Lesson 115 Matrimony

Lesson 116 St. Ignatius of Antioch

Lesson 117 Annulments

ARE YOU BEING CALLED TO SERVE GOD?

How do we know when God calls us to serve? Does He come down from Heaven and say, "You there! I Am the Lord your God, You will serve Me?" Or does He send His angels to us and make it known that He wants us? No. It would be much easier if He did, but that is not how He works.

We are all called to serve Him, but in what ways? As with all things concerning our spiritual life, Prayer is paramount. We must have the communication lines open to God at all times. Without Prayer, discernment would not be possible. We must be absolutely sure it is God's Will we are doing and not our own. It is so easy to be our own person, or our own priest. Keep the Prayer life going and be God's servant. Most of us are called to the Sacramental life of Matrimony. We get married, work hard, have children and raise a family. We give our children love and affection and do our best to teach them our Faith.
This is admirable in the eyes of God. Matrimony is a vocation many of us choose. We laics have the opportunity of doing a little more by Joining a lay religious 3rd Order. You can find out more about Third Orders from the links below:

The Priesthood

A Priest is a Mediator, a Go-Btween, whose work is to unite God and Man.

[pr]

[pr2]

Christ is THE ONE priest in whom the fullness of the priesthood is found. All other priests share in the priesthood of Christ, as a mirror shares in the light of the sun. But just as a mirror really sheds light, so does the Ordained priest really show forth the priesthood which he has from Christ through the priestly character.

The chief supernatural powers of the priest are: to change bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Divinity, and Soul of Jesus Christ in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and to absolve sins in the Sacrament of Penance.

[pr3]

In the graphics above and below we see the priest exercising his office of reconciliation by applying to the people the power of the Cross of Christ to unite man to God in love.

Holy Matrimony

[mat1]

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and delivered Himself up for her." -Ephesians 5:25

The primary duties of husband and wife in the married state are to be faithful to each other, and to provide in every way for the welfare of the children God may give them.

[mat2]

The duties are to God, each other, and their children. Help to fulfill these duties comes from God, then each other, and finally from the children.

The bond of the Sacrament of Matrimony lasts until the death of husband or wife because Christ has said, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder."

[mat3]

DIVORCE IS FORBIDDEN BY GOD

Furthermore, it is useless, since if a couple gets a divorce in a court, God refuses to remove the marriage bond. They might walk out of the court and think they are no longer married and can each go to look for a new partner. But God keeps the marriage bond on them, and if either of them attempts a new marriage, it will not be a real marriage, but the sin of adultery. The first marriage lasts, even though they no longer live together; unless of course, there are grounds for an annulment, then the Church can give a dispensation.

KCC Poll
If you could be a Priest, Nun, or join a Religious 3rd order, could you make a difference in the Church?

You can share in our ministry by signing our Guestbooks. Many fallen away Catholics look through the Guestbooks to see what others have to say. Help bring them home, take 2 minutes and sign the book, you could be the one Jesus uses to touch one's heart and bring them back to HIM in the Holy Eucharist. Padre Pio said he would pray earnestly in Heaven for all his sons to come home.
