| Welcome to my web page! My real name is Kathy Chwedyk, and I write Regency Romances as Kate Huntington. I also write science fiction, fantasy, and horror short stories under my own name and I wrote a contemporary romance a few years ago as Kate Ivers. I was fortunate enough to realize my lifelong dream in 1998 -- that's when I could finally afford to quit my day job to write fiction full time. What I'm Working On Now: I have just finished writing The General's Daughter, which will be published in May, 2004, and this morning I began writing the next novel of my current contract with Kensington Books, A Hero's Welcome, which is due early in 2004. Page proofs for "My Wicked Valentine," the novella I wrote for the Zebra Regency anthology, A Valentine Waltz, should be on my doorstep any day now. Lest you think this author's life is all work and no play -- I have been camping in beautiful Northwoods Wisconsin twice this summer, and I've enjoyed visiting with all my romance reading buddies in and around the Pine Drive Resort on Lake Holcomb. (Hi, guys!) I also enjoyed a visit to my hometown of Huntington, Indiana, for my niece, Laura Hohe's, graduation party. I also enjoyed attending Innovations at beautiful Drury Lane Theater in Oakbrook for the first time as a new Weight Watchers leader. This fall promises to be just as busy and enjoyable. Bob, my husband, and I will leave for Galena, Illinois, a beautiful historical town, to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary at the end of September, and from October 3 to 5, I will be at Autumn Author's Affair at the Hickory Ridge Conference Center in Lisle, Illinois, where I will give a program on creating the vampire hero with my friend and fellow writer, Scarlett Dean, and rooming with another writer friend, Jackie Schauer. Many thanks, as always, to organizers Virginia DeWeese, editor of Rendezvous, and Nancy McCann, owner of Exchange-A-Book, for inviting me to participate in the conference. I can't wait to see you! |

| "The Awakening," His Immortal Embrace anthology, pub. September 2003 My vampire historical romance novella, "The Awakening," is quite a departure for me. It's set during the Regency, like the rest of my Kate Huntington books, but the hero is a vampire and no gentleman. My heroine, Thalia Layton meets the Big Bad when she rushes to Yorkshire on a rainy night to be with her ailing aunt. He's galloping across the moors on his horse, greatcoat tails flying, looking for a little midnight snack, and causes her carriage to overturn. I like to think of Adrian Lucerne as a cross between Spike and Angel of Buffy, Vampire Slayer fame. Writing this story was a blast. I was flattered to be included in this lurid and sexy trade paperback anthology, entitled His Immortal Embrace, along with such celebrated authors as Hannah Howell, Lynsay Sands and Sara Blayne. So, "The Awakening" could be my big break -- or it could so appall my loyal Regency readers that they vow never to read a Kate Huntington novel again. Could go either way. Recommended Reads: Walking This World by Julie Cameron. This is the sequel to the bestselling The Artist's Way, and should be required reading for every creative person, in my opinion, along with the author's The Right to Write. The Queenmaker by India Edghill. I ran across this exquisite book about Michel, the first wife of King David, in Barbara's Bookstore in Oak Park a few months ago, and just adored it. This is a new twist on a familiar Biblical story that was published several years ago, and I don't know how I missed this gem the first time around. The Knight and the Rose by Isolde Martyn, a wonderful and meticulously researched Medieval historical romance. Official Escort by Jean Barrett, one of this talented author's "love on the run" books from Harlequin Intrigue. Letters To Kelly by Suzanne Brockmann, a sweet romance from Silhouette Moments that I just couldn't put down. The Forbidden Bride by Cheryl Reavis, another unusual historical gem from a supremely gifted author. Sleep Tight by Anne Fraser, a chillingly satisfying thriller that will keep you sleepless until you've read the whole thing. |
