Johan George Winter (?-1805)

Pieter Jurjens Winter (1764-1840)

Pieter Jurjens Winter born 1764; died 1840; married Aije Egberts Frik (1755-1833) in 1796.

Jurrien Pieter Winter (1796-1861)

Jurrien Pieter Winter was born in Ulrum, Groningen Province, Netherlands in 1796. He married Reinje Aries Van Weerden in 1821 in the Netherlands. They emigrated from Rotterdam to New York on the ship Emblem for economic improvement. They arrived 24 Auguest 1848, several months after their son.

Jurrien was a blacksmith.

Their children, Anje Jurjens, Pieter Jurriens, Eye, Maarten, Eike, Egbert, and Geert, were all born in the Netherlands.

Jurrien and Reinje are buried in the Het Kerkof Van Holland Section of Pilgrim Home Cemetery. The site in Block PK is still marked with a tall, skinny memorial stone.

Pieter Jurriens Winter (1824-1911)

Pieter came to America aboard the ship Katharine Jackson. They left home on 6 March 1848 on the sailship Zoutkamp going to Amsterdam and to Hellevoetaluis where they waited a day or so. Two or three died at sea. After 41 days at sea they got to New York and took a steamboat to Albany, a canalboat to Buffalo and a steamboat to Chicago - thence a sailboat to Holland and to the Colony by flatboat."

Following his father's profession, Pieter was a blacksmith's helper when he immigrated. In the 1880 Federal Census he was listed as a blacksmith, in 1900 as a retired engineer.
