OUR LADY OF LA SALETTE
On Saturday September 19, 1846 Our Lady appeared weeping to two small children in the tiny mountain village of La Salette, France. She said to them, "My Children no longer attend Holy Mass, the men who drive the carts take the name of my Son in Vain." Is she speaking to you and I today? SAINT PHILIP NERI The Second Apostle of Rome
St. Philip was born on July 22, at 2:00 A.M., the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene. He was the second son of Ser Francesco di Filippo of Castelfranco, a citizen of Florence. His mother's name was Lucrezia. She died when our Saint was just five years old, shortly after giving birth to his brother, Antonio, in 1520. At the age of 29, as Pentecost was approaching, St. Philip, who always had a devotion to the Holy Spirit, was praying in earnest for his gifts and graces, when he saw a globe of fire that entered his mouth and sank down into his heart. At the same time he was pervaded by a fire of love which seemed to be a positive physical heat, he threw himself on the ground to cool down the heat. When he got up, he was seized with violent trembling, accomopanied with great joy, putting his hand over his heart, feeling the swelling, like a man's fist. St Philip was Ordained a Priest in 1551 and founded the Oratory in 1564. Our Saint died in 1595, sitting up in his bed with his hand extended, giving a final blessing to the kneeling priests in his room. His body still remains incorrupt.
