Music Art on the Piano

"Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life. Although the spirit be not master of that which it creates through music, yet it is blessed in this creation, which like every creation of art, is mightier than the artist." Beethoven

"It is better to become noble than to be born noble." Liszt

The Mission of a Piano Teacher

Every student is a unique individual with the capacity for musical expression. My goal is to guide the student to develop this capacity to its potential.

We focus on developing the practical skills necessary to play the piano. These skills include ear training, technical training, and training in notation, keyboard harmony and sight reading.

Time and patience are necessary in order to grow musically and play well. Students, teachers, and family together can nurture and enrich this process.

1997 is the bicentenary of Franz Schubert's birth. He was born January 31, 1797 in Austria. Schubert lived for music. He was well acquainted with the music of Beethoven. The Piano Parlor has his biography. If you go to The Schubert Institute (UK) , you can find out how his music will be celebrated around the world this year. Schubert wrote some very beautiful music that everyone can appreciate.

Piano Study Enrichment

Once a month students can participate in a Piano Party. These events give each student an opportunity to play for a student audience. The atmosphere is casual and includes disussion about music and performance. Refreshments are served.

Also, once a month students can attend a Theory Games class. Games are a fun way to learn more about the elements of the music being studied.
