Quatre Gain Cell GC250C Power Amp, Only $299

Here is a amp that achieved near cult status in the mid-late seventies. The Quartre Gain Cell is a no-nonsense 125 watt per channel poweramp with plenty of reserves. You can read the quote from the Audio Critic article where this amp was once in contention for the best sounding amp, period. Seem's I recall many felt this amp created a great synergy with Dahlquist DQ-10's but I'd have to check my literature to be sure. The build quaility is fantastic, I counted four large filter capacitors and a large power transformer (see image) that will provide plenty of headroom during heavy power needs. The extra thick front aluminum panel has a brushed finish. The unit is heavy at almost 39lbs net weight.

This unit has been tested and cleaned inside and out. It works and sounds great. It has a fuller, smoother, sound quality than most other solid state amps. It has decent cosmetics as show in the actual images. There are a few scratches on the front panel that I touched up with matching satin black paint. Some say this amp is prone to blowing up but this one has survived 30 years so I have a feeling the Quartre amps with problems were earlier versions or were asked to drive some unusually complex signal.

From a Stereophile article:
"In early 1978, The Audio Critic declared the Bryston 4B NRB amplifier "the best power amplifier we've been able to find so far" (Vol.1 No.4, p.41), The other amps in that magazine's "search for the perfect audio amplifier"—the Futterman H-33aa, the db systems db-6, the 25Wpc Electrocompaniet, the Quatre DG-250, the RAM 512, and the Threshold 800A—have not been in production for over 15 years."

This Quatre Gain Cell listed for $575 from 1978-82. I can offer for only $299 plus shipping (45 lbs gross).
