She shook her head. "I don't know. I mean I want too, but I don't really know what to believe anymore. How would you feel if you suddenly lost everything you believed in? I feel stupid for not believing in the things that you believed and I feel even stupider for not believing in you all of those years. I was so wrong."
Mulder smiled. "I think you always believed in me, Scully. If you hadn't you wouldn't have stuck around all of these years."
"I can't do it anymore!"
"What happened to my calm and cool partner. You have never acted like this in all the years I have known you, don't start acting like a wimp now." he touched her cheek gently. "Don't do this to your self."
"I'm sorry Mulder." Scully sighed and leaned back against the wall. "I'm scared and I don't know how to handle it. This isn't your fault."
"Are you going to be all right? When people get scared or if they are not exactly in their right mind they get careless and I don't want anything to happen. Can you make it through all of this?"
"Yeah as long as you stay beside me and don't do anything stupid." she glanced at her watch. "And now we have to get back to work. Times is a ticking away."

NYC
"Gentlemen, tonight is the night that we must eliminate the final threats to the project." John said walking around the MOCALD members that had gathered in the suite. "In exactly one hour we will be taking our private jet to DC. From there we will separate into two groups. The Circle as well as many of your brothers will pay a visit to my office and the rest shall accompany the MOs to the base."
"Will there be a block?" Roland asked leaning up from the shadows. "I refuse to go through a military block for no reason."
John shook his head. "No there will be no block and you may leave now, your presence is needed their sooner than ours."
Roland nodded and stood up. "Thank you John." with that he left followed by Adrian and another brother.
John turned back to the group. "You all have your orders, now I release you to prepare. Your weapon will be issued at the airport."
"Will we need to use them?" Ned asked as the members filed out of the room. "I don't think we should have too. Agents' Mulder and Scully are clue less as to what is going on. Is killing them absolutely necessary?"
"Ned, I'm beginning to think that I should have let James shoot you instead of turning him away." John picked up his cellular off the table. "Toughen up Ned or you'll be joining your wife, son, and daughter in-law."
"You bastard. Where are they?"
John grinned. "For starters my daughter in-law was a mistake and she took a dive off of....." he paused. "Well that's not important. I'm warning you, one mistake and you die."

They moved so quickly that she hadn't had the time to escape them. It had been just like when she was a child. She remember a bright light then her brothers absolute stillness, there were then hands lifting her from her position.
"Come with us or we'll kill you." an evil voice snarled in her ear.
The woman turned around to face the man. "Okay, what else have I got to live for?"

When he saw her standing next the men his breath nearly caught in his throat. He remembered her from years ago. They had been held in the same place. Of course she had been many years older, but they had become friends.
Now standing across from them made all the painful memories come back. As he took the step towards them he felt hands close around his arm.
"Come with us. Your presence is needed."
The man nodded. "Very well. I have nothing to live for."

9:17 P.M.
The light was so bright. Two men stood in the door, holding guns to her. It had been weeks since she had seen anyone. A man came in twice a day to feed her, but otherwise she was alone in the daily, nightly and always surrounding darkness.
"Ahh, Jessica. Your presence is needed on this earth so we're going to let you go." One of the men said.
Jessica squinted. "Why?"
"I'm not sure." the other man, whom she just reviled as Roland, replied. "But I will spare you. I believe that you have the right to know the truth about who you are and what you are." he moved aside and she stood up then walked past him into the light.
"Is there are reason that you chose New Years Eve to let me go?"
Roland smiled. "Yes." he glanced at his watch. "You have approximately two hours before my associates make their moves on Agents Mulder and Scully. You are approximately three hours outside of the city with out transportation. I want to see if you can use what you possess to save them."
Jessica shook her head. "Your crazy. "How the hell......"
Roland placed his finger in front of her mouth. "Shh--. No questions. We'll be leaving now." he motioned for his friend to follow him and they left, leaving Jessica alone in the abandoned warehouse.
Once they were gone, Jessica walked out into the parking lot, praying that there was some sort of transportation. But there was nothing in sight. Two large trailer trucks lined the sides of the buildings, but nothing else existed in sight.
"For once just be on my side." she whispered.
Something deep inside her stirred. Closing her eyes she focused on the one thing that she wanted done. "Save the world." she whispered and as soon as the words came out of her mouth she heard a car roar to life.

"Finished!" Mulder cried happily, but Scully was no longer in the office to share his enthusiasm. It had been around 8:00 when he'd sent her up to the street level to keep a look out for any members of the MOCALD. She had been angry that he wouldn't let her help him, but after some convincing she'd agreed.
"Mulder!"
He jumped at the sound of Scully's voice. "Scully!" he cried jumping out of his chair. "Scully!" he called again.
"Mulder they just pulled into the parking lot." Scully cried rushing into the office. She slammed the door and quickly locked it. "I don't care if your finished editing it. Times up, we need to make the copies."
"I just finished." he said walking back over to the computer. "Throw me another Digital tape." he held out his hands.
Scully grabbed one off of her desk and tossed it to him. "I locked the doors leading down here so that should buy us some time, but you have to hurry. I counted five men in the car that pulled in first and I couldn't tell how many were in the other."
"I don't think I would have gotten finished if it hadn't been for Frohike and the guys. We're lucky to have them. I promised to send a copy of the manifest to them."
Scully glanced back at the door. "Mulder, come on! We don't have much time."
"I'm going as fast as I can. I--" he was cut off by a loud gunshot followed by men's voices.
"Mulder! They're coming." she rushed to his side. "Hurry!

"Mulder, hurry!" Scully cried. She could hear the men footsteps echoing down the hall. "They're coming!"
Mulder pushed escape and the screen went blank. "Get a......" there was a sudden gunshot and the door flew open.
"Give us the disk and file!" Adrian screamed angrily.
Scully shook her head. "No! You must be crazy if you think that we'll give it to you."
Adrian laughed. "John! Roland!" he yelled. "What do you want me to do?"
Mulder placed a hand on Scully's shoulder. "Maybe you should give it to him." he whispered. "There's only two of us and I'll bet you anything that more of them will come soon. It's not worth it."
"No......" she gripped the disk tighter. "You'll have to kill me....." she told Adrian. "I refuse to give in this easily. If you call off the project then I'll give you the disk, but if not you'll have to kill me.."
"Okay." Adrian shrugged and aimed his gun at Mulder. "Only you won't be the one to die......."
"That's right." a deep voice said from the door way.
"James." Adrian whispered and turned around. The look in his bosses eyes was unreadable, but full of evil. Drawing his gun closer he backed into the shadows. "I thought that you were---I thought you were gone."
James laughed and straightened the tie he wore around his neck. "Yes, well does anyone ever really leave?" he stepped forward. "Hello Agent Scully, Agent Mulder, it's really nice to see you both again and so soon." he grinned at Scully and turned back to Adrian. "I'm afraid that you've crossed the line."
Adrian shook his head. "No! Please James, I did nothing."
"Oh, know?" he pulled a gun from his side. "Then who gave my favorite pair of agents the disk containing our manifesto? I certainly did not and I know that John didn't........so that leaves you." he pressed his gun against Adrian's temple. "Tell me and I won't kill you."
"It was Roland!" Adrian cried. "Roland gave it to Scully! He wanted to help them. It wasn't me."
James faced Scully. "Is that true?" he asked.
She shrugged. "I don't remember who gave it to me. I don't see why it's important. You'll be killing ninety-nine percent of us anyway."
"Well.........." James sighed heavily. "I guess that your right." with out bothering to look at Adrian, he pulled the trigger.
Scully screamed and covered her eyes. She felt Mulder's hands close over her shoulders and she felt him pull her back to his chest. "I'm not telling." she murmured.
"You may want to tell us, Agent Scully." another man said appearing in the doorway.
She knew that voice. It was so familiar. Opening her eyes she gasped. "Ned! You too?"
Ned Roberts nodded and stepped forward. "I must say that I thought you and your partner would catch on sooner, but I guess that your not as bright as I first thought. It's a shame really, you two had such potential."
"You can't kill us." Mulder snarled. "If you kill us, you'll never know who the traitor amongst your men is. I---" he let his voice trail off as six or seven more men entered the office.
"Good-bye agent Scully." Ned whispered. He went down to reach for his gun, but Mulder was quicker. With one swift movement of his hand Mulder fired two shots at Ned, hitting him in his chest.
Ned stumbled backwards and fell against his cousin who had just entered the office. "Joh--n." he choked. John watched in horror as his last remaining family tie fell to the ground, dead, before him.
"Who's next?" Mulder asked, pushing Scully out of the way. "Who wants to join him?"
"Mulder, No!" Scully grabbed his arm, but he jerked it away roughly. "Mulder this won't help! Stop!"
A man off in the corner snickered. "It seems to me that you have a death wish, Agent Mulder. I'll never understand why, but it sure seems that way." he started to pull the trigger of his own gun, when he suddenly felt his insides being torn apart. He stared down at his white shirt that was now covered in blood and then before he knew what was happening, he crumpled to the ground.
"Stupid move, agent Mulder. Do you know what's going to happen to you now?" James asked.
"Why don't you tell me." he challenged.
"Okay....." with out any warning James raised his gun and emptied two rounds of bullets in Mulder chest.
"No!!!" Scully screamed as Mulder's body flew back against the wall. His head hit the wall with a sickening crack and he slid down. "Mulder!" she quickly rushed to his side, forgetting about the armed men standing behind her. It was just like the dream she had.
"Da--na." Mulder choked. She could hear the blood gurgling in his throat as he tried to speak.
"Don't talk, Fox." she whispered. "I'm here." she held his head in her hands trying to keep the blood from choking him. "Hang in there."
Mulder coughed. "Do---don't le-t them b---b---be exposed." he choked. "No--thining wi--ll be ga--gained by their ex---exposer." he closed his eyes. "Stop the colonization."
"No!" she screamed. "No, Mulder! Hang in there. Stay with me." she could feel the tears rising in her throat. "It's not supposed to be like this, Fox. You and I are aren't supposed to separate like this. Not like this." she rocked him gently back and forth. "Please stay with me."
He coughed again and took another labored breath. "Lo--ve you." he whispered.
Scully closed her eyes and pushed away the tears. It wasn't the time for tears. She had to stop *them* before they killed more people. "Mulder." she opened her eyes and looked down into his now open eyes. "Don't go to far." she whispered and gently let him go.
She heard him choke again, but ignored it. "Why!" she screamed, pulling her gun from the holster at her side. "Why do you have to do this. The public has the right to know the truth!" she aimed her gun at the man who had shot Mulder. "Who are you too decide what we can and can't believe?"
James laughed and stepped forward. "My dear, if we didn't do what we have done, this world wouldn't exist. People would have killed themselves out of fear!"
"Not if you had been honest with them from the start!" she screamed. "The citizens of the united states and of the citizens of the world have the right to know about the existence of other life forms. They have the right to freedom of speech and freedom of their actions. What the hell gives you the right to kill people because you believe they are a threat to us?"
"What gives you the right to tell us what to do?" John asked stepping up from the shadows. "You have no family ties with in our circle, Miss. Scully. There is no one to protect you. If I were you I'd throw down the gun while you still have the chance at a peaceful surrender."
"Your wrong!" she screamed. "Mulder is my family. If I were you I'd run, Mr. Dumaine!" she turned her gun on the older man. "I may work for the right side of our government, but I can still be one cold bitch. I think that you may have misjudged my willingness to surrender." she drew in a deep breath, scared that she was turning into one of them. 'I have too.' she told herself and pulled the trigger.
There was a shout of surprise and then James crumpled to the floor with out another word. He was clutching at the small pistol he had used against Mulder.
"Who's next?" she asked, turning her attention back on the men..
The men surrounding her backed away into the shadows. None of them wanted to die. They hadn't known what they were getting themselves into. It just didn't seem fair. "You can't kill us!" one of them cried. "You'll only be hurting yourself. Most of us tried to get out of this, but we were trapped.."
"This is all stops right here and now." Scully whispered. She pulled out the disk containing the information on the men and slipped it into the hard drive. "I just need to push this button and this information will be sent all over the world."
John gasped in horror. "No!" he pleaded. "No! Please! Dana, don't. Spare us the humiliation. I rather have you kill all of us then send that out. "
"Speak for yourself, John." Roland snarled. He turned to face his friend. "You took my daughter! You son-of-a-bitch! Maybe what agent Mulder has wanted to do isn't so bad!" he turned back to Scully. "Send it at will, Agent Scully." he held up his hands. "I rather have the truth shock the world more than I want to die. Fuck all this!"
"Roland!" John screamed. He began to fumble with the gun tucked safely at his side. Once is was free he pointed it at his partner. "I don't want to kill you! But I eliminate the threats! I eliminate and protect just as I was supposed to do from the beginning! But you--" he shook his head. "You disgust me!"
A look of pure and utter horror flashed across Roland's face as John threatened him. "John!" he began to back away. "John, please! After all I've done for you, how can you kill me? Please!" he tripped over James and fell backwards. His gun flew across the room and stopped at Mulder's feet. "I have given you the power you have always craved. I gave you status and position."
"Good-bye, my friend. It was nice while it lasted, but as you can tell, power has it's limits." John laughed and pulled the trigger.
Scully screamed and covered her eyes. The man whom she had learned to hate, but just recently found comforting, was gone. He now lay on top of James Dumaine, with a bullet in his back.
"Why do you feel that you have to kill everyone who knows about you or talks about you? Our world has a right to know. You can't just keep killing people. I don't understand why it is so hard to do the right thing." she trained her gun on John. "I mean, look at all you've done. What can make a man so evil? How can you kill your family? Why is making the perfect race so important. As long as men like you exist on the earth, there will never be a perfect race."
John grinned back. "Agent Scully, you have no idea what it's like to be powerful."
"I don't think that I want to, Mr. Neller. If being powerful means that you have to kill the people you love and the people you trust, then I want no part in that." she glanced over at Mulders crumpled body. "You shot my partner and for doing that; I'm afraid that I'll have to shoot you."
"Go ahead. I have nothing to live for. If you expose me and everyone else, all you 'll be doing is creating the worlds biggest panic attach. No one will be there to stop the colonization, or to stop the plague. Is that what you want? Do you want to be known as the woman who let the world go to it's grave."
Scully glanced down at Mulder again. He had taken a bullet protecting the cause from the public, did she really want to let him down? There was so much to live for and if the world couldn't handle the information then she didn't want to.......
'This is stupid.' she thought. "I'm sorry." she whispered. "But I have too, it's not me that will end the world---" she was just about to push 'send' on the key board when she heard the doors swing open.
"Dana no!" someone screamed. "Please."
Scully whirled around and gasped. "Jess---Jessica?" she suddenly felt faint. Jessica was dead. She had seen her die. This was not possible
Jessica smiled sadly, her gun aimed at Scully. "If you send that, you'll be exposing my family." she whispered. "I can't let you do that to me or my family. The Nellers can't be exposed for this, I won't let them be exposed. Even if the world dies, my family will still live in persecution. I don't want to live like that. I want."
"What? I thought you wanted to expose them......"
"Dana, I may not be proud of my family, but I can't expose them." she glanced over at her grandfather. "I don't want revenge, my revenge would only end up hurting the whole world and I don't think I can live with that. I don't believe that the secrets should stay locked up and buried forever, but I don't believe that we should let the whole world know about it all now. We'll only be exposing ourselves as well. Maybe we should let them colonize. It's out of our power, there's just to many of *them*."
"But-----We can't just let them continue this." Scully pleaded. "If we don't do something now, we'll never be able to stop *them*! I don't want *them* to win! We can't let *them* win." she turned to look at Mulder, who was still breathing, but barely. "Do you want more people like Mulder to get hurt and killed? Power isn't the only thing keeping these men alive. It's the other's that are joining them. It's the people who join them, believing that they can get close to the truth, that give them their high power of authority. If we let the world know the truth, no one will join them. "
Jessica turned her attention on Mulder. She hadn't known that he had been taken down and his broken and bloodied body brought tears to her eyes. "Is he---?" she couldn't bring herself to say the words.
Scully shook her head. "No, but if we don't get help soon he will be." she turned back to John. "I won't kill you, I'll leave your punishment to your granddaughter." she sat down in front of the computer and added the Lone Gunmen's address to the list of addresses.
"Scully!" Jessica screamed. "No! Please." she aimed her gun on the red-haired agent. "I don't want to kill you.....your my friend. It's to late to do it. Just stop it!!!!"
"I knew you'd join me, Jessica." John whispered. "I knew that you'd believe in the cause more than friendship. How does it feel to have my blood as yours?"
Jessica couldn't believe what she had just heard. She wasn't one of them. Was preventing Scully from sending the information making her a member of the MOCALD? She glanced over at Scully, then back to her grandfather, then to Scully again and back. She had to chose. Her family or her soul?
"I--" she turned back to Mulder. She didn't have enough strength so save all of them. She had to chose. "I don't want to be one of you, John!" she cried, but she was already one. It was her heritage. It was her birthright......

Part Twenty-eight: "Second Chances"
By Jenn Nistor (Jenn6092@aol.com)
December 31, 1999

FBI Headquarters
This was no longer the Jessica Neller, Scully knew. Her voice had twisted from a pure sense of calmness into a terrified child. Scully had never seen a woman fighting a battle as strong as Jessica's. She could see that every move Jessica made was pained. "We have to let the world know." she whispered. "Jessica, truth is power. If we let people know the truth *they* won't stand a chance."
Jessica turned back to look at Scully. "No......please." she felt the tears stream down her cheeks.
"Jessica, join me and be one of our families most powerful ties." John reached a hand out to his granddaughter. "Join me."
Jessica covered her ears and shook her head. "No! I don't want your power." she jerked her hands away and trained the gun on John once again. She could feel her blood begin to boil with something she had never felt before. There was sudden evil satisfaction to her ways. Pushing it aside and refusing to give into its beckon, she focused on John. "You have killed every person I have ever loved, and I'll be damned if I'm going to join you!"
John chuckled, "You feel it in your blood, don't you?" he made a slight motion with his head that made her jump. "You are already damned."
There was a loud crash followed by a gunshot and a shrill scream. Jessica felt a sharp pain rip through her side, but oddly it did not stop her. She hardly felt the pain. Trusting Scully to watch her grandfathers every move, she stumbled around and faced the men who had shot her.
"Big mistake!" she choked, and before she could figure out what she was doing, the boiling heat of evil in her blood made her fire. Another man started to go for his gun and she shot him as well. Both men crumpled to the ground, their eyes staring into the unknown. She heard Scully scream and quickly turned back in her friends direction. Two more men were now standing there, in the doorway, holding guns aimed at two hostages.
A slight recognition flashed in her eyes as she studied on of the hostages. "Jason?!" she cried. It was her brother and another woman she had never seen before. They both stood there, bloody and broken, with two guns pressed against their temples. "No!"
Jason stared at the woman who stood before him. "Jessica?" he couldn't believe his eyes. They had told him she was dead.....they had told him that his whole family had died, and yet here is sister and grandfather stood.
Jessica looked from her brother and up to the two men. "Let them go!" she warned. "Let Jason and......." she glanced at the woman. Her sixth sense told her that this woman was someone whom had been lost a lot longer than Jason. Taking the risk she made brief eye contact with the woman and nodded. "And Samantha go!"
Scully gasped and her attention was once again diverted to Mulder. 'Not now!' her mind screamed. 'He can't die now!' Fear clenched at her heart. She was truly alone in this. Although Jessica was there, she knew that something was wrong. Jessica was not acting the way she used too. She seemed evil.......evil enough to kill.
John, who was still being watched by Scully, laughed. "Jessica......chose." he motioned for the men to let the two hostages go. "I have given you your brother back and now you must give me your answer."
Samantha, who had been thrown roughly through the door, stumbled over and fell next to Mulder. At first she thought he was just another one of John Neller's men, but when she looked closer she saw the truth.
"No!" she screamed. She grabbed his arm. "Fox! No!" Tears stung her hazel eyes. "Please, you can't die."
Scully flinched at the sight of Samantha's pleading. She didn't know what to do. If she left the computer they would surely terminate the program, but if she stayed she knew that Mulder would surely die.
"Jessica!" she screamed, praying that he cry's would stop the woman's insanity. She turned back to the screen and got ready to push the send key. She wasn't about to wait around for Jessica to chose. She was already to far gone and there was no stopping her.
Jessica ignored Scully's plea and remained focused on the two men who had just walked in. "Do you have any regrets?" she asked them.
The two men exchanged glanced. "What do you mean?" one of them asked uncertainly.
"I was just asking if you had any regrets before I kill you." she replied. Once again she felt the evil in her blood begin to boil. They had created her and it was in her blood. She was tied to them not only by the blood, but by the evil. "If you do not have any regrets......" she once again fired her gun and the two men fell to the ground.
Jason grimaced at the sight. He had already counted ten bodies around the room, what was two more. He still wasn't sure of what was happening, but he could see that his sister was turning against the right ways. "Jessica....." he whispered.
Jessica completely ignored her brother and once again faced her grandfather. "Let's keep them coming. I'm curious as to how many more I can kill."
John grinned. "You know....." he scratched his head. "The more I look at you, the more I see myself. I was wrong in thinking that your father was my successor. It was you, it has always been you. To bad you had to find out this way. We could have made a wonderful team my dear--, a wonderful team." he raised his hand and pointed his own gun at her. "Throw the gun down.....Jess."
Jessica stared down at her hands. She saw the gun she held, but did not recognize it. It was almost like someone had planted a foreign object in her hands, expecting her to figure out what to do with it.
"I'm sorry Scully." she whispered and began to lower the gun. "I am one of them and I can't change it." she looked to Jason. "You were lucky to have been taken and not experimented on."
Scully watched in horror as Jessica fell to her knees. "Jess!" she screamed. "Jess!" she felt her heart begin to race. She couldn't let her friend die......not now, not like this. "Jess, the power is in you! It's not in your grandfather. You have the power to fight the evil that boils with in you!"
Jessica raised her eyes to meet Scully's. A sudden sense of light filled her body and she could feel the wound in her side healing. She finally understood. That night when Scully had gotten shot, Jessica had given Scully her power of light, the power life. Now it was being returned.
John raised his gun. Jessica closed her eyes. All of her concentration was on John's pistol. She could feel the power surging through her, building barricades and walls around her weakened defense. Trusting nothing but her intuition, she too raised her gun. Two shots rang out in the room and then all was silent.
Scully heard Samantha whimper and watched as Jason jumped to his feet. Who had been shot? No one knew. Both Jessica and John lay still on the ground.
"Did they kill each other?" Samantha asked.
Scully moved away from the computer and approached Jessica. "Jess?" she whispered. She placed her fingers at the base of the younger woman's neck to search for a pulse. Surely enough there was one. Letting out a sigh of relief she made her way over to John.
"Jason call an ambulance!" she yelled and felt for John's pulse.
His eyes opened. "Dana, *she* will lead the pr--project. You st--still have time to stop them." he closed his eyes.
Scully didn't understand. Was it Jessica that John was talking about? Jessica would never lead the project. She was too good.
Jessica let out a soft moan and opened her eyes. "Did I get him?" she asked.
Scully turned away nodded, but her attention wasn't focused on Jessica or John. She was watching Samantha rock Mulder's life less body back and fourth in her arms. "He's my partner." she whispered, laying a hand on Samantha's shoulder.
Samantha looked up but then back to her brother. "He's dying." she whispered. "He's dying, my poor brother is dying."
Scully fought back a sob. "He never stopped searching for you......he was driven. It was you who kept him going all of these years." she took Mulder's other hand and gently kissed it. "I was never enough for him."
A small trickle of blood seeped through the corner of Mulder's mouth and his breathing slowed.
"I love......you." Scully whispered, trying to find the right words to say. She gripped Mulders hand tightly. "I think that I always believed in what you believed, but it was this kind of thing that I didn't want to believe." she glanced at Jason who stood silently with his sister, watching the scene. "Rest, Mulder. I'll be there with you, shortly."
Jessica pulled her hand from Jason's. "I have too help." she whispered.
Understanding what she meant, Jason nodded and let her go freely. "Do what you need to."
"You can't, Jessica." Scully whispered as she knelt down on the opposite side of Mulder. She pushed her hand away. "He's to far gone."
"I need to." she said softly. "If saving him will save my soul, then I accept my fate." she placed her hands over Mulder's wounds. "I'll return him to you."
She closed her eyes and concentrated on the place of death. Once again she felt herself floating out of her body and into a place far away. There was a bright light on the opposite end, but she turned away, fearing what lied on the opposite end. She floated further and further away, until she reached the final place.
There in the place of death she found Mulder. He was standing in the shadows, alone and tall. His frame stood out in the darkness, but his eyes remained black and full of death. Reaching out, she touched him gently, giving him her light and life.
"Go back." she heard herself whisper. "Go back to them." and with those words, Mulder disappeared and began to return.
Scully watched as the blood soaked in Mulder's shirt disappeared and the wounds healed. "Mulder." she whispered. "Mulder......." she felt his hand tighten in hers.
Samantha wrapped her arms around her brother and pulled him to her chest even before he knew what was going on. "Fox!" she cried happily.
"Jessica." Scully whispered. She placed a hand on her friends shoulders, expecting her to fall over, but instead she opened her eyes and smiled.
"I guess I'm still needed here." she whispered and let Scully help her to her feet. "But then again it could just be my fate." she smiled, watching Samantha and Mulder exchange tears and hugs. "I guess we'll have to decide what to do now."
Scully nodded pointed to the computer. "We may have killed our circle here, but the other nations still have theirs." she paused. "I don't think that it's really a choice. The public has a right to know what our government has been hiding. Who are we to say what the people of the world should and shouldn't know. They need to know."
"Dana...." Jessica whispered. "We could wake up tomorrow and find a war going on. Do we really know how the people of the world will grasp this. Maybe we should protect it......."
Mulder stood up, dragging his sister behind him. "Jessica is right, Scully." he whispered. "We can't let anyone know the truth."
"I don't believe this!" Scully cried. "The only reason that you are saying this is because you found your fucking truth, Mulder! What about the other's who want to know the truth. We can't deny them of it." she felt the tears rising in her throat again. "If we let this go, we could wake up tomorrow and find that half of the world has joined the MOCALD."
Mulder looked down at his hands. He knew that deep down inside Scully was right. "Do it." he whispered. "The world needs to know before they die."
Jason and Samantha exchanged glances. "We have no idea what you're about to do, but I personally, don't like the sound of it." Jason glanced at his sister. "Jessica, this isn't another one of your little plots is it?"
Jessica laughed and gave Scully a slight shove forward. "You do it....., Dana. I don't want to be the one who sent our world to an early grave. We still don't know if this will help. The project will continue, the nation wide death will come."
"Gee, thanks guys." Scully said sarcastically and stepped forward. All it would take is just one click of the mouse and then the truth would be off. Did she have the nerve? Was Jessica right? Would the project truly continue? After a few minutes of debate she backed away.
"I can't." she looked to Mulder for support. "I keep thinking that I want to do it, but I'm so scared. I don't want the world to fall apart.......our names are under those documents. The world will know that we're the ones to expose the government." she shuttered. "I don't want to worry about this."
"You don't have too........we can just forget about all this. We can turn off the computer, close and lock the doors and leave. The offices will open in the morning, we can clean our stuff out and a find a place safe from how ever they plan to kill us."
Scully looked back to the screen. "Okay, let's forget it." she started to back away from the computer when she suddenly tripped over James Dumaine and went flying into the computer keyboard.
Jessica and Mulder both screamed, not because she had fallen, but because she had hit enter.
"The Files have been sent to the listed addresses at 12:45 A.M., January 1st, 2000." the computer said and the
Scully, suddenly realizing what she had done, began to cry. She had done it. Not intentionally of course, but she had been the one to send it and there was no denying it and there was no taking it back. She couldn't unsend them now.........the truth had been exposed.
Mulder jumped forward and pulled his partner into his arms. "It's over." he whispered. "Shh--, Scully, it's over."
"It's not even close to being over!" she cried. "Don't you get it? We're all going to die." she pulled away from him and motioned around the room. "These bodies that lay in our office aren't the end. They have more connections. The plague will come and we're all going to fucking die!" she slid down the wall and pulled her knees to her chest. "We're all going to die."
Jessica reached out and took Scully's hand. "We won't." she whispered, a small smile played at the corners of her lips. "In case you have forgotten, I do have connections with the president."
"Do you really think that we're going to die?" Samantha asked softly.
Mulder sighed. "I don't know, Sam. There's a lot that we shouldn't know, but I think we'll be protected......" he looked to Scully. "We can enter protection, can't we?"
Scully nodded. "Yeah, but what would that do? We can't run away from this. If they unleash a virus or something , it'll reach us no matter where we go."
"We better get out of here........." Jessica whispered. "I don't want to be here when the cops and everyone get here. Not that they won't know we did this or anything, after tomorrow's papers and headlines and......" she let her voice trail off. "This was self defense, right?"
Mulder laughed. "Don't ask me.......I was pretty dead during all this. Pardon the expression."
"It was self defense." Scully replied. "They were going to kill us........we had no choice. No choice at all." she grabbed her laptop off her disk and closed it up. "I don't know about you guys, but these bodies are starting to get to me. I'm going to go."
"Sam, Jess, Jason....." Mulder said. "You ready?"
They nodded and followed Scully out of the office, into the night.
Part twenty-nine "A New Government"
By Jenn Nistor (Jenn6092@aol.com)

3:21 A.M.
Scully's Apartment
"In a few hours the papers will be sent out all over the world and the truth will be exposed. Unfortunately I fear my fate. I imagine that our world will never be the same from this moment on. So many secrets will be exposed and so many people's lives will be ruined forever. As for Jessica, I have found that she is truly special. Although I have not been able to figure out how she uses her palms to heal the dying, I no longer question it. For it is the truth and I now know the truth." Scully studied what she had written.
"Now to a more personal note......" she typed. "When I saw Mulder lying on the floor, bleeding and dying, I found that I wanted to die with him. He's so much a part of my life. That night he came here, telling me how he felt, I about died. I let it go as far as I could with out guilt and then like I usually do, I closed myself off. Possibly forever after what I saw in Mulder's eyes tonight. He and Jessica seem so right together......that is why I plan to leave in the morning. Deep down inside I keep telling myself that I'm leaving because of what may happen with the truth, but honestly I'm leaving because I fear what may happen with Mulder and I."
Scully sighed and turned away from the screen. She glanced over at her wall to see her three suit cases neatly stacked up against it. 'To bad it's over.' she thought miserably and started to get up when there was a knock at her door.
Picking up her gun off the coffee table, she quietly walked over to the door. "Who is it?" she called.
"Scully, it's me!" Mulder replied.
She let out a sigh of relief and quickly opened the door. "I thought that you were one of them." she confessed once he was inside her apartment.. "It's late, what are you doing here?"
"Do you think I can actually sleep?" he asked. "I mean, Scully, we are about to go down in the history books and I'm too......" his voice trailed off as he noticed her suitcases. "Going somewhere, Scully?"
Sighing, Scully plopped down on the sofa. "I--, I can't stay here. I'm just not in the mood to."
"Scully, wasn't it you who told us not to run away from this? Or was that another red-haired, blue eyed, five foot three, FBI agent?"
"Mulder, I'm not running away from the consequences of my actions or what may happen......." she sighed. "It's a lot more complicated than that. I'm just not sure that I belong here anymore."
"What do you mean?" he asked softly. He wanted so much to reach out to her and hold her, but his instincts told him that it wasn't the right time yet. "Is it me? Did I do something to hurt you? You don't have to leave because of me."
"I don't have anyone here........I mean in a couple of hours the world will know everything that they have ever wanted to know about our government, but what about me? Everything that I have ever believed in was just proven to be false." she let out a sigh of exasperation. "It's all gone! What is there left for me to believe in now that I know our whole society was based on a pack of lies."
"You can believe that out world will gain something from this experience." Mulder suggested. He took her hand. "You can believe in me or in us."
Scully shook her head and buried her face in her hands. "The only thing that our world could possibly gain from all this would be war. A war that no one can stop because no one will know who to trust." she paused. "It's better that they colonize. I'm sure that we could then die in peace."
"Your right. . . . . ." Mulder knelt down in front of her so that he was eye to eye with her. "But leaving wont help anything, Dana. We have to show the people of this world that they do have someone to trust. This is just the start of a new way of governing. The Democratic society and the Republic society no longer exist." he reached out and gently tilted her chin up so that she was looking into his eyes. "Over the years our world has experienced hundreds of different governments . . . it's just time to start a new one."
Looking into Mulders eyes, she saw the truth. Running wouldn't solve anything.......they would just end up being caught deeper and deeper in the barricades of a new way of law. As long as they had each other they would be safe.
"I guess that we good guys have to stick together." she said softly. "Now that the truth has been revealed we'll probably be out of a job for the timing being and who knows how much longer we'll be alive."
Mulder nodded. "I guess so." he agreed and gently brushed his lips over hers. "And since no one is out there to threaten us for getting involved, what do you say? Are you ready to make this work?"
Scully grinned. "Won't Jessica be disappointed, Mulder?" she asked sweetly.
He laughed. "Not half as disappointed as I'm going to be if you don't kiss me."
"I........" Scully was cut off by the phone.
"Hello." she mumbled into the receiver. "This better be important."
"Dana." Jessica said hurriedly. "Thomas has organized a press conference for tomorrow afternoon. He want's you, me and Mulder to be there to answer questions. He's going to announce what our future government holds for the world."
Scully groaned. "Do you know how many people have gotten the manifest yet?"
"Read the morning paper." Jessica replied and hung up.
Scully turned back to Mulder and frowned. "President Gearing wants us to be at a press conference he organized for tomorrow. I'm afraid that we're about to be exposed as the contributors of this information."
"Dana I don't want to leave you. We can run away and be together until the end. It doesn't have to end now, why should we sacrifice our love for *them*? We can make it all work."
"No, Mulder. We have to stop the project, we owe to the citizens of the world and to ourselves. We can do it." she stood up. "And besides, it was just you that told me not to run. Let's not let them panic us into doing it."

January 1, 2000
Presidential Conference Room
White House, Washington DC
10:31 A.M.
Scully sat silently in the folding chair behind the podium. Thomas had moved the conference up do to the riots going on. It hadn't been more than a couple of hours since Scully had opened her door to see a stack of papers and a million members of the press camped out in her hallway and in front of her apartment building.
The 'Washington Post' had a picture of John F. Kennedy on the front page, with the head lines reading: "GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY COMES TO A TRAGIC END" and "SECRETARY OF DEFENSE AND VICE PRESIDENT ACCUSED OF MURDER"
The 'USA Today' didn't have any news about anything else except sections from the manifest, along with dozens of pictures. Their main head line read: "WE ARE NOT ALONE, *THEY* ARE ALL WATCHING". Other headlines that followed were, "CONSPIRACY UNLEASHED", "THE MOCALD, MEN OF CONSPIRACY" and "JFK, IS HE?"
The 'Chicago Tribune' held a picture of the Pentagon on the front page, with the headline: "NO ONE TO TRUST, THE LIES OUR GOVERNMENT HAS TOLD US". There were hundreds of excerpts from the manifest and there was a list of names of those who had been involved.
The 'New York Times' had a picture of a alien Autopsy on it's front page, with a headlines reading: "WE ARE NOT ALONE, SECRETS REVEALED" and "AGENTS UNCOVER TRUTH ABOUT ASSASSINATION OF JFK"
It seemed that every TV station held nothing but coverage on the truth. Scully was amazed at how fast the story had spread. With just one click of a key, the world had known the truth. Only they hadn't known their fate. Nothing was said about the colonization and there was no warning.
"Are you read for this?" Thomas asked, leaning over to speak with her.
Scully nodded and stood up. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be."
Thomas smiled and gave her a quick hug. "Wait until you hear my plan for the future." he whispered. "I should get some interesting reactions."
Taking her place at the podium, Scully adjusted the microphone and waited for the blinding lights and voices to die down. "Early this morning......" she began. "A manifest containing elaborate information on government cover-ups, conspiracy and information dealing with a top secret, unauthorized, government organization was released to the press. At this time, only small portions of this manifest's contents have been released to the public, so I am sad to say that many out there will have no clue as to what we are about to talk about, but please.........you will all here the truth." she paused looking to Mulder for support.
He gave her a soft smile, encouraging her to continue.
"The first point of business is the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Do to our recent knowledge, we were able to uncover the truth about what truly happened. Mr. President......" she stepped aside so that he could get by.
There was a roar of voices through the audience as the president took his place at the podium. "My fellow Americans." he began. "The thirty-eight year old mystery surrounding the tragic assassination of President Kennedy has finally been solved. I will read you a section of the MOCALD manifest...." he opened the thick book to the page he had highlighted.
"November 22, 1963." he read. "Today marks the day that our group finally eliminated the greatest threat of all. Mr. Kennedy threatened the groups existence and our motto states that we, as a group, have the power to eliminate all threats." he skipped down a couple of paragraphs until he found the passage of how it was done. "To any American we looked like normal Secret Service agents, but if they had only known. It was all planned so carefully. The decoys were set up, the assassins were placed carefully out of view and we watched......"
There was a roar of voices through the crowded press room and Thomas held up his hands. "Please, all questions will be answered. One at a time please." he pointed to a reporter in the front.
"Has an official list of the MOCALD's members been sent out yet." the woman asked. "The only information we have received is on the members killed last night in the J. Edgar Hoover Building, but no names were released."
Thomas motioned for Jessica to take his place. "I have the list right here." Jessica replied, moving past the president. "For starters......" she placed the paper on the podium. "The men killed last night were the MOCALD main men. Agent Scully, Agent Mulder and myself took it upon ourselves to approach these men and ask for a reasonable solution, but when one was not achieved they became forceful and blood was shed."
She took a deep breath and looked down at the paper. "Unfortunately, these men are men we all have trusted and put our faith in. The head of this organization was X-director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, John Neller the II. Supervisor of the MOCALD was Roland Frederick; Head Power under Defense Agency, OMMEGA. The Head Source Informant was James Dumaine, who was head power over one of our nations Independent Agencies." she paused. "These three men were killed last night---James by the hand Agent Scully and Roland by the hand of John Neller. I sh---ot John Neller."
"Is it true that ten men were killed last night?" another report asked.
Jessica nodded. "Yes, many of the groups circle men and brothers were killed, but by each other's hands. Adrian Portellii, head of the NSA, was shot execution style by one of his own. Ned Roberts, Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was also one of the men killed."
"Could you read the list of men?" another reporter cried.
"I will have them distributed before the end of this conference." Jessica replied and moved away from the podium.
Mulder leaned over to Scully. "Do you think the subject of colonization will be brought up?"
She shrugged, not taking her attention off Jessica or the President. "Probably not. We still have a chance to stop them."
"Maybe." Mulder turned away and leaned back. He knew that they would be calling him up to speak shortly.
"Mr. President!" someone called. "Is it true that men of your cabinet are amongst these men?"
Thomas retook his place at the podium. "Yes, early this morning Vice President, Treeles Carter; and Secretary of Defense, Carl Levinston were taken into custody for their illegal acts. The remaining MOCALD men were also taken into custody and as far as I know the men from the other countries have also been charged."
"Are the reports of Extraterrestrial life true or false?"
Mulder jumped up from his seat and stood beside the president. "I'm Agent Fox Mulder with the X-Files division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The reports on the existence of extraterrestrial life have been proven to be true."
Jessica sat silently listening to the reporters fire questions at Mulder and Thomas. She couldn't believe how calmly everyone was taking this. There was so much still to be explained and yet so much to be determined. Taking her chances, she stood up and exited the room. As she made her way to the street she could feel that bubbling sensation in her blood again. There was something odd about the way it felt.....it was almost like acid burning a whole through iron.
As she approached the street, she paused on the curb, afraid of what the world held. I have to know the truth.' she thought and disappeared with in the crowds of people.

"There is no longer one master race in our known galaxy and beyond. There are many races, some far more advanced than our own and many far more advanced than the other's we know of. Our mission is to make one perfect master race and to eliminate all others. The project will not be set for another three to four decades, but by the millennium we pray that it will be set......." -Allen Green (From MOCALD Manifest: July 28, 1948)

Nothing had stopped them, nothing would stop them. The unmarked Military trucks pulled into the large field and parked just outside the compound. A woman in a dark suit stepped out from the first truck and waved to a man who stood just before the gate. Then she turned and motioned for the men in the truck to start unloading the *merchandise*.
Obeying their orders, the men began to take the locks off the backs of the trucks and opened the doors. They pulled out vials and flasks, packages and boxes marked 'Hazardous'. As the y moved to the final seven trucks they began to unload the carriers and hosts.
"Bring them in!" the woman yelled and moved around the truck to meet the man whom had been awaiting her arrival.
"Do you know what your doing?" the man asked nervously. "The world knows of our existence, our time has been shortened. This is extremely risky."
The woman nodded. "I am very aware of what has happened. She may have stopped *them*, but she won't stop me."
"Are you sure? She has most of the government on her side. What's to stop her?"
The woman grinned. "Every person has a counterpart contradicting their own ways.....I consider myself lucky for being related to mine. She won't stop me, we're family, we're of the same blood."
The man shrugged. "Be careful Carrie, she killed your grandfather, what's to stop her from killing you?"
"She won't kill me. The project must continue...... Our new race begins here. Today marks a new millennium. It is time that our two races merge as one. There will no longer be many races, our worlds are now together and in this togetherness will merge one perfect master race."
"When do we release the elimination?"
"Soon...." Carrie replied and with that she entered the compound.

From the Diaries of Dana Scully

'Although Jessica's recent disappearance has been ignored by the media, I have come to believe that she will return. Given her past history and her current status, it is believed that she too has met the terrible fate her family has. Mulder and I do not believe this however, we believe that she is out there, waiting for us to discover her final secret. The secret that may explain why she has the power to heal, and I am almost positive that when armed with this secret our world will be saved from it's fate'
